Very clear, and I like the excellent visual aid in this video :-) One thing that annoys me is when people refer to "switching to dual rates" when what they mean is "switching to a lower (or just possibly a higher) rate.

You're talking about%. In my manual it says e.g. "Elevator" High Rate up 10mm, High Rate down 10mm. Should I measure the movement of e.g. "Elevator" from neutral and adjust% to the measurements fit?

Why is there only dual rates and not like triple or quadra rates?More advanced rc transmitters have more than dual rates?Maybe i find 80% also very aggresive and i want to set it to 60% or 68% .Can i achieve this with any other setting like epa throttle?

This video in combination with ur other video on exponential is very good one. I m new to RC hobby and just finished building my first F450 quadcopter.....learning how to fly, just focussing on hovering...currently expo=0 in my TX (flysky fs-t6 mode1) ... I believe if i enable expo then it will give me more control on hovering as i cannot control my quad 2-3 ft above the ground...i m more comfortable when quad is above 10 ft...so, enabling expo will give me better control over my sticks when my quad is just 2-3 ft above the ground ...is my understanding correct?

How can I correct one aileron throws more than the other on spektrum receiver channels 2 and channel 6?
@Painless360 Жыл бұрын
I would use the travel/throws in the radio as a last resort. Use the adjustment in the physical linkages from the servo to the wing to get them both the same. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2TNk4mZgKaHpMU

Hi again... Quick question about DR and Expo for Quads... I have flown planes for many years... Just got into quads this season. Is it better to setup expo and rates in the transmitter or the Mission Planner software? I don't see a place to get a switch working from Mission Planner to switch between rates, but probably has something to do with the CHX_OPT... I know some of the radio setting can confuse the Flight Controller. I am currently running a Pixhawk... But the question would be the same for Cleanflight or other FC software.Thanks Steve
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
The general rule for expo is to set it on the flight controller as it provides a much smoother result. I use both as I also like the option of changing it easily on the radio too.. In the latest series we are doing (iNav) the advice is remove all D/R and Expo from the Tx and let the flight controller handle it all..

nice clear video but im still a bit confused..... so lowering your rates is like reducing the resolution of the tx controls.... im trying to fly my first multirotor on a kk2 board and I read somewhere its best to send the best resolution from the tx to the kk2 but this makes my tricopter hard to control. do I need to make the adjustments on the kk2??
@Painless3609 жыл бұрын
The endpoints do not affect resolution, just the total travel on the channel. Typically a channel will move from 1000 to 2000 microseconds (1 to 2 milliseconds) with the midpoint being 1500 microseconds (1.5 milliseconds). Dual rates just limit how far the channel goes towards the 1000 and 2000 values. Stick scaling on the KK2.0 is about how aggressively the KK2 responds to the stick input. The lower the 'stick scaling' setting on the KK, the easier it is to fly but harder it is to do flips and rolls. Hope this helps. Happy flying!

I'm an experienced flyer myself but I never bloody understood all the jargon like dual rates or exponential either. Even now as I head back into the hobby I heard unboxings and setups of a new plane and the waffle of these terms never being explained, so thank you very much. Excellent video. The yanks just waffle on soooooo much, it's great to watch someone get right to the point!! Hope you are still flying.

So the low rates is equivalent to rc rate in clean flight? And high rates is equivalent to rate?

Great video....finally someone who made a video explaining what D/R and Expo means ..... I have the DX6 Tx ...is it alright if I set up my duel rates and expo settings on my 3 position switch "G" instead of a 2 position switch?.... 1st position 70-30 % , 2nd position 100-30% , 3rd position 100-0%.....I am flying a helicopter .....( Blade 200 S ) what do you think.....thanks....Gary

I have been watching your CC3D series and that was all I needed to build my first racer 250 quad. Brilliant series! A question relating to this video. How does this works with CC3D? I have dual rate setup in my transmitter (radiolink at9). What is the relationship between dual rate in transmitter and the input scale bar you see inside librepilot RC input tab? I am a bit confuse. If you move the stick of the transmitter to the furthest point the RC input scale reading will go to the max independent of the dual rate setup in the transmitter . Many thanks in advance.
@Painless3608 жыл бұрын
+Jack Truong I would never used dual rates on a flight controller, this is more for fixed wing models. Once the flight controller is calibrated to your radio you should only have to alter the expo.
@JT-jy2sy8 жыл бұрын
+Painless360 very good point. Many thanks.

On a plane-what would be a good place for a beginner to start with dual rates? I have the dx6 transmitter. I am a beginner. Only 4 or 5 flights on my sportsman s trainer that practically flys itself. I built a Flite Test Trainer...that I would like to set up with dual rates. Thanks Jim
@Painless3606 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the model. Most models have a range of movement in the manual for the control surfaces so I would normally set the high rates for the throw in the manual and set low rates for about 60-70% of that movement. Also worth adding some extra expo to the lower rates too to help with fine control.. Happy flying!
@Jimgoodwin8466 жыл бұрын
Ahhh, I’ll bet that’s what the high/low gauge is for...thanks
@nutleighgrove36582 жыл бұрын
Another excellent video - thanks! I’m a bit confused with my Align T-Rex 450 heli: As I change the the rates, for example, on the tail (blade pitch/rudder), the throw distance remains the same but the servo response is much quicker or slower. This kinda makes sense as it’s the “rate” of change. So could you tell me why your video refers to the ‘distance’ of travel? 👍🏻🚁
@Painless3602 жыл бұрын
Have you got any flight stabiliser or gyro on the tail?
@nutleighgrove36582 жыл бұрын
@@Painless360 Yes 👍🏻 It comes with the standard “Align MiniGRS Flybarless System”. It’s nicely stabilised. On the bench, I can flick ‘throttle hold’ to see the tail blades change pitch left/right. It confirms what I experience in flight. The servo mounted on the body has a long rod to the tail. This alters the angle of the tail blades while they spin the same direction & speed. Sorry if you already know this 🤩. So basically the same as the rudder on a fixed wing plane. My point is that playing around with rates, I can see at say 10%, the servo takes a couple of seconds. Where as at 100%, it happens in a split second. In each case, the distance of travel (or throw) is identical 🤔
@Painless3602 жыл бұрын
Then it sounds like the way that the flybarless unit is affecting how that all works. I've not used that one here. Best of luck
@nutleighgrove36582 жыл бұрын
@@Painless360 Thank you, it is a bit odd! “Rates” meaning speed of change does make sense if you think about it. Can you confirm it refers to the distance/throw of the servo, not the speed at which the servo moves? 👍🏻
