Megger DCM305E EARTH LEAKAGE CLAMP METER
0.001 mA resolution
Up to 100 A range for standard AC current measurements
TRMS reading
Low pass filter to aid stability of readings
Auto, data and peak hold
40 mm jaw
Analogue bargraph display for trending
The DCM305E is perfect for identifying and measuring the earth leakage current in a circuit where the RCD keeps tripping out unexpectedly. The measured result will quickly identify whether the earth leakage current present is excessive, causing the RCD to trip, or if the RCD itself is over sensitive or faulty.
Specially designed to check earth leakage currents, the DCM305E is an efficient and highly versatile instrument. It has six ranges 6 mA, 60 mA, 600 mA, 6 A, 60 A, 100 A with a minimum resolution of 0.001 mA on the 6 mA range. Its upper range also enables TRMS AC current measurements up to 100 A.
Additionally, this clampmeter vastly improves measurements on circuits with harmonics/electric noise on the cables using a low pass filter of 50/60 Hz.
Safety is of the utmost importance and with that in mind, the DCM305E exceeds the latest safety design standards IEC1010-2-32 and EMC requirements through a series of safety features that provide you with a safer working environment.
Other key functions include the “Data Hold” feature which aids in measurements where there is a problem with accessibility or poor lighting, and the automatic power off feature that extends the battery life.
IN THIS VIDEOThe Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester is suitable for conducting full single- and three-phase insulation testing. As indicated above it is able to conduct single- and three-phase RCD testing between 10mA and 1A.
The Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester’s NEW non-trip loop impedance testing technology also enables loop impedance testing of 10mA type AC and A RCDs. Additionally, NEW non-trip loop impedance technology prevents RCDs influencing the total loop impedance value and increases the speed of testing: non-trip loop impedance tests can be performed in eight seconds.
Furthermore, loop impedance tests are accompanied by a Confidence Meter, a NEW feature present on the Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester. The meter will indicate the degree of confidence in the accuracy of the loop impedance measurement. This feature is useful as loop impedance values are particularly susceptible to changes in circuit noise. The Confidence Meter is designed to improve reliability; the digital ARC indicates the analytical process, and the measurement is continually monitored and adjusted in reference to the circuit noise.
Another NEW function present on the Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester is its ability to test electric vehicle charge point RCDs; it includes automatic test sequences and a 6mA DC test (requires OPTIONAL accessory) for this purpose.
Measurements are viewable via the Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester’s large, clear backlit display with a digital/ analogue arc for indicating fluctuating readings and a dual digital readout that displays precise readings and test parameters in parallel. For instance, the dual digital readout will display the output voltage used for the insulation test as well as the resistance value in MΩ. It is also possible to save readings to the Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester’s internal memory (capacity for 1000 measurements); these results can be downloaded via Bluetooth.
Accessing the required measurement function and range is easy using the Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester’s colour coded function controls. In addition to improving the efficiency and ease of testing, these controls also reduce the possibility of selecting the incorrect function or range. This instrument does not include complicated and/or hidden measurement menus.
Furthermore, the Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester features an ambidextrous design with dual TEST and LOCK buttons on either side of the unit, ensuring that it is easy to operate for both right- and left-handed users. Moreover, the Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester offers an automatic test start, removing the need to press the TEST button altogether. This function is particularly useful when holding probes and/or when using the Megger MFT1741+ Multifunction Tester whilst on a ladder.

I agree with a few of the comments that it would be nice if you slow just a little. No disrespect ment. I am a spark and always watch videos to improve myself and my knowledge but it was difficult to take in what you were explaining because it was to fast and jumbled. Appreciate the time you have taken to make this video though.

To be honest Terry it probably wasn’t one of my best videos on them but at the end of the day I’m electrician not a presenter so no offence taken whatsoever.I enjoy making the videos are away the problem I found when making this video was trying to talk to electricians and trying to disguise what I was saying. So anybody with less experience didn’t really cotton on to what I was saying I know this sounds bizarre but it makes sense if you watch my video of this weeks KZbin comments

An insulation resistance tester injects DC into de energized wiring and so it misses leakage current of downstream devices and also capacitance leakage.

Looked at the Megger but seems damn pricey for what it is. Seemed like you could probably get an equivalent for a third of the price, but then I've not used any to know what the actual differences may be.

So if a piece of equipment is tripping the circuit due to alot of earth leakage whats the best thing to do? Put it on the other rcd side if it's dual rcd? It doesn't mean the equipments faulty does it?
@ElectricianTV
@ElectricianTV 2 жыл бұрын
If the fault is Global across the whole consumer unit then I would suggest you put them on an RCBO consumer unit and spread across the whole lot.If it’s all on one circuit Then I would look into it further if you see the link on the video for E5 it tells you the maximum Values you’re allowed per appliance.

I appreciate that I’ve basically had the same conversation with one of my friends on the phone and he said he said the same thing one of the problems is is that I don’t feel that comfortable giving too much away just in case a customer who has less experience tries to follow advice by disconnecting neutrals.If there’s anything in particular you would like me to cover I will bring it up on my Friday show will be answering peoples questions I’m more than happy to do it on that video as it would not have resemblance to this video
