RC Sproul's comment causes Albert Mohler to facepalm and has the crowd of pastors in tears. Also MacArthur's reaction is priceless. Source: Shepherd's Conference 2004

RC had a great sense of humor. It's easy for teachers to stay in serious mode the entire time because they're teaching very serious things. But RC knew when to say something humorous and lighten things up for a moment.

We can tune in to view these men but one is now missing. R. C. has left this world to be with the Lord he loved and pleased, through his years of teaching the truth from the Bible. Not since the years of the early teachers have we in "His" church been so supported. We loved this man not only because he gave us the Bible but because he also gave of himself. He told us how tough his own journey had become at times. I have often Thanked him for this side of reality. Although we are "In the way" life can always be tough to walk through. R. C. Sproul has made it planer, Which is all we need. Thank you Ligonier Ministries for continuing to leave this on air.

The men seated there might disagree with R.C. but respect him as their teacher. RC makes a strong case for his stand, but he doesn’t undermine what the other teachers preach. RC takes the pain to explain why the tradition was followed and where we go wrong-in thinking that tradition displaces the need of true faith to be justified.

RC stumbled on the words a bit, but he basically said "Priscilla and Aquila told [Apollos] to baptize babies." (as in, that was the error that they corrected Apollos on--he wasn't baptizing infants)

If I understood corectly, and if I did not please tell me, R.C Sproul told that it is ok to make a bath to a baby and call it baptism? If yes, I do not find it funny. This is not relevant to Scripture.
@RushyoRifle6 жыл бұрын
It was a joke, as far as I know R. C. Sproul is simply of the position that "infant baptism" is not inherently wrong nor does it constitute salvation as that comes only by a sovereign work of God.
@TheJpep24246 жыл бұрын
It is inherently wrong because it goes against scripture. In scripture, baptism occurs after salvation. Infants are not saved.
@willnicholsv76446 жыл бұрын
J Pep I did a little digging on why the Presbyterians believe this, one of the sources being a defense of the practice by R.C. himself. There is an excellent "debate" between he and MacArthur here on KZbin. They both lay out good cases, though I believe MacArthur had the upper hand defending believers baptism. We should not dilute the seriousness of this issue, but they both have good cases and this is a nonessential doctrine--one that should not make the church grind to a halt.
@RushyoRifle6 жыл бұрын
It is only serious if people claim baptizing infants is related to salvation. At my church we simply call it a infant/baby dedication, we see it as acknowledging the gift from God and the parents affirm to raise a Godly child and as a congregation we affirm to support the parent and child while they are with us. Ending with a prayer of blessing over the parents and child. It is a God honoring tradition nothing more, nothing less
@willnicholsv76446 жыл бұрын
I do not think the PCA does, other than it being a sign. The Presbyterians use a heavy reliance on a comparison with circumcision to defend their position. Again, I'm not agreeing with them necessarily, but the defenses I have read are rather good. If you rely on scripture alone, believer's-baptism-only is much easier to defend and immersion appears to be the preferred mode. They must rely on some assumptions and viewing the practice through the lenses of church history and tradition, which do have weight in reason, I believe, but are outweighed by the scriptures hundredfold. To my understanding (I'm not a Presbyterian), they compare the fact that, while all of Israel took the sign (circumcision), not all of them were faithful to God. In the same way, Presbyterians argue, all of those in the church, meaning second and later generation believers, should take the sign of the new covenant (baptism), although only through the grace of God and by having faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will they be saved. Continual research on this takes one into differences on beliefs about Israel's place in relation to the church and the people of God as well. Very good cases have been made on the topic of infant baptism--at least those involving the PCA Presbyterians on one side and the Credo-Baptist folks on the other.
