I worked through the night to get this one built so I could get this video done for you quick sharp. What a fantastic and fun build it was and thanks to being a part-built kit, it didn't take that long. In this video, we take a good deep dive into this new release from Japan and find out what all the hype is about.
Do we now have a new class of buggy, the VinMod? A vintage-looking RC with modern materials and design elements? Could this be the way to go or will it end up a total flop? I guess only time will tell.
This buggy was purchased at retail price from Amazon Japan by RCKicks.

Very drawn to this buggy. The Masami collaboration gives it real legitimacy and appeal in trusting it's quality. Availability aside not much in the way of downside. Usually these or those batteries don't fit, if you want brushless you need this drive train, or this part is weak etc etc. So thumbs up on design. Even if you do shelf the old rear cabs still look like they're moving even when stationary. Modern front cabs are all functionality and look like dead ducks.

Hi Gavin! The Genova is looking great.👍 I'd say you're spot on with the color. The box art Genova I've seen over here looked to have been done with Tamiya PS-7. Nice touch with the gunmetal and smoking out the windows too.😎 Overall I'm really pleased with mine. It's a really well built, good looking retro styled buggy. As to whether to run it or not - well, that's a tough one! I get a lot of enjoyment out of running my buggies, so I'd say run it! 😁

@@RCKickschannel Thanks. I read an earlier comment on this and have done some digging. In Japan I can't find any reference to G Force and JEGS. I had a look at the Stinger and it's clear that they share the same overall chassis design and possibly some of the parts. Though it's impossible to tell from the photos if the plastic quality is the same or if the Stinger has an all metal gearbox etc. It also seems like the JEGS Stinger is a recent release - there is hardly anything on the net and it looks like it was released mid June/July time. That puts it around the same time as the Genova, so it is possible that G Force partnered with JEGS to design and develop the chassis together, or that G Force used JEGS design (or vice versa). We may never know. 🤷‍♂ Regardless, the Genova is still a great looking and well built buggy. And in a way, this means that there is in effect, a (potential) source of spare parts for buyers outside of Japan. 👍

@@RCKickschannel i can't believe that jegs stinger was on sale for only 50.00. Id have got it but i opted for the jegs mt which is of course the cenracing torch. Jegs branded the buggy n mt to have 0 links to the original models. I looked at ever bit of info with my jegs mt and it never let on to the reality of its cen racing origin. So im not surprised if there was nothing linking the stinger to gforce. But most ppl agree the genova got a jegs rebrand slapped upon it.

I love what you have done here Gavin, awesome. The chassis reminds me of the Cougar LD2 to be honest, which is a superb handling chassis. The main similarity is the front steering/shock assembly. Yeah, nice plastics too bud, well made! Haha looking at upgrades already, I'm guilty of that too. It seems the Japanese don't wish to make money. Making up turnbuckles isn't my favourite part of the build, so happy days!! Great video bud as always!!

You should run it! It drives great! Like you, I thought this was developed by G-Force but someone in my comments mentioned that it is in fact a rebranded JEGS Stinger buggy. I was disappointed to find out but I still think it’s a cool product and more importantly, one that works well.
@mitsuman5555

Wow you’re right, and they’re $150 USD for an RTR! This kit does look to be improved as the JEGS RTR has non-adjustable links. JEGS has what looks to be a stadium truck version as well. Interesting.
@Toystheyrenot
@Toystheyrenot Жыл бұрын
@@mitsuman5555 The JEGS RTR os priced upwards of $230 usd. $150 is only for the buggy. It does seem lower spec than the Genova. Parts are shared for sure but I think the retail price of the Genova in Japan is still fair. It’s also much better looking than the JEGS.
@KaiCityRC
@KaiCityRC Жыл бұрын
Now this is interesting. I've not been able to find any information in Japanese regarding the JEGS link with G Force, but looking at what is available online it's clear the two buggies share some parts and a similar design. Though the Genova seems to be higher spec. It also seems like the Stinger has just be released around July also (correct me if I'm wrong), so it is possible that G Force and JEGS collaborated on the design and development of this buggy platform...?
@Toystheyrenot

@@KaiCityRC Hi - did some checking and Jegs is a retailer of 1 to 1 scale automotive parts , and has been since the 1960s. I doubt an automotive parts retailers would get involved in the nitty gritty design of any RC buggies/trucks . I would suggest that Jegs has put their name on a bunch of pre-assembled RC kits, and started marketing them in the USA to collect on the RC boom currently being experienced - if you check their site they also sell Traxxas product. The link between the Jegs Stinger and the G-Gorce Genova is possibly the manufacturing plant of both buggies, 🤔

Gav, you need to use this as a long term runner and give us a review along with some similar 2WD buggies at some point down the track. Hey Gavin. Big fan. I got something interesting here I'd like for you to check out. I'm in America and JEGS (American performance car parts supplier) was selling a rc buggy for $49 so I bought a few of them for Nostalgia reasons. I loved racing back in the 90's well when I received the JEGS Stinger buggy I was impressed and wanted to know who made it.. well I couldn't find that out but after looking at every 2wd buggy I came across a rather pricey g-force genova 2wd buggy and other than body and turn buckles it the same buggy. I'm blown away with it for $49 dollars 🤯 I wish I had bought 10 of them now. Take a look at the JEGS buggy and verify my findings for me. The fact it comes with a hobbywing 1040 3s capable esc also just makes it a deal of the season.
@RCKickschannel

Yep it’s from the same manufacturer. The Jegs uses a different plastic for parts, bushes and a few other things but for the sale price it was a total bargain.
