I used to play bass at a church. At one point before a service while we were warming up and practicing a few songs i played a few seconds of Ancient Mariner just goofing around. At the end of the service as i was packing up my instrument somebody who i had never talked to walked up to me and asked 'was that Rime of the Ancient Mariner?" And i had been caught. Him and I became really good friends and even though he had since moved to another city we still keep up to this day!

Modern Metal is just a drone, but Iron Maiden is still terrifying. Terrifying in a fun kind of way, but then, I'm a fan Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. "Tocatta", and "Atropos", from "The Three Fates" are seriously more complicated, but not for the faint of heart. The same kind of people that call Maiden "simplistic" call ELP "presumptuous."

Their output since those albums wasn't quite to the same standard but no one can deny the writing power in this band and the musicianship is also incredible across their whole career.
