Rick Beato covered this yesterday. I don't think I remember seeing him more outraged. He was both disgusted and furious at the same time. He talks about the low ranking for Andy Summers at 250, Pat Metheny at 157, John McLaughlin at 72. And a long list of people left off the list: George Benson(Breezin'), Al De Meola(Go), Yngwie Malmsteen(neoclassical metal), Peter Frampton(Live), Neal Schon(Journey), Tommy Emmanuel(Acoustic Guitar God!), Joe Pass(Virtuoso; the CAGED System), Antônio Carlos Jobim(Bossa Nova/Jazz), Tom Schultz(Boston), Guthrie Govan(Asia), and finally: Allan Holdsworth(He's "THE GUY"; Holdsworth has been cited as an influence by a host of rock, metal and jazz guitarists such as Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Greg Howe, Shawn Lane, Richie Kotzen, John Petrucci, Alex Lifeson, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Romeo, Ty Tabor, Fredrik Thordendal, Daniel Mongrain, John Frusciante, and Tom Morello. Frank Zappa once lauded him as "one of the most interesting guys on guitar on the planet", while Robben Ford has said: "I think Allan Holdsworth is the John Coltrane of the guitar. I don't think anyone can do as much with the guitar as Allan Holdsworth can.") As for "Why is he on this List?": Neil Young. Beato: "This list is terrible. It's a joke."

Gary Moore? Les Paul? Richie Sambora? Don Felder? Joe Walsh? Jason Becker? Should all be on list. Imo Les Paul is number 2, but I think top 10 is fair and most would agree top 25. Dude innovated, inspired, played AMAZINGLY. Not only was he lightning quick and more perfect every time, he invented multitrack recording, invited the loop pedal, made a recording studio in his house so good that every top musician in the world wanted to use is, invented backing tracks, and ofc invented that guitar that a lot of people like. A lot of top musicians have signature guitars. Nobody has a signature guitar that’s so popular that other musicians use yours to make their signature guitar. People like Eric Johnson, Clapton, Van Halen, BB King to mention a few would be ecstatic and like a fan when he invited them on stage to play with him. Outside of his skills this credits a high spot imo

Chuck Berry was the inspiration among others for these young Brits, but Chuck stole a lot of things too the difference, is that people like Jeff Beck or Clapton or Page had no problem to say from who they drink the milk , but Chuck was Chuck and he was sneaky and he never said which guitar players influenced him, and if you don't say that is because you are afraid to letting people to know something that you don't want . I saw some time ago a vid that I can't link to you because it was some time ago but if I remember someone showed in a video where he drink the milk and it makes perfect sense , because music is like that , no one invents one genre of music by himself it comes from somewhere and evolves into something new or relatively different and then it's a new genre , but nobody invents nothing completely from zero.

I'm not a football (American) fan. But I've watched football with friends a few times. In one game there was a controversial play in which it was questionable as to whether the scoring player actually got the ball over the goal line before his shoulder touched down. Even the slow-mo replays didn't make it clear because of the camera angles. On Monday every football fan was arguing about. I wondered to myself, "Why didn't they place a camera right on the goal line at 90 degrees to the field? That would have made it clear!" Then it dawned on me that I'd answered my own question. That's WHY they didn't have a camera on the goal line at 90 degrees to the direction of play: They WANT people arguing about it to generate controversy and interest. Anyway, that's how these Rolling Stone guitar player lists work. No Wes Montgomery? No Andres Segovia? No Alan Holdsworth? Yep. Controversy is what they're after. Achievement unlocked. Yawn.

Tyler my friend, Steve Cropper was the guitar player of Booker T and the MGs which in turn was the house band for Memphis’ own Stax records which was the house that brought up a lot of big 60s soul acts. I was shocked that Johnny "Guitar" Watson was not on the list. He laid the groundwork for players to come like Hendrix, Sly Stone, Etta James and Stevie Ray Vaughan. His first record was released in 1952 and he continued to release them up to his death in 1996. You've probably heard a cover of his most famous song "Gangster of Love" even if you haven't ever actually heard anything by him. He started as a Doo-Wop player, toured with Little Richard and moved into funk in the 70s.

Yeah, imagine - plutonium theft, a DeLorean, a mad scientist and a cocky kid inspired Chuck Berry. At some point Chuck Berry probably told Gale and Zemeckis. They probably met at a bar hanging out with Huey Lewis when Berry walked up and asked for an autograph from Lewis as a joke and they in turn made a movie based on their curious findings. There of course was another story how Chuck Berry wrote the "Power of Love", but the people weren't ready yet for that so he shelved it and eventually gave it to Lewis after they almost had a collision with then teenage Flea (who was driving a delivery truck) while drag racing and Lewis told Berry that he knew because he read about it in the future due to being stuck in a weird fridge his old man once made.
