(This comment is from more of a advanced users perspective) Thanks for taking this on but I will add that this is not a "problem" per say this is simply the nature of a universal joint In RCs and 1:1's, dog bones, CVA's and universal all do this. The wheel will not stop its just slowing down and speeding up as it rotates. What I see very often is someone new to the hobby flips their truck on its roof to test this and the chatter is extreme which freaks them out, but flipping back onto its wheels lessons this chatter greatly as the wheel has weight on it, when upside down theres no force on it so it wobbles all over the place. These folks also typically test this at full speed which isn't typical of how a crawler is driven. I see these questions asked in the forums almost monthly and the answer is pretty consistent: 'this is normal and you can limit throw if it bothers you'. Limit my steering (on a crawler).... no thanks! I'll continue to use all of the throw I can. I'll say its probably best to avoid using full throttle at full (steering) lock. I'm not saying there arent limits as too much throw in the steering can break U joints. This video really helps visualize whats going on kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5XOZHWMebt7p5Y

Good video. Dog bone axles snap . Axial uses dog bone axles in their lower cost trucks. They clunk and tick slightly before the break. Universals are nice, smooth and more throw and long lasting performance.

Gregg, great video - I appreciate the return to "how to fix" initiative - in my mind THAT is the RC hobby. If interested, I would like to see a video on how to eliminate speed wobble. In my case, I built a monster Slash and when I run it on 3S, I can see the steering wobble left and right and it has actually caused a couple of wrecks that required repair. I cannot find the slop in the steering - the linkage is all tight and I have a Savox servo, individually everything is perfect but when put together there is some looseness. I am thinking that maybe a bit of time spent aligning all the links such as the camber links and steering links may appeal to a larger audience. Thanks, and I hope to see it on the channel!

One other thing worth noting about using the closer vs farther hole on the servo horn, closer provides more leverage and torque and the farther hole offers less. I'll only use the farther hole when required to get the throw I want.

Thanks for that explanation. You did not mention one other advantage to moving your linkage to inside hole on your servo horn. You did say that it will reduce your servo throw but it will also increase your steering torque too. This could be a very good thing on a rock crawler where servo torque is very important. Thoughts?

Hey Greg. I have the grey SCX JL you made me buy in your review, which I love. It turns real hard to the right. The Spectrum radio you showed will set the servo end points. Glad I got that instead of the Bronco, and I'm a Ford guy.

Came across this while trying to diagnose another steering issue. Been years since I ran RC. A crawler always appealed to me. Grabbed a roc hobby katana today and enjoying having a play. Got some weight on the underside to balance it up better and made a huge difference to performance. Anyway. My issue. Steering right is stays pretty flat. Rear right drops ever so slightly. But steer hard left and the front and rear left hunker down a lot. Any ideas?

I have this issue with my trx4 sport and both of my defenders. I followed the traxxas guide out to do this.. I can get one side to be corrected, but I can't get the otherwise corrected. I was told to just change the receiver and transmitter and put a better one in..

Yah we always want go for that last hole on the servo horn huh to the most out of our steering. Maybe we can call the the closer hole the humble link for a more refined steer. The underbelly of your truck sales that all-in-one fusion Bro it’s looking good in there.

I have a question about after market steering servo horns: I want to replace the servo horn on my Traxxas Hoss 4x4 with a metal one. The problem is that the new after market one doesn't have threaded holes and the Traxxas bolt is a smaller diameter than the hole. Is there a sleeve or something similar to take up the slack? Thanks, Nigel

But I even seen guys grind stuff off just to maximize the throw, I thought with crawlers the better turning angles the more capable the crawler is this is very good advice but negates what I thought we trying do with crawlers, ps are there cvds available for the gen 8?
@rcdriver3 жыл бұрын
More steering is better in many instances, crawlers included. But some kits steer more than the stock components can handle. Telling an RC newbie that just spent 5,6,$700 on a crawler that they have to spend another $50-100 on parts to eliminate the issue can be a huge red flag to many. Helping people enjoy their rig with what they have to work with is a better start and they can upgrade/ modify later if or when they’re ready.

@@rcdriver i gotcha 👌 you right , I just wasn't sure with crawlers , ive seen my gen8 do that and didn't realize it was the dog bones bind en
@rcpatapouf3 жыл бұрын
this issue is clearly due to a design flaw: if the driveshaft was thinner and the ball bigger it would allow a way better steering angle. Or they should simply have made cvd instead of dogbone

I just got my self two of these Nylint 1/6 Scorpion Radio Controlled yellow Jeeps brand new in the box. Unfortunately both are not working i charged the batteries i put bran new 9v battery in the remotes but i can not get them to work at all. Both remotes turn on but i can not get any commands to work nothing is responding even i changed the channels still no respond what so ever its driving me crazy they are brand new. Does any body know whats going on here please? any tips to fix them will help.

I always thought turning down the dual rate felt like the servo felt less powerful. But when you move the link on the servo horn in you gain torque. I wish traxxas allowed you to set endpoints on the shift servo with their expensive link module. At least my steering endpoints can be set easy enough. I know the flysky's are good, and futaba.....but I would have at least 4 or so rigs to convert...... Some day....

Make sure it’s plugged into the channel 1 spot in the receiver properly. If it is, perhaps the servo has burnt out and may need to be replaced.
