Just an FYI, I had my new SW 67" Extra NG crash in the first 8 seconds of the maiden. What I found was the connector of the right aileron was a bad crimp. Only 6 strands of wire out of the 60 were under the crimp. The rest were on top of the crimp loose. According to Theta SW changes the factory connector to fit the quick connect. If you use the SW theta servos, be sure to check all of the pins on the servos.

I accidentally did the furthest range test anyone has ever done lol. Had my jet facing away instead of towards me and it became a dot! I don’t know how I got it back without crashing. I went up, down, left, right, etc. until I faced the dot towards me, so I thought! and it worked out. After some time the dot started to look like a jet. Can I ask a question? I feel like an old fogey… at 39 years old ha ha! When I flew 72Mhz and I also flew 50/53, we NEVER had range issues. We thought nothing of flying out to a speck in the distance. Now all I ever hear is range issues. Including my own FrSky experience. It was so terrible! I now have an LRS Zorro that I’m hoping will give me back full range, but I’m also toying with putting my JR 72Mhz gear on some other planes. Thoughts? I have been amazed how the hobby has put up with such poor range for so many years since 72 was dumped for 2.4 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews Жыл бұрын
You're asking good questions that require more of an answer than I'd be willing to hammer out in YT comments. Bottom line: 2.4ghz is fast, much shorter wave length, susceptible to moisture in the air, less penetration capabilities than much much lower frequencies. 72mhz is a MUCH longer wave, still powerful after half life, but very slow in comparison. ELRS LORA attempts to offer the best of both worlds--range and speed. Do some research on why LORA is effective.
@thomascee
@thomascee Жыл бұрын
@@RCVideoReviews Totally understand not wanting to type a dissertation in a YT comment :) Okay, yes I have gone down the ELRS rabbit trail. And I'm in 100% with that. And if that doesn't provide excellent range I'm going to grab a 900Mhz ELRS module to play with and see what that does. I guess I'm just surprised. I left the 72Mhz hobby for college and the like, then came back years later to everyone just putting up with failsafes as a way of life and nobody seeming to question it, or recall the days when range was never an issue. I thought it was terrible and never thought it was any good and far preferred my old 72Mhz gear because it was reliable! Maybe LRS/LoRa will change that. Just curious mostly! When you're the only one thinking something, it messes with your head, and I start to think that I must be the oddball. I probably am if you ask my wife, but anyway :) Thanks for the great content, and the comment.

Beautiful field, where is it located? John, can you describe in detail how "that feels good" means when you have it trimmed. :) I'm guessing you mean, you are not holding any sticks deflected from the neutral position. At least for me, when I had the B-52H trimmed, I could let the yoke go and it would fly stable with my hands off the yoke. Looks like you are going to keep it!

Question... Does that Laser have muvh carbon fiber inside the fuselage? If it does not I would say you have some transmitter or receiver problems but I know for a fact that carbon fiber can cause those loss of signal problems.I would suggest poking a hole and running your antenae outside the fuse.
@BladeScraper
@BladeScraper 6 ай бұрын
I know this is an old video but figured I'd comment anyway. It's worth noting that the transmit power in FrSky D16 mode on the TX16S/MPM module is considerably lower than a real FrSky RF module, which will definitely affect range. Not sure on the figures specifically but there is a RCG thread/post out there with the testing results. There's also the fact that D16 and D8 needs to be RF fine tuned when used with MPM, not sure if you did that or not. A poor tune will dramatically reduce range.

One thing to think about. If the canopy pushes down on the upper antenna the way it sits in the video it will be making it go in line (parallel with the other antenna lead) instead of upright. I can't tell on the video if there is clearance for the active antenna end to not be touched. As it is my understand that the uncovered end of the antennas is where the signal reacts with the rcvr and not the bulk of the wire that could be part of the rssi issue.

I'm not surprised that this plane had problems in the air - there's no pilot!!! Joking apart, the Laser is a really cool looking craft. Looking forward to seeing the Laser in an aerobatics workout. Antenna placement. The upper antenna point upwards when the canopy is not present - but when the canopy is in place the antenna cannot point upwards. Well, not unless there is a hole in the canopy tray. Try and position the active end of the antennae well away form any metal, like rods and cables. And avoid battery shadowing. Elevator down? The inverted 45 degree climb had a downwards arc indicating a nose heavy craft - a contradiction there. I do prefer a linear climb indicating a neutral CofG.
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews Жыл бұрын
Two antennas 90 degree separation accounting for the canopy and well clear of the battery. The bottom antenna was in clear space. I have been using S6Rs for a lot of years, something isn't right with this one. In any case, it's already been replaced with ELRS. Regarding the inversion test and the S&L test: Down elevator trim to maintain S&L means it is tail heavy. The inverted arc is a matter of design, incidence, decalage, and preference. Keep in mind, we also identified a variance in incidence from one wing to the next which could also influence the outcome. Barring other adjustments (like straightening the port wing), if you prefer a straight upline with no arc, you would move the battery back, but you would also wind up with more down elevator for S&L.
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews Жыл бұрын
Dave also mentioned thrust angle of the motor having an influence.
@davidpaker626
@davidpaker626 Жыл бұрын
The answer to that question is very very long but here's a quick one, A slight arc on the 45 line upside down with 75% power does not mean the airplane Is Is tail heavy, That depends On the type of plane and your type of flying , What you like best. This test among others is to get you in the ballpark of where the airplane should be, There are other tests like the Knife edge test you don't want the airplane to pull neither to the canopy nor to the gear because that would suggest it's either tail heavy or nose heavy. So these are tests so you can set it where it's better for your type of flying .Obviously with the CG within the designed envelope. In the case of the laser John had just a very slight arc and the elevator end up down a little bit ,the way to correct that would be changing the incidents just a hair to straighten the elevator but in this case this airplane does not have adjustable stabs. or a tiny bit of down thrust on the motor . Why is it that way it could be a number of things a construction Defect, Designed that way which I seriously doubt that , Fitting the stab to the fuselage if it did not go in perfectly straight on initial installation half a millimeter that you sand off will change that incident's just a hair. It can be a number of things. To proper trim an airplane for serious precise maneuvers you have to consider thrust angles weight and balance incidents of the wing and stab and the relation between them. There are all kinds of opinions out there the best way to do it is ask one of the guys, the world champions like CPLR , Andrew jesky ,Jason schullman, Juan Rambo, Sebastiano Silvestry, brooksman. these guys have the trimming down to a T and they know exactly what to do to get the airplane flying as perfect as possible. It takes them months even I've heard some say the planes are never trimmed completely they are always trimming. Like I say that there's a lot more to talk about but it's too long I hope this helps a little bit, bottom line you find the method you like best and how the plane flies best and just overlook the little details like that elevator being down a hair.🙂
