I flew an early Rogollo wing hang glider in the early 1970s and survived a lot of flying but it was scary and primitive compared to today's hang gliders. But I survived without a crash, unlike your machine here, but I had more guts than your pilot. Great model, looks like it was fun to build and fun to fly. Thanks for posting this!

I think there are 2 main problems: a)it only had a skeleton crew and b) the pilot did not have a hands-on approach.

A skeleton pilot is a dead pilot. A dead pilot will not fly the plane properly. I makes sense... LOL

That thing looks like the old NASA Parasev, only with a motor. My grandfather, Vic Horton, was a project manager on the Parasev in 1963 and designed the wing pivot using a salvaged ball joint from a 1950s Buick. They had their share of crashes with it.

I was just going to say modern hangliders unlike this Rogelio style have luff lines to help prevent uncontrolled nose down input , then it nosed in. Nice model👍

I fly RC. I have to say that this is hilarious! I have never seen anybody build or fly something like this.

Ouch rogallos don't like sideslips or negative loading.. bonk! Cool model hope it flew/flies again.

The wing is way too small. But well done for the attempt and keeping it in the air as long as you did!
@RaymondLohengrin2 жыл бұрын
Correct, it is flying because of the tremendous speed of the engine,notice that it is almost running at full and if the engine speed is reduced it would not glide and dive right away.
@koalatails63912 жыл бұрын
The scale of the kite looks wrong when compared to the “pilot”. It flew well so the wing loading must be Ok. You should be proud, it’s unique, quirky, and fun. If only you could land without stop tip-stalling! 😁

So if a dead person crashes a plane, do they become alive?
@u171098atgmail2 жыл бұрын
definite maybe!

Very interesting. It's a variation of zero to negative lift problem seen in weight shift control. it started with a slip in this case. The control method should really be called lift vector control in relation to the center of gravity. No lift = no control. Negative lift = reversed control. Full size weight shift control wings have a lot of attention in the design of the wing to keep them from entering zero lift.

Upon autopsy the pilot’s body was found to be in a highly advanced stage of decomposition.

This is the plane I want to make. I tried it once with the KITE, but it flew just as well as yours and crashed at Bankton. We are currently collecting materials to make with the GLOW40 engine. If there was a drawing when making it, I would like to see it.

Tail wind and lack of relative forward speed causing the crash ?

I think it is the tail wing and relative lack of forwarding speed causing the crash.
