Those 74F646 multiplexers get toasty. I recall reading a note from Chucky somewhere that he recommends a alternative IC that will run cooler. I've seen mine tickle the max operating range of about 70c. Good thing is there's also a 12v fan header on that side of the board. I've crammed an 80mm fan held in place with double-sided tape on that side of the daughter board to pull in cool air to that area. I'm not sure passive radiators alone will make a difference.

ah thanks for the clarification . yeah chucky mentioned these do run hot . I used 74FCT646 as they run cooler but they still get plenty warm. not quite as hot as 74f646 though so I should be ok without a fan... (pro will use one anyway when i get to the point of using a case :) )

That is a really beautiful board. Amazing recreation boards are avaliable new in 2024 due to the dedicated community members. Those brown PLCC84 sockets trigger my OCD. They should be black to match the PCB IMO!

haha yeah. it's all I had on hand for the ICs . plan is to have it in a case so color won't mater in the long run :)

Nice to see this getting there. Ollie if ever you get one of those chip testers it'll be interesting to see if it detects the error on that ram chip.
