4:03 - also have a tama starclassic and when i was gigging hard, i got my 5 piece + 4 cymbals (not inculding hats) down to 2 cymbal stands. i was so proud lol. Each cymbal stand held 1 tom + two cymbals. throw in a floor tom, hh stand and snare stand and it ends up being a pretty light load for a "full" kit.
@Assimilator7028 жыл бұрын
Those Tamas are either 2006 or 2007. They're 10 lug bass drums with the new style Starcast mount which were both introduced in 2006. Black Starcast mounts and 8 lug kicks were 2005 and earlier. In 2008 Birch Performers gave way to Birch/Bubinga.

Thanks to you rdavidr i just purchased my starclassic walnut birch and its the best kit ive ever heard best bass drum sounds ive ever heard goes well with my chris adler warbird
@ianmuessig6 жыл бұрын
I also don't use a huge set up either. Currently I'm only using bass, snare, ride, and a bell with my gigging band (surf rock, spaghetti western, & psycobilly mashed up) and occasionally I'll add a hi hat and or floor tom for recording purposes. But the "core set up" of my kit is just bass, snare, and ride.

That is a nice Starclassic, back the in 90.'s Tama did a bunch of cool sparkle kits in Orange or turquoise. I decided a long time ago that if i could get any drum set i would go with a Tama or a DW custom kits are cool but i like the classics.

I keep a basic setup too. four piece kits with Zildjian cymbals. Just 13" A Custom hats, 16" and 18" a custom fast crashes, and a 21" A Sweet Ride. Extras include a 12" Wuhan splash and 16" Zildjian oriental china. I use these last two only occasionally. One tom, one floor, bass and snare. That's it, Basic basic basic. I have three kits right now. 1. I have a Tama silverstar kit in a jazz setup. (18, 12, 14, 14x5 snare)That's my jam out/ open mic portable kit. I'll either use the whole kit or do a Steve Jordan setup with just bass and snare and a couple cymbals. Birch and they sound great. I tune 'em lower for acoustic/ roots/ folks rock. Coated heads on this one. 2. My new regular kit is ludwig signet terabeats. (22, 10, 12, 16). I also upgraded to flat base hardware for this kit. So light it was totally worth it! (the difference in weight is amazing!) I don't use the 10" tom all the time, but sometimes I add it in for fun. Plus a Tama 1st Chair round throne. Clear heads. 3. My old kit is Mapex Pro M (22, 12,13,16, 14x5.5 snare)and full setup of hardware that came with it. Clear heads. And almost have a complete set of extra hardware now that I used before I just got the flat based stuff. Tama mid line hit hat and matching bass pedal and a PDP throne. My main two snares are: A used newer Tama rockstar snare found it in a local antiques market. $40 with a black kevlar head on it! hmmm. what was up with that? I use a coated Remo now and added Odery drums wood hoops. I like it. You'd think it was a more expensive drum and its sound really good for the price. I get tons of compliments on the wood hoops. They are rad looking and the rim clicks are sweet! (14X5.5) A 14 x5.5 Pearl Sensitone brass alloy. This one was bought new right after Pearl introduced the Sensitone series. It's been with me for a long time. New snare wires, new strainer (newer version of the old style, the old one wore out. Yeah love this snare that much!) some patina on the bottom edge, hidden by drum hoop. Bummed but the snare has been around. This is my old standby. Once it had the snare wires with couple bent ones snipped off, a hole worn in the snare side head where the clipped off snares rubbed, and the strainer which had a bent arm and was loose. I was too superstitious about the sound to touch anything, until I got smart and fixed it up nice. Moongel used when needed. I cut some up into little strips, so just do enough to muffle but not too much. and I pronounce Tama like you do most of the time. We're American after all. No disrespect , but it just comes out like"tam-ah".. lol.. I can try harder.. Just wanted to share what i use because I love hearing about what people use and like. Derek from Maine.

With regard to place names, we aussies would normally pronounce Montana as Montarna, but I am a firm believer in pronouncing words as the locals do, mainly out of respect, but also to avoid confusion when travelling or conversing. It also usually sounds better, anyway. With brand names, Tama being a Japanese based company, we all should pronounce the name the way the Japanese do, which is 'Tahmah'. Apparently, it is also an Italian word, pronounced the same way. Same with the Nikon camera brand- the Japanese pronounce it as 'Nikon', not Nykon' ( rhymes with nylon). My 20 cents worth.
