From 1996 to 2001 I owned a Mazda RX-4 coupe. It was the best car I've ever owned. It had a mild port 13B, only around 190hp, but it was so much fun and threw flames like the Devil at a Christians dodgeball game, lighting up the scenery in my mirrors on a night hills run. I too have suffered from the inevitable apex seal failure. One seal BANG! tearing the other 2 to pieces and the one surviving rotor carrying the other one home like a gallant infantryman with his rescued brother from the battle. Many late nights were spent stripping it down, cutting rust, repainting, repairing, replacing, searching for rare parts, swearing at seized bolts. But nothing has ever brought such a smile to my face. A framed collage of its glory hangs upon my wall. I still dream about it to this day..... PS. Alex, I want that rotor.

One of my RX8s had a weird problem. It was brand new. And after about 30 minutes or more on the highway, the differential would lock up, and when I'd get off the highway and take corners, it would bind up a lot for a while. Eventually it would go away. The dealership was never able to see the problem because they never test drove it long enough to have it happen. A quick 10 minute drive won't do it. But in the end, it was a lease so I stopped worrying about it. Don't remember if it was a 2004 or 2007.

Luckily I sold it to a friend who has kept it going. Over 100k on the original 2004 engine now... why? Because of tips like premixing two stroke, using 10W40 and keeping the ignition system healthy. Mine also had a conversion to run the oil metering pump from a separate two stroke reservoir. The guys at Rotary Revs know their shit (I even fitted their D585 ignition coils to mine), so look no forward to seeing this rebuilt.

@@nakoma5 13B lasts longer for whatever the reason... It's an older engine while the Renesis is newer so the latter ones should hold better but then again it keeps self-destructing while the 13B's doesn't... Which is odd. If you want a rotary, get anything before the Renesis series of cars. Get a FD or FC RX-7 if you want. Those rotary lasts longer. They still need care but at least it doesn't break your heart and wallet more than the RX-8 does.
@rucarnuts135 жыл бұрын
Jun Kitami - Don’t do an FD, nor any turbo FC either as an entry to rotaries. The Renesis may not last long at all, but turbo rotaries are not far off. 130K miles is around their limit before they need a rebuild, no matter how well you care for it - at least in my experience. Go for an SA, FB or a naturally aspirated FC. They may be slower, but they’re alot less prone to mechanical cantankerousness and are a good introduction to rotaries.

I am a 71 year old rotary owner. I have a 1984 RX 7 with a 12 A and I race it here in California. Old guys and old Mazda RX 7 rock. I have been learning how to race these and the trick to make them stay together. I run my car at a track called Thunderhill a 3 mile to 5 mile road course. Looks like you videos are very cool and I am glad I found them. My car : 12 A with a bridgeport (template from Pineapple racing) I built stainless exhaust from engine to tip including mufflers. I have an aluminum flywheel and modified the oiling system (Ideals at 70 PSI now) three engines to figure that out. I use to build Sprint cars that run Chevy V8 and oil pressures from 40 to high RPMs at 60 are Ok. I took 600 grams out of each rotor and are within two grams of each other. I run a 48mm Weber IDA. Just got the engine done and was going to run it this season but living close to Yosemite in the mountains missed most of the races because of being snowed in.One race left but I have to be out of State so I will miss that one too. Hope to get the car on the track next year to see how it runs. When it comes to racing this is my life story. Never the money and if I do get it going no time. So good luck on your car and I am looking foreword to more videos.

Subscribed! Loved the High Mileage series but this one hits close to home! Had an '05 RX-8 daily driver that was in the shop constantly near the end of it's life. Poor broke mid-20s me couldn't afford winter tires or a second car so I drove it through heavy Canadian winters with summer tires. Suffered from every single thing that could go wrong with the car. Clogged cat, fish bowl tail lights, seized rear calipers, failed secondary air valve, and finally... low compression. Sold it for pennies to some kid who wanted to turn it into something that belonged in the Fast and the Furious movies. Terribly unreliable vehicle, but it has a special place in my heart even after all these years. If I get that rotor, it would sit proudly in my garage as a reminder of good times!

I am really starting to like this new series. The old ones with Phil, Miles and Colin were good but this one with Felix is really entertaining to watch especially that it has a rotary and it is a Car that I actually considered buying used. After some research and test drives, I ended up with a GT86, which is similar on paper but a whole different experience. Still going strong after 5 years of owning it and still enjoying like on the first day. Yes!
