Looks like the problem is most youtbers trying to make ground-effect vehicles only use speed to generate lift. The original machines used engines to blow air under the wings for huge lift at low speeds, then use rear engines when specific speed and lift are reached. Maybe you could use an internal duct system to pull air from above the vehicle and redirect it under the wings and backwards, if only for takeoff/landing/low speed travel. Also, remodel the wings to maintain the high-pressure air bubble. It's losing pressure meaning you need higher speeds to maintain the necessary pressure.
@buckstarchaser2376
@buckstarchaser2376 2 жыл бұрын
"maintain the high-pressure air bubble" like an engine bell from a rocket? Sounds legit. I think that's how hovercrafts work, so it should do something, even if that relegates it to an even-lower flight envelope. It looked like he had the basis of that in mind when he made a sort of bowl over his RC car, but then seemed to forget what his plans were when he put the ducted fan way in the back, screwing up his CG and counteracting his "flying aerofoil tail" concept by blowing high-V/low-P air under it.

It reminds me a bit of this RC model called the Hydrofoam, the underside is shaped like a catamaran, and it can drive over water, it can fly, and it can drive over grass. And you are right, it has some hovercraft like features. Basically the single wing spans across the entire length of the aircraft, with a big rear wing that spans across the entire width of the aircraft.

The height of ground effect (without skirts or similar) depends on the wingspan. Half a wing span is the rule of thumb there and it almost instantly vanishes when you exceed that height. So... model ground effect planes a a notorious pain in the rear. When the plane gets big it also becomes very stable.

I had no idea it was something anyone who knows what they are doing would do. I covered it in high fiber content house cladding paper, it has a slick surface that is great for similar uses.

I was looking to design a ground effect vehicle years ago and came across some rules of thumb from a dude who made a personal watercraft sized one. The rules of drag change a lot in this regime and the craft he built had the chord length be the length of vehicle, and longer than the span. Making it so the vehicle can't fly out of ground effect.

I began with big expectations, but I have to tame my imagination and take time to learn the basics. I enjoy watching your videos and the technology-style that you use. My ultimate goal is to build a uav that will travel a few hundred miles. i have a long way to go. I have been spending more time with my 3d printer, as of late. Sometimes I have to take a step back due to frustration. I have watched many of your videos, more than once, and have seen some great ideas to incorporate into my design, specifically the breakdown of demonstrating each tech. that I would like to incorporate, (logistics). For instance... I would like to incorporate solar panels in the wings to recharge the starter cells for the onboard starter. Lets not forget about redundancy by having the ability to utilize a second set of control features, including an electric motor. I am putting a rudimentary plan for a large scale model that incorporates, 'wet-wings', by building fuel tanks into the wings. I am looking into 2-stroke, 4-stroke, gasoline, fuel/oil mixes, etc. Also, I have t look into a ground station and other ways to communicate with the drone, like WI-Fi. i am unsure, but I have thought about providing the drone with its own hotspot. From my understanding, is I keep my drone under 2,000 ft., I can receive a WI-Fi signal. again... Redundancy. Because I could lose communication/data link. I would gratefully appreciate any and all input.

In an age of brushless motors, People often underestimate how much power a brushed motor can have…. Somewhere I’ve got an old car that I put a Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem motor in and it was an absolute beast with the right gearing and a 3s lipo. I think a lot of the stigma of brushed motors being underwhelming has a lot to do with the pre-lipo batteries of the day. Make no mistake, brushless is better, but a good brushed setup can still be a blast. Even the cheap, venerable Titan 550 12T will will ballon tires right off the rims.
