I still have mine that I bought in 1979. I'll never forget the frustration of watching a movie and seeing about 15 minutes of the movie skipping through in 10 seconds. It used a stylus very similar to a record player.

Nice! as a young 10 year old kid in 1983 I was secretly envious of our friend's big ass 25" RCA color TV and their RCA Videodisc player. It wasn't until 87' that we finally got an RCA VCR. The VCR was more useful at the time. TIVO my a--s-s the VCR did it back in 87' :P

Thanks for the clarification. Got my dates mixed up. 79 was the year of my first VCR. 82 was when I got my CED.

Stereo sound wasn't a big deal in those days, most televisions were mono. I don't remember anyone who actually cared about stereo sound from their TV, as long as you could hear it, it was fine for most people. Home Theater stereo sound didn't get popular until the 90's.

Stereo sound was a big deal..... To the salesmen selling them. Then it was HiFi, Hi Def, Dolby compatible, NICAM Stereo with true to life Cinema sound for the full Theatre audio Experience in the home. All sales jargon to convince you to buy one. Most people just hooked up their VCR to the HiFi which was already stereo. I remember hearing DTS 5.1 for the first time. OH Fuck! that was a good time in my life. It was Saving Private Ryan. The Omaha Beach scene, WOW! Before then the best was at the cinema. Most people couldn't afford the high end stuff when it came out so I had to wait until the costs came down just like most people did.

Has anyone wondered why there were no porno CEDs ever made? They might have kept the Selectavision alive a tad longer. 😏
