Thanks for the excellent review Bruce! Ordered a 9X along with the frsky diy mod & receiver 3 days ago, more confident with my choice. Wish I hadn't purchased a DX7S last year now. Keep those reviews & info coming.

Great video, Nice to see your input for the guy wanting to get into the hobby. I would like to suggest you do a video on binding with it plus showing folks how to set up and use the transmitter by programming a model as a sample. If you take this on, I will be the first to sit and watch. Thanks for all the good work you're doing.

I have just started this hobby, with your guidance. I did the low cost mini quad build that you posted. Now I need to get a transmitter and receiver. Does the 9x work with open pilot and others? Everything I know about quads, I learned from you. Thank you so much. Keith

Enjoyed that review Bruce, our 9XR is on its way after a delay due to it being on back-order on account that everyone is wanting them. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it is as good as the XG8 as I just love mine (which cost me NZD$520 from an overseas site). The 9XR is for my 8yo to go with his new AXN and I am going to buddy it to my XG8. I looked at getting a RTF model (my 11yo learnt on a NE Skyrunner) but it actually was cheaper long term this way. Looking forward to 'Barry test'.

Bruce, I would love to see you do a video on your technical background! I think we are all impressed with your technical level and, your rather special aptitude for explaining things of a technical nature. Why not do a 'quickie' and tell us about your 'previous life'? All the best from an Englishman living in France, Rich.

Thanks Bruce! Did you happen to notice whether this radio balances better on the neck strap connector than the 9X? The 9X was a bit"bum heavy" and I hope this one will hang better from a neck strap.

I just bought the 9XR and an AXN with everything needed to get it up and flying and the total cost was just over NZD$300. That price included a Turnigy power supply. I guess that is a pretty good deal considering the capability of the radio and the size and performance of the model. NZ model shops add on about $200 to a radio as I bought an XG8 online for a total final cost of NZ$500 whereas they sell for $720 in NZ, either online or in a store.

Agreed! Mine are annoying me. But since I use my throttle trims and rudder trims much less, I unplugged and swapped sides. But only a matter of time before I wear those switches out too.

Bruce, as a beginner I am confused about different 'modules,' how they are selected and what they work with with regards to recievers. It seems that with the 9XR not having a module that some information for beginners is in order, otherwise it is easier to just buy the 9X and recievers that work with the 9X.

Well done Bruce. I was expecting a crucifixion or a burning at the stake after part one. I was very surprised at part two. You plan to show us how to do some elevon programming and so on, why not just show people how to reflash the radio so they have access to templates. A few clicks and the programming for a V tail and many other configurations are done for you. Just a little tweaking if need be and all that work has vanished. Good review. There are bearings only visible when it's pulled down.

Thnak You Professor Bruce for wearing the ER9X T-shirt. Great U did a part 2 because the only point of interest for the 9XR was the "ball bearing gimbals". I rather keep my 3 9X's wich is all i need. ERSKY9X gives U UNLIMITED memoey due to a SD card port. Next step for me is to find a way to install more then one firmware on the 9X. example: Original firmware + ERSKY9X , Good if some HobbyKing models are compatible with the old 9X.

Does the fact the handle antenna is there, and you use a module with an antenna, cause any problems with the 2 antennas being close together? I ask this as you mentioned it in the past when you took out the 9x antenna and installed the frsky antenna in its place. Thanks for the video and waiting for more.

Funny, I've been conflicted with either going economy and buying this or going real deal and buying something like a Dx7s which was addressed here. It would be interesting to see a side by side comparison of a Dx7 or similar with a DSMX equipped 9XR. Thanks for another good review Bruce.

