I love how they keep saying 3 million years in space. When throughout the series they spent countless years in stasis, time travel and dimension hopping. They could be anywhere at anytime by now. They don't even have a Holly to point them in the right direction. This just adds to the whole idea that Lister has resigned himself to living on Red Dwarf forever.

This was probably my fave of series 10 mainly cos it does hark very much back to the style of series 1 and 2 where they're just arsing about on the ship and the vending machines were a lot of fun, the concept of talking vending machines and toasters was always interesting since it may well happen one day so these concepts while played for laughs now may come up in a few hundred years.

This was one of my favourite Season 10 episodes. In fact, I think this was the one that once and for all convinced me that, yes, Red Dwarf is good again. It's reminiscent of early Dwarf without being a self-conscious imitation.

So I'm re-watching Red Dwarf, and as a result I'm also re-watching your Vlogs. I love them all and I wanted to share something I realised upon my rewatch of this episode not mentioned here; in the S2 episode when they had a mail pod, Rimmer has a letter that he can't open (physically) and so Lister ends up opening it and breaking some dramatic news to Rimmer, which ends up affecting him the whole episode. In S10 when the mail pod comes this time; its Lister with a letter he can't open (this time for emotional reasons) and Rimmer's the one to open it and then break Lister news that affects him the whole episode. Just thought it was funny, since this season is full of references to the original few seasons.

Given it's almost impossible to stand up a vending machine while your laying on it, the crew has every reason to think he was humping that vending machine. "Well, I can't say I'm totally shocked. You'll bonk anything won't you, Lister?"

The fact that laying on it to try and pick it up doesn't make much sense is why the joke doesn't quite work.

Easy fix would have been that he instead gets stuck on her, like his belt is stuck in the flap. And then his misunderstood call becomes "I'm trying to get off"

It’s kinda sad how the relationship between Rimmer and Lister has changed. They actually did care about each other even though they still shat on each other a lot. Take better than life for example when Rimmer found out his Dad died Lister showed sympathy same with thanks for the memory and even Time slides. So sad😔

Happens with most sitcoms, though. The characters get broader as the show goes on and the writers find comic hooks and work them. Take 'Friends,' for example, where Ross went from vaguely neurotic to unbelievable dork, Joey got ludicrously stupid, Chandler was made more and more pathetic, Monica turned from the responsible one into an OCD clean freak and so on.

I always imagine that the 2 latest red dwarf seasons are an alternate time line to season 8 and that only Lister & Christine are the only humans alive (that they are aware of). Since between all the dimension & time hopping the timeline must me a fractured mess. Red Dwarf Multiverse. I've lost track but there must be at least 6 alternate time lines and dimensions. Time-slides/Statis, White Hole, Backwards' Time Hole,The Inquisitor, Simulant's Teleporter, Time Drive, The Alternate Time Drive, The Time Rip, Mirror Universe, Back to Reality, Ace Rimmer, Hologram Ace Rimmer, The Dead Ace Rimmers Timelines etc etc All with multiple resulting timelines.

The thing that confuses me about series 10 is the implication that there communicating with the space core but surely that's not possible 3 million years into deep space. Maybe it's just a space core computer on Red Dwarf but i thought Holly was the computer so.....

They've been getting mailshots for a while now. Apparently they kept firing mail pods at Red Dwarf even though it was leaving the solar system, and when it turned around 3 million years later they eventually caught up. "Not bad for a second class post". Also, with Holly gone, they've seemed to fill the role (s)he once occupied with various simpler computers dedicated to a specific purpose. Whether those have always been there and they never bothered showing them until now, or whether they're something the crew rigged up to fill the hole Holly left is anybody's guess. I suspect that it's the former, because who in their right mind would set up a computer specifically for enforcing JMC rules, especially in light of the Queeg episode? Oh, right. Rimmer.

I guess that makes sense i think it should have been explained more in the series i mean who was Rimmer writing letters to for years the computer ? was it the computer who renamed the ship to howard and gave out a medal granted that could of been the guys messing with Rimmer anyways it's not a big deal just kinda confused me.

To be honest I get the feeling that the red dwarf crew were killed offscreen. I mean at the end of series 8 they took all of the Red Dwarf shuttle craft which was why the rest of the gang were stuck on board but by season 10 they have their blue midgets and starbugs back. Besides if they were all alive they probably would've caught up with Red Dwarf by now

There was an episode in Season 12(?) that covered that, I think. The JMC punished them for not following the rules--if I remember correctly, I think all the JMC food products became invisible or something like that.

I find the dispensing machine humping joke to be one of the worst jokes the show has ever done. Craig has to really try hard to make the gag work and it still looks really unconvincing. i don't understand how the writer ever thought it could work? it feels like a poor mans version of the polymorph boxer shorts gag.

Yeah. I watched this as my first season X episode by mistake, and was super leery about the quality of the rest afterwards because the rest is pretty okay but this joke is like the culmination, and ugh. Then I enjoyed ALL the rest vastly more, to the point that I wondered if I just wasn't "back into it" yet, since I hadn't watched any RD in literal years when I watched this one. But, after seeing this recap, I think not, it's just dumb.
