The last in the series on my RCA BTA-1MX transmitter. Have had it on the air for a while now and happy with how its working. Not running it at full power but only useing one PA tube (833) and opperating at around 400 watts.

Nice old RCA. I used to engineer A BTA 5... eons ago. Running it a legal power- very cool indeed.

I dearly love the BTA-1M. Worked at a radio station that had one. Quiet, smooth running xmtr, and it wasn't shy on modulation iron! It just worked and sounded great! Great job on yours! I npw have a Bauer 707 I'll be converting to 160m. 73 De KD5MHQ

What a great clean up, Ray! This may not be one of the jazzier looking radios but I admire it's utilitarian and functonal nature. cheers, bill

I am rescuing one tomorrow here in Arizona. It will be transported to my QTH where it will be cleaned and torn down much like you did Ray, of which you did a fantastic job. Thanks for all that you did and it serves as a way point in my acquisition to getting mine up to speed. Wish me luck and I will be posting the entire story on my AM Forum on QRZ. 73 de Billy N6YW

Nice job! I used to work on a BTA-10K in the past. Would love to have a rig like this!

Haven't seen a CBS volumes or share mixer in many years. Both good pieces of equipment.

Nice work keeping that old iron alive and kicking. Try getting on 1880 in the evenings. I know there's competition with 1885. I'm a Pennsylvania guy myself. KC4MOP

Great restoration job, Ray. That thing looks brand new! I miss the blue glow of the mercury rectifiers though. One of my childhood memories was hanging around the local radio station watching the blue glow of 8008s pulsating with the beat of 1960s rock music. Sort of a preview of the flashing disco lights a decade later. But I'm a little concerned with the size of your T/R relay- I'd like to see something a bit bigger with ceramic insulators. You can get some surprisingly high voltage spikes in RF circuits.

Those old 833s were pretty tubes. Wish you still had the mercury rectifiers. It was fun to watch their blue glow pulsate with the modulation.

Did that RCA Transmitter come from AM 1490, WLPA? I was happy that the transmitter looked so clean, nice, just like it came from the factory. I wish you all the fun with that RCA. I am a "stand alone" AM Broadcaster, and all I have now is a Broadcast Electronics model AM-1A, Just fits right in the rack. I am disabled and can't fool with those old rigs anymore, but it makes me happy to see folks like you give them a second life! Have Fun!

Hi Ray: GREAT job on the RCA.....very clean mods. I'm doing a Gates BC1-T myself. I'm curious though, is that a low pass filter coming out of your Bird 43? I look forward to meeting you on 1885
