I really wish this had been a two-parter. The whole concept of having the crew captured by a bunch of mechanoids with Kryten being won to their cause while the others try to escape and meet a group of oppressed droids could have easily been expanded. Plus I'd happily have Siliconia Part II over a certain other episode this season which may or may not be next up.

Yeah the ending felt abrupt but I do love the episode overall

I wish the episode had embraced the horrificness of the concept. that being the put into a robot body and slowly losing yourself thing. but then thats kinda hard to do when at the end you want the mechs to be seen as misunderstood.

I liked this episode. A lot of commentary while still being funny, relevant and yet not heavily political. It just showcases the dangers and temptation of cult like groups. Ultimately, it shows how people can be manipulated into joining something dark which masquerades as a moral good.

I think the "cleanasium" was filmed at the same location they used for "Justice world" in season 4. Sunbury Pumphouse, a disused water pumping station that was also used for the British TV video games show "GamesMatser" in the early 90's.

this ones quite dark and its a lot of fun, i think Cured was funnier though. this one kind of gives me Doctor Who Cyberman vibes with the whole humans becoming mindless robots schtick. something that we never find out is how many of the mechanoids on the ship are actually mechanoids and how many are converted humans, im guessing that the ones on the lower levels may have been human beforehand.

The doccumentary on Bodyswap confirmed Craig Charles struggled with impressions of Rimmer so doing Kryten's Vancouver accent is a lot harder. I imagine it probably was just easier for Charles with his scouse accent to do posh Queen's English. Chris Barrie is a talented impressionist so he can get more lines as Kryten.
@ianfrench1577 Жыл бұрын
Kryten's accent is English. Not Canadian.
@thesmithersy Жыл бұрын
@@ianfrench1577 It's certainly not an English accent. He openly said in the documentary, he was trying to interpret a Canadian Vancouver accent.

Well considering I've lived in the UK for 4 decades now, I'm in a pretty good position to know what a British accent sounds like. I've been speaking the Queen's English all my life. I have a friend from the south east of the UK who sounds very similar to the way Kryten's accent is, albeit less polite, and he certainly isn't Canadian.@@thesmithersy

I thought this was a great episode as just seeing the cast in the make of Kryten was funny as hell. I think it is funny as hell and plus it kind of reminds me of earthbound in a way as you need to put your mind into robot bodies so you can handle the madness that would otherwise kill you when you try to fight the final boss. Also as always great video Dena hope to see more or even streams. Till then I and everyone who follows ya will wait for ya. We all will smoke ya all the kippers and be waiting for you for breakfast.

do you not think this episode is unfair on cat? rimmer and lister are always imposing on kryten but i'm not sure there's an instance of cat doing so in the entire run until this episode. we know he can do his own laundry and i think he would be more likely to ban kryten from touching his clothes rather than letting him wash and iron them. and then he's the one who is made to break his own finger.
@Cyborcat5 жыл бұрын
Hadn't thought of that, but maybe. I'll keep that in mind of the Cat video.

*Can't believe I am saying this given that I quit watching the show during season 7 but they should have ended it with season 10. Was the perfect ending for them, Rimmer's character growth was perfection & they left the ending ambiguous so the audience can make up their own ending.*

I've noticed some of the budget has been saved here as most of the Mechs are wearing casts of Kryten's series 11/12 costume over wetsuits and the lower level ones (as well as Cat and Lister) are wearing Kryten's series 9 and 10 costumes (the latter with the shoulder tubes removed). They're the ones with smaller view screens and done up in gunmetal not light grey, I wonder if it was intentional that Cat and Lister are gunmetal and Kryten and Rimmer are light grey. Though I really despise the series 11/12 Kryten suit. It looks so cheap, it makes him look fat and makes his face all round (I assume that's more to do with comfort for Llewellyn though). It's almost as bad as Series 2's Kryten, especially coming off the back of series 10 and 9 (especially 9) where the suits were much more similar to Series 3-8 but made with more modern materials and more of a budget.