I was going to buy one of these today but I want to wait until I see your review. I spoke with a frsky dealer about buying their module and receiver and they tried to talk me into their new transmitter! As I don't have any modules, could you do a review with the orange module and show the receivers to use. Do you trust the new orange modules and receivers? What is the difference in DSMX and DSM2, and how to set this up? Thanks Bruce for your videos and honest reviews and instructions. Don

VERY competent reviews. I have to challenge your assertion that the screen stick position indicators are a waste. The stick positions are read indirectly via pots of course, and we all (should) know that pots can be scratchy, have gaps, or be totally dead. If a pot goes bad in some way, would it not be at least somewhat evident on the screen with a quick check ... before launch? I'll definitely be buying a 9XR packaged w/ module & receiver for a CX-20 quad upgrade. Hoping to get some autotune happening, chief among the many other advantages. Thanks to ya!

Looking forward to seeing your next video since using the ER9X software on my 9X wasn't a fun exercise. My mind hasn't changed and I feel I'll still get the Turnigy 9X over the 9XR mainly because of the ergonomics, however, I may get one in the future since I'm (Still) planning to redesign the Turnigy 9X main board with a more powerful processor. Also, shame they didn't credit the ER9X guys at all.

There's no issues with interference between the 2 antennas, since only one is used at a time. If you're using an external antenna, the antenna in the handle is not being used. If you're using the handle antenna (with the as-yet unreleased module that plugs into it) then you won't need an external antenna.

Ye, almost certainly although of course I have not tried it with a 9XR. Based on the fact that the manual is Erazz's original manual (complete with his wry humour) the firmware is the basic Er9x firmware. I have one 9x radio with this firmware and use Eepe to communicate: download models as I program them and to test complicated changes before uploading back the Tx. You need a USBAP interface cable.

Bruce, my 9XR is 'in the post', but what I would like to do is, take the transmitter from my 9x unit and mount that in the 9XR, so I can keep the 9x for my simulator. The reason is, I have quite a few receivers for the 9x that I want to keep, for financial reasons if nothing else. So, do you think that idea is a worth looking at?

Aaaaaargh...... I have been trying to get my cart together for an AXN and a 9X from the Australian Warehouse, but have had back orders for a few things. So then I thought about getting a smaller PNF model as I will mainly be at a park, but the standard 9X RX would probably be too big. Now your twisting my arm to go the 9XR. Which module would you recommend for this? the FrSky DJR? or OrangeRX DSM2? It is a shame the correct modules are taking so long. Any knowledge of the FrSky X9D??

I would like to know your opinion on modding the Turnigy 9X (the old one, this is not a typo :P) to reflash the software to er9x. A lot of people say that it has many benefits over the stock firmware, but which ones are they? The only benefit I can think of, is that you can custom make your own start-up screen :P Regards! BTW liked the review on this radio!!

There is acknowledgement of the Er 9x development at the back of the manual but no links to any Er9x sites. Google up Er 9x and find the Wiki page. That's where you find links the firmware which supports FrSky telemetry. There's a sound card being developed so your radio can talk to you including speak the telemetry values. ErSky 9x is a development which allows the logic board to be replaced giving unlimited model memory, FrSky telemetry support built in, and more; but it won't fit in the case

I have been using a DX7 for many years and I love it but recently I have got in to FPV and I want more range. I have been doing a lot of research and the Turnigy 9x seems to be popular as it is easy to use systems such as Dragon link with it? Should I ditch my DX7 in favour of the Turnigy 9XR and use the orange DSM2 module for my other models as they are all DSM2! Any thoughts?

@andygsp
@andygsp 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it can. You need to use a cable to connect it obviously, and here you have 2 options: 1. A usb interface cable. You can get them on ebay and stores like banggood etc. Do a search for something like "USB Simulator Interface for Turnigy 9XR" 2. A trainer cable or a mono audio jack plugged into the audio input on your pc and use some software called "smartpropoplus" or "smartpropo". This software interprets the signals via the audio input and translates them to a virtual controller in your PC. Not as good as the USB cable, so I suggest getting that instead.

With a DSM2/DSMX module from HobbyKing, you can use the 9X-R with all of your Spektrum receivers. Or you can use a FlySky/Turnigy module from eBay, and use HobbyKing's own range of cheap receivers. Or you can use a FrSky module and FrSky receivers.
