The way he talks makes me want to bull ride. Love the way he teaches. Has a way of communicating the do's and don'ts without being negative. Has a way of talking about the diversity, old ways, new ways, and his own ways without pushing a person to go in a particular direction. He just explains the realities and outcomes of doing things one way or another. So thorough to talk about the things a rider needed to know in order to figure out the kind of rider they wanted to be. You can tell how much pain and mistakes he made to pass on this information. Seems he was a unique combination of fool, humble, smart, quick, lucky, and experienced. Be nice if he lived long enough, but thank god there was video to preserve his wisdom.

Even if you don't watch Rodeos you still know who Lane Frost was. I listen to heavy metal music and my lifestyle is in that nature. I do live in Texas and had friends in high school, I graduated in 1988, that were big bull riding fans. One of them was a Frost fan in particular. When Lane passed away I couldn't believe it. Way too young. The movie was really good. They could have thrown in an AC/DC song or two. 😉Just kidding about that.

Read your Bible but start here first. Genesis 2:7 the text is that Adam was not given a nephesh but "became a living nephesh." Nephesh ... Think for a moment, if you already have an immortal soul then why do you need God? You already have something that lives forever inside of you, why would you need a relationship with God? The Spirit that is in you is God Himself. You have no Spirit of your own. The Soul is not of the metaphysical. The Soul is something that has to be breathing and living. As exemplified in Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the BREATH OF LIFE, and man BECAME A LIVING SOUL. Notice the words BREATH, LIFE, LIVING= SOUL. And not BREATH, LIFE, LIVING= DEATH. As exemplified in Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sins, IT SHALL DIE. To some preachers die means you are somehow still alive in some way, But to the Word of God, it means you are dead and you don't exist in any form or realm spiritual or otherwise. Humans are made from dust Gen 2:7; 3:19. We are not spirits living in a body of flesh. We are physical creatures, so no part of us survives death. When we die, our brain dies too, and our thoughts perish. Thus, Lazuras said nothing about his experience of death because the dead are unconscious. Psalms 146:4 Lord of Lords, 1Ti 6:16 Who ONLY hath immortality, only God has an immortal soul. Not man. When ppl say we have a soul is wrong. Scripture state that we BECAME a living soul. Gen 2:7. I think ppl say we have an immortal soul in just a desperate attempt to uphold (eternal torment.) 1 Corinthians 15:52-54 We are not immortal! We die, the Bible refers to sleep plain and simple. Study to make yourself worthy of the truth. If hell is as painful as Christians believe it to be, then the time will certainly come when the souls there will think they have had enough and repent and go back to God.”

I wish I would have known about this video back when I was riding bulls (about 20 years ago). I bought just about every video tape (yep, back before DVDs) put out at the time, but definitely don't remember seeing this one. Anybody interested in the sport should definitely watch and study this video, repeatedly. Lane gives some of the most sound advice I've ever seen in this video. Oh yeah, you should also be prepared to ride as many bulls as possible. I literally used to ride anywhere from 10 to 20 bulls a day, 6 days a week. And I still felt like it wasn't enough practice. You should also know that there is a lot more to winning rodeos than just making the whistle. To actually win any money in bull riding, you have to be GOOD. Me personally? I wasn't that good. It wasn't a matter of heart or guts. I definitely didn't lack in either of those areas. Partially, I think it just didn't come as natural to me as most guys in the sport. For one, I'm a little on the tall side at 6 feet tall. There are some fairly tall bull riders, but the vast majority of your greatest bull riders are on the shorter side. I'm not making any excuses, just saying one of the things that certainly wasn't in my favor. I looked up to guys like Lane Frost, Tuff Hedeman, Jim Sharp, Cody Lambert, Don Gay, etc., and primarily list Lane as being the one who got me interested in bull riding. Another thing that kind of worked against me was the fact that I also rode bareback broncs. It's a totally different sport with totally different forms and styles of riding. Again, not making excuses, just saying that it didn't do me any favors when I'd climb off of a horse and jump on the back of a bull (especially when I would forget to switch out the rowels on my spurs from one event to the other...never try to ride a bull with bareback rowels). The last piece of advice I could give a young guy wanting to get into this sport...do it while you're young. In fact, the younger, the better. I am originally from Florida. We had no high school rodeo in my area. If you're serious about bull riding, I highly suggest you get started by (or before) high school. If your school doesn't have a rodeo team, you should seriously try to talk your parents into moving somewhere that does. If you're going to listen to even one thing that I have said here, let it be this: If you're SERIOUS about riding bulls, go for it. If you're not, do NOT. It's literally as addictive as any drug on the planet. And it will destroy your body, your family (if you let it), your bank account (if you're not consistently WINNING rodeos), and many other aspects of your life. Rodeo (especially the PRCA - I was never in the PBR and don't think I would've gotten into that even if I were ranked high enough to make it on that circuit) is one of the greatest things in the world. But it can break you in more ways than one. Take it from a guy who just turned 42 and has felt like an 86 year-old man for the past 15 years. There are days where it's all I can do to get out of the bed. And forget ever being able to run around and play football (my other longtime love) with your kids. My shoulders are shot (both of them), I've broken just about every rib in my body (most of them have been broken at least twice each), my knees are pretty much useless today, my ankle, and most importantly...my back. That is pretty much beyond repair. Get used to breaking your nose, getting black eyes, concussions, getting teeth knocked out (I was one of the lucky ones there, still have all of mine), and TONS of little "shaving scars" all over your face. If you STILL want to ride bulls after reading that last paragraph, I say you should go for it. Just don't say you weren't warned. I wish you the best of luck and may God be with you. Oh yeah, and make sure you get ALL the safety equipment available today. One thing I disagree with Lane on here, is what he said about chaps. I saw a kid ride ONE bull (in his entire life) and he refused to wear my chaps (he didn't have any). The bull literally stomped right through his thigh. It looked like hamburger meat. He was literally carried out of the arena in a helicopter. Had to take a life flight ride on a chopper to the hospital where he wound up having numerous surgeries and therapy to learn how to walk again. Even though I've never ridden a bull without them, I learned that night that chaps are an absolute necessity in bull riding.

Great advice ,Rodeo period can break you in more ways than you can imagine. When I was 25 I broke my back when I got bucked off of a colt . 25 minutes early I told my dad that there isn't a horse alive that could buck me off when he was warning me that this horse bucks harder that most . He actually fired when he bucked meaning his back feet kick up over his back. I ended up going over his head and landed on my shoulders but broke my lower back. I didn't realize my back was broke because I hurt in my hip so I got back on and rode for a few months never hurting in my back just in my hip. 7 surgeries over 20 years and an addiction to pain killers I finally am able to have a normal life. I took my last Oxicontin on May 28th 2018 (against my Dr's advice) and my back feels great.
