One thing I didn't mention is the Futaba at 8.4v was running out of amps because of the 10amp limit. Thus if we had a more powerful power supply, it would pull more oz/in of torque. Probably hit 1000+. You can see it as the red light goes on and the voltage drops.

Holy Hell! What a servo! Thats insane! Mega Overkill! Such a whine under load! You should Test the Reefs RAW 500. I know you have tested the 555 and 444 but the RAW 500 is extremely popular because you get an upgrade from a coreless servo to a brushless one, and it is 7-seal "submarine" waterproof rated. plus it is nearly as powerful as the 555 while being much faster. Everyone I know putting good money into servos is going for the RAW 500 in extreme bashing setups such as 1/8 Arrma Kraton EXBs. They assume that because testing has been done on the 444 and 555 that they can trust the ratings of the RAW 500. Also, another interesting test from Reefs would be the 400SC Racing Servo. It claims to have absolutely insane speeds while also having enough torque to easily power a 1/8 Truggy around the track and they are getting incredibly popular in the racing scene for their reasonable price and programmability. A good competitor test for these servos would be the Protek RC 170 SBL and TBL servos as they have been extremely popular for many years already and existed before Reefs RC even existed as a company.

@RC Review Love the servo test videos, very valuable data for consumers to make informed decisions and much appreciated! When are you going to test the Hitec/RCD DB777WP & D956WP servos? Both look great on paper, it would be great to see test results and hear how they sound under load. And AMain carries both. Hopefully soon? Thank you again for your time and expertise! :)

I have two Futaba CB700 for 1/8 scale on road nitro GT/GP for their superior speed. Those are so powerful the first time set up has to be very careful to not cause damages to the vehicle. (dial down end points first.) When you gave the much more powerful A700 10amp with constant 8.4volt, it felt like the rig could give away any moment :-) Thanks for these tests. I need to change my noisy Savox 1272sg in my SCX10.3 (recycled from nitro buggy) for something much quieter...

Maybe I missed it but have you seen or done a review of the servo that Beeftubes is selling? I think the number is BT663MG? I recently purchased one and it works great but other than power and speed there's no information beyond that. It will supposedly do 663oz.in. at 7.4v which is where I have it set and it works very well and it's pretty quiet. I'm glad we have guys like you out there that we can actually get responses from, so keep up the good work and again, great video.

@richardmiddleton7770
@richardmiddleton7770 3 жыл бұрын
Good test but a BEC's current rating is not "what it puts out", it is the maximum continuous current it can handle without overheating/shutting down or simply not being able to hold voltage. So a 5A rated BEC will be able to handle roughly 10A for a short period of 3-5 seconds for example. In a car with just one of these on steering you would get away with a 5A BEC and you would still get the full 70+kg/cm of torque from the servo, although you wouldn't need anything near that even in a 5th scale monster truck!

I just spent £300 on 3x BLS173SV for a Kraken 580 and I thought that stung. Imagine investing £1000 for the servos alone... Some impressive performance, but you're going to have a huge, heavy model to require this much performance.

I love your channel! I like the way you test the servos! There is some controversy about a similar servo, the cb700(related to the a700), people claiming it consumes less power, but futaba warning not to use with a bec. Maybe you can test? I also saw from your previous test the hitec 9380, incredible low amp draw at stall( around 2 amp). Did you need to use the hitec PAD when using the 9380 in your rc’s? Maybe you can test the regenerative braking feature in the future......

@Dave-nf7rc

I'm not sure why a RC crawler would need a servo with this torque. The price point is high. I use high speed/torque servos in my 60CC RC planes and helps. But they are controlling huge control surfaces. I'm using a reefs raw 500 in my SCX10III which, I think may be overkill. A very good review.
@RCReviewChannel
@RCReviewChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Great insight. This servo delivers the goods, that's for sure. Whether one needs it or not, is a whole other issue. Certainly it's good that it doesn't need special direct power wiring and it delivers pull after pull consistently without fading. It will probably operate at 50% of capacity usually so it will be just purring along, staying cool. As for getting a servo that's this overpowered, it's like most things in life like a 600hp car or a brushless motor running 3s or 4s. It's to impress your friends and sleep better at night. :)

German Big That’s kinda how the video made it sound. But current is determined by the load. It’s my understanding that if the supply can’t handle it eventually it will be damaged. You’d need a BEC that can supply whatever current the servo demands.

Your probably not going to get that much torque from a Model in real life usage so the amps usage of the servo will be a lot less especially on large scale 3D Airplanes. But good to test max draw and torque. The smaller Futaba and JR servos I tested had really low amps usage as compared with other servos like Hitec and Savox but I still prefer those over Futaba and JR as there better bang for the buck!! We tend to overpower our plane batteries anyway.

OK I've been out of the hobby now for about nine years as I went completely blind in a big heavy vehicle 1/6 of 1/5 scale I understand you needing this much torque maybe however almost 20 years ago I bought a JR 8717 servo it had a rating of 188 ounces and a speed of I think .08 around that I have ran that servo in an HPI savage fairly heavy vehicle, an electric Losey buggy and an electric team associated Trogi. I have never seen the need for a faster or even stronger reacting servo And it only 188 ounces. I don't understand why these new servos have to have 350 400 ounces and then recommend that servo on a 1/10 scale vehicle it should not take nowhere near that much power to actually turn a 1/10 or 18 scale vehicle, I just don't get it
