Dragonforce is my all time favorite band and I'm so thrilled with your reaction to them despite them not winning you over lol. The fact that the first note blew you back into your seat was priceless and was indeed the song's intension. For anyone who has a background in speed, death, trash metal and so forth, but also has an affinity for melody and musical prowess, Dragonforce is the band for you. If you can get used to their speed and ridiculousness, you'll find a fantastic use of melody, harmony, and musical intellect. They are simply amazing at what they do.
@dutchraider22 жыл бұрын
Yea it takes a little bit of getting used to, but I think dragonforce is actually one of those few bands that actually gets better the more you listen to them. I personally couldn't stand the high pitch voice at first but eventually I got used to it and now I actually like it (because honostly, for power metal bands this isn't even that high, considering...). Nowadays I can definitely listen to dragonforce while laying in bed and listen to the adventure that their music tries to convey through the complexity of their music. I simply couldn't care less if people call this 'too simple' because either it's not for me, or my brain can neatly fill in the gaps I need it to. Too bad that's not for everyone who listens to this :D. Their loss for missing out hehe. But to each their own taste. Everyone should definitely find a band or songs that they can also dream away on. It's an experience only music can bring you.
@kahwigulum2 жыл бұрын
Every Dragonforce song starts on C#. It's something they do and is part of their signature. Same with the lyric "so far away" which is most if not all of their songs. Edit: also every song is 200bpm. And yes, they can actually do this. This is a slow one for them.

I am having fun, Doug. You, as a hard-core veteran composer, are discovering music I know for many years. But to hear your professional comments is something new and interesting. For me, it is similar to Stephen Hawking's talks about quantum mechanics to an audience of "normal" people. I am not able to understand everything you say, but I am able to better understand how things are working in music. And for that, I want to thank you! As an old metal/rock-head I am having fun :))

This is the only music reaction channel worth watching. Someone who actually knows music theory and explains things. Seen so many reactions where people have nothing to say other then “wow, it’s amazing, I love it”. honest if he doesn’t like something and I love that.

Check out Elizabeth Zharkoff - @thecharismaticvoice. She focuses on vocal technique, and is a nice complement to Dr. Doug's theory.
"make sure they can actually do this" - haha - check out Herman Li's Twitch and the Dragonforce KZbin channel! He's just as impressive in real time!

Same as some of the comments I see. I also like that you share your true thoughts. I mean I listen to so many differents musics, and I KNOW I listen to some bad (or at least considered bad) music and it's just those guilty pleasures. We all have various sensibilities and aquaintances, which makes us humans. No one can ever love all sorts of musics without finally stumbling on something they don't like. Thanks for beeing honnest, recognising the technical abilities (which no one sane would ever contradict) the pros of the music, and simply saying "it's not for me". I now know why I'm here and still following you, while many react channels I stop after a while. Because I feel they just go the "easy road" of accepting averything, beeing nice to every song, just to get clicks. Big kudos to you Sir, stay safe, and keep up with your great job.

I respect authenticity so much, it's great you gave your honest opinion and still remained respectful. I am a fan of this band, and this song, but not this version. It was my first time hearing this version right along with you and I also didn't care for it. However, I can tell you that they can and do absolutely play this song live.

They're techically power metal, but I thought you'd not like them, they're known for their high BPM sound (usually over 200), lots of blast beats (double kick drum technique), faster guitar solos and a bit of retro videogames sounds, like chiptune music. They're definitely impressive, but melodically nothing out of ordinary. Also, the version you reacted, it's not the full studio recording version. And they can play this live, Herman Li (one the guitarists) has a Twitch channel and he shreds really hard live.
WOW, this was unexpected hahaha, NEXT THE CLAYVORYANT - IRON MAIDEN, PLEASE

I bought this album and maybe listened to it in it's entirety once. I was awed by them, but it was short lived. The term "less is more" really hits the nail on the head here. Great musicians, but it got kind of cheesy real quick.

Spent most of my life playing and listening to more extreme music than this haha. Totally cool that it's not your thing. I'd suggest you listen to more jazz based extreme metal. The Dillinger Escape Plan comes to mind. I agree that constant double bass can get obnoxious after a while. Plenty of extreme drummers that are very creative with how they use double bass though. You have similar opinions as many I've heard that aren't regular extreme metal listeners. You get overwhelmed by the speed even though you hear the music. I realized how to listen to the groove and musicality in extreme music when I was very young. (not directed at you) I always found it funny when someone would call a song noise when it was completely blues and classical based just sped up and distorted. All good though. It is what it is. Keep doing what you do! :D

Same here. Their style isn't for me, but I can absolutely appreciate the talent it takes to play at this level, and their showmanship. It's not in anyway a bad song either. It's clear and listenable, not just a ton of noise blasted at you. This one and a few others of theirs even end up in my rotation for long road drives.
@hafadude693 жыл бұрын
Its a song that grows on you. Reason being, there aren't many bands that can differentiate themselves from others. Many mainstream bands sound alike. It would be a really fun song to play. It has a lot of energy behind it and gets you pumped up and as you say, it is the speed at which it is played that amazes many fans.

I personally like Dragonforce and seen them live numerous times and yet I find your thoughts funny. No worries. The continual beat is what fans like the most! Their first two albums have lots of good songs with lots of variation.

Actualy, the thing that I like less is the drumming, and I adore listening to DragonForce. The band has such a positive energy in their sound, and I'm familiar with their speed. But when the drums begin to do that “tatatatatata”, it's very fast and is monotone, and I like the “tutatutatuta” much more. The drummer ability is unspeakable, but is like early Kreator's records: don't sound good.
@AvalancheUKOfficial3 жыл бұрын
@@JubaDeMetalAlumínio I agree and I prefer the singing and range in his voice. But where I like the light and shade, many power metal fans crave the blasting. Doesn’t bother me but I can see how off putting it can be to new listeners.
