It's a similar story in F1 with Aston Martin. Went from scoring 8 podiums with Alonso last year to struggling to score points this year along with poor car development. Stroll's seat is secured because of his dad owning the team and will always be kept on despite wasting a seat. Like Austin, Lance worked his way through the ladder and had some bright moments at the top, but has become a mid-driver who struggles with consistency and complains a lot despite Aston Martin defending him and admitting their project is built around him

Kyle Busch has suffered from the sinking ship that is RCR, their downfall is similar to Roush-Fenway in the 2010s in terms of how they're run the old school way. I wonder if it's Richard Childress and Mike Dillon holding the team back, we'll honestly never know. Without Dale Sr and Harvick, the team wouldn't be around today.

Ive been saying it for awhile, but there is a specific catalyst to the 8 cars drop in performance, and upon further inspection, it really exhasterbated Dillons consistency issues with the 3. After the Auto Club win, NASCAR outlawed some equipment that the 8 car had (per: an interview Busch gave. No specifics on said equipment, or if the 3 car had it as well), and since then they hadnt been able to get the car consistently good. Dillon is a decent driver, and when he has a good car he can compete. His issue is he isnt able to wheel a shitbox around to the same extent as a driver like Busch, so his struggles look worse as he sits in that 15th-25th area of drivers normally. Without whatever that equipment is, both cars are just lacking something, and they cant seem to find any way to remedy it besides pit strategy and occasionally getting the setup right. Both drivers are undoubetly having personal lows as drivers. KB has proven he can take bad equipment to victory lane, and Dillon has proven he can be above average with the right equipment, but RCR's equipment might be the worst on the field at this current moment, and KB whether due to age, or the equipment actually being that far behind the competition, he just cant drive it like he couldve in the past. Whatever they were doing in early 2023, that was likely the only reason they were succeeding
@gamez44204 ай бұрын
I do wanna add: I've been searching like hell for this interview (I explicitly remember it being a sit down interview with a media group that doesn't typically foray into NASCAR) so it may have been taken down. @swinny57974 ай бұрын
So I have a few thoughts on this. 1. I'd argue Austin didn't even earn his way into the cup series. I don't personally see that truck and Xfinity success as worthwhile as others as he was in OP equipment that Childress was providing. Felt like Austin had an F1 car in an F2 field. 2. Kyle Busch is currently mirroring his older bro's career. This is the Furniture Row and other back of the grid teams Kurt era for Kyle. 3. Earnhardt made RCR what it was. After 01, Harvick did a damn good job keeping it afloat but RCR has never been a top team since. 4. I also think that part of RCR's problem is HMS. Childress is never going to get the main priority from Chevrolet and Hendrick is never going to leave Chevy. So RCR are truly stuck in a bind there unless they do the unthinkable and switch OEM's. (Though there's also a conversation to be had there that 3 isn't enough and a 4th entering would seriously benefit the sport and several teams). Also pretty much all of Dillon's cup wins had a degree of BS to them. Either plate track luck or fuel mileage nonsense. Dillon is the most egregious case of nepotism in the cup series.

If Richard wants to win, he has to make changes and fast. 1. Austin Dillon out, someone else (Noah Gragson?) in. 2. Overpay for Rodney Childers. It’s clear RCR isn’t his #1 destination, whether it be a Chevy thing or the fact their shop is like an hour from mooresville for some reason. Give him an offer he can’t refuse. 3. Go find a magic lamp with a genie who will grant three wishes or something idk

I’ll say this. Austin Dillon isn’t nearly as bad as people make him out to be. He’s typically gonna run around where that car is supposed to run. He’s not gonna elevate your team, but he’s also typically not gonna ride around 10 spots off of where he should be Kyle Busch on the other hand can elevate a team like I’ve never seen before So the fact that Dillon is 32nd and Kyle’s like 20th is basically telling me that RCR might genuinely have the worst cars in cup this year

I'm not expecting Kyle to stay this offseason so they might be looking at a completely fresh start come 2025, and Hill should be more than ready. As for the other seat, if Love is ready than give it to him, if not keep Dillon or get a placeholder like Gragson until he is
@noahmoore65134 ай бұрын
I think a problem for Kyle is just the inherent nature of this car and its narrow setup window. Kyle is a guy who drives off the right rear and these next gen cars favor guys who drive off the right front. As 2023 went on teams started to zero in more on this car and how to set it up. I think this struggle to adjust is hurting him.
