RC Firework Ignition System for RC Airplane - RCLifeOn

This is my second attempt of a remote firing ignition system on a RC airplane. Basically what you are looking at here is a kanthal coil made from a piece of khantal wire wrapped around a screwdriver to match the diameter of the fuse.
Once you apply 12 volts, the coil will instantly reach very high temperatures. The biggest challenge is to find a way of controlling each ignition seperately, but luckily hobbyking have made this really easy with this device. This is a multiswitch which lets you control 7 different outputs from just one port in your receiver. This makes you able to control each ignition seperately by using 1 switch on your transmitter. I made 3 of these ignition
systems on each wing, meaning I only use 6 out of the 7 outputs.
The build process was quite time consuming due to all the soldering. The main reason for this is because the
multiswitch can only supply 500mA for every output, because of the current restriction I had to use relays
to decrease the amount of current drawn from the outputs.
Reloading 6 fireworks doesn't take more than a minute. The first round didn't go very well, as the fireworks got stuck in the wing. For the second attempt I decreased the friction between the foam and fireworks. This time 5 out of 6 fireworks actually fired. 100% of the fuses was ignited, however some of the fireworks were defecetive.

Just a thought: You might get much faster ignition and better response by pulling out the fuse and inserting the wire into the firework, though it would take longer to load and might burn the wire. It might be worth testing, as it could make it easier to hit what you are aiming at. Love watching your projects. They've inspired me to take up my long neglected hobby of tinkering with things to try to make them better (emphasis on "try").

Good video, Got any recommendation of a 1 amp relay that work in the same way? trying to power a led light with the same multiswitch!

+vonown3d A led light won't be a problem. Each output of the multiswitch can supply 0.5 amps.

lite sent nu kanske, men om du ska göra om det, använd transistorer istället för reläer. myyycket mindre och lättare :) kul projekt!

+Joni Paananen Jo jag kollade allt på det, men är inte transistorer ofta för relativt små strömmar? En av dessa små khantal-spolarna drar upp till 7 ampere! Detta var förstås bara första testet, när jag ska flyga så tar jag självklart in alla reläer in i cockpit.

Det finns transistorer som klarar av flera hundra ampere =) jag är inte tillräckligt bra på det för att säga exakt vad de heter dock, men det är så en ESC fungerar, genom att sätta på och stänga av transistorer i rätt ordning. Och det finns ju ESC'er som kan driva rätt ordentliga saker. Nu har du ju fått ihop det, och funkar det så funkar det.
