I just started doing surface vehicles. I’m 71 and flew RC Helicopters for the past 17 years, however, my eyesight has “grounded me “. I really appreciate you sharing your experience and expertise to the “World”. This video was outstanding. THANK YOU

Gotta say, 6 years ago, I ended up with 4.5x1.9 swampers. Didn't even realize until I was out with my friend and his tires looked almost a half inch taller. Dual stage is where it's at. I run BFG krawlers, rc4wd Baja claws, hirax with dual stage, and a modified set of canyon trails that I seriously have put at least 100 miles on. Great information, I'm hoping to try out the antifoams soon.

Good stuff, especially helpful for people newer to the hobby!👍 I agree that terrain is much more of a deciding factor in choosing a tread design but driving style/preference certainly plays a part. And, one advantage to beadlocks that you overlooked. As mentioned, venting your tire/rim is always better for performance but let's water/dirt into the tire. With beadlocks though, just simply remove the locking rings on either side and let the inserts dry out or remove any dirt (you can't do that if the tires are glued)!

Ah yes, most, most definitely for beadlock maintenance.

Francis, thank you for yet another amazingly insightful review, this is one of the best rc crawler tip videos I have seen. I couldn't agree more. The choice of tires (size, pattern and compound) and wheels is one of the most critical elements in performance. IMO next is suspension, cg and pivot points of the suspension system. You pick and tune these elements properly and you will see the most performance improvements ever. Awesome work, may I share with our growing group the MO scalers?

Hi, great video as usual. For the foams, please check out for A.L.T. Foams. These are customized for several tires sizes and vehicle weights, water resesistant and provide better site stability than dual stage foams.

Very informative video I’ve been in The Hobby for quite some time. Mainly the bashers, speed, drag, and drift. I’ve had a couple crawlers but I’ve always gotten rid of them within a month. Just didn’t have too many friends into them but now I do. And now I have quite a few this was a very informative video appreciate it thank you

Another excellent video. It is very informative Francis. I like to keep my 1/6th scale vehicles pretty standard, but I do like to understand other peoples ideas and sometimes use the ideas. Keep them coming Francis.

I just wish the dual stage foams and 3d printed stuff was more easily available in Europe. The only non-standard foam stuff we get is Proline and Crazy Crawler foams. Making it very hard for us folks who run smaller (below 4 inch) tires.
@eM4rio2 жыл бұрын
You can make your own foams from foams used to full coaches. :)

What about old tec hair buns! They do seem to work as long as you can match them to the tire/wheel sizes!

Great video. I'm a newbie to RC crawling so apologies if these are silly questions. I've read on a forum that a tip is to run the front tyres backwards if they are rotational. Is this a thing and if so how does it help? Also I've a set of 1.0 Treal Beadlock wheels that come with a ring. Do you have to use the ring, or can you run without to reduce rotational weight? I'm fitting to a Fcx24 and will be using brass portal covers also. Thanks in advance.

Very informative video. Thanks for all the info as it helped me alot. I saw you covered the foam part about heavy rigs. I'm fairly new to upgrading crawlers/trail trucks as they were a in and out thing for me as there really much to use them on. But my local hobby shop is building a crawler course so it definitely peaks my interest again. But what I was curious if you have any recommendations for my vehicle. I have an HG P415 (hummer h1) that I got in a trade not to long ago. I have better electronics left over from other projects so that is covered. I want to keep the 1.9 wheel size and I know I can't run any tire bigger then a 4.2 inch diameter. What tire would you recommend? I would also like to know which brand and type of foam you would recommend? My rig is a hefty weight at I'm gonna guess pushing the 15 pound mark. Thanks for your help.

Francis, i am new to 1/10 scale RC..crawlers especially... I just bought Axial scx10 3 basecamp kit. Will it have 12 mm hex to the wheel ? My 1/12 car has 12 mm hex. What would be the best bead lock wheel set for me now? Please help! Thanks.

Ok...I am a newbie here in the rc crawler world. I have looked for days on the web and found no results on this. Having an issue learning tire widths to wheel widths. How to get the right tire foam height for the tires. Lets take a 2.2 canyon trail...its 137mm x 55mm so can i put it on a 25mm wide rim? or a 32mm or a 35mm. Selecting a foam for it...what is the formula for it...add a few mm bigger than the tire..a few mm smaller. Driving me nuts, can you shed some light on this for me?

Proline dual stage foams are just entirely too stiff. I like my tires to appear more aired down than the proline can achieve without modifying the closed cell insert.
@RCReviewChannel2 жыл бұрын
That is true. It seems more ideal for a 8+ lb vehicle.

Hi there! Something I dont get. If I have 90mm shocks and my tires dont touch the body. If i change them to 70 for example will they touch it or only the flex will be smaller? Danke

You don't have to throw away glued tires . You can bake tires off rims , I've done it multiple times.

I’ve done iii as well a few times and it works for some loosely glued brands. The wheels can be saved but it is a pretty painful experience

Here's a problem I've discovered. People on ebay selling brass weights for 1.9 wheels but those weights don't have the correct holes/threads for the 1.9 wheels. They are only good for 2.2 wheels even though they show them as suitable for both. From what I can see 2.2 wheels have bigger centre screws and 1.9 have smaller so same as outer bead screws. Got these weights for my 1.9 wheels and they don't fit. Has anyone found brass weights they fit the 1.9 wheels?
