I posted this question at the ETCG forum, and he replied, stating that the valvetrain is simply worn out. I sent back a queston asking if the 2.2 is prone to oil starvation, which I suspect is what causes it.

if im not mistaken, the B18C1 is swapped out for a B18C5 and a different trans with shorter gearing, 5 lug bold pattern, better brakes, seats, i believe a shorter shift throw, steering wheel, all the red emblems, alloy Type R wheels, also the VTEC engagement point on the 2 engines is different, the GS-R hits VTEC at 4400-4500rpms, the Type R is like 5800rpms, no sunroof on the Type R, was only sold in 2 colors in North America, Pheonix/Sunlight Yellow, and Championship White

Awesome video Eric, I just adjusted my valves on my 2000 honda crv, it has a B20Z engine in it and i heard B series engine is notorious about valve adjustments, my valves sound like a sewing machine now and i put it to the factory's lowest spec but in return on doing so i have been getting improved gas mileage overall and it is doing awesome! Also I heard the looser it is on the valve train the better it is especially high performance cars. Correct me if I'm wrong. Keep up the great work.

You should make a video about asking the customer the right questions or their leaving out critical information when asked. I just had a customer today that said the car just shut down on the road for "no reason" I found later the tow truck driver had put the full size spare on because the owner blew the tire after sliding sideways into a curb around probably 20 mph. That was the moment when the fuel pump dislodged inside a near empty tank and the car stopped for "no reason"

the front brake calipers of the Integra Type R shares the same part numbers as the front brake calipers of a Honda Accord, Odyssey and amongst many other Honda cars. The rear brake calipers of the Type R are the same size as an RSX rear calipers for clarification.

We had a 93 Corolla, (5spd, 1.6 4AFE) in the family since new. It had the DOHC with the shims over the valves. The manual recommended valve adjustments at 30K miles. My family NEVER had those valves adjusted. Never had the head off, never had the valve stem seals replaced, nor rings. Near the end of its life, at 18 years old and 360K miles, and burning a quart of oil every 1K miles, it finally burned an exhaust valve. We junked it. I think we did OK without adjusting the valves...

The one thing adjusting the valves in my 96 GS-R did do was allow it to pass smog. Before the adjustment, it wouldn't pass. Don't remember what exactly was measuring off but it was pretty bad. Didn't notice any performance improvement after the adjustment, other than the big smile on my face.

Not sure what you mean at 2:40 where you say lifters/cams must be replaced as a set, and the cam spins the lifter. On all the lifters I've worked on (though not many) the lifter was in the rocker arm pushing on the valve. I don't know how the cam would "spin" it.

Eric, what about 4-cyl S-10's? Specifically, the ones from the 90's with the 2.2 liter 4. I've heard many of those trucks with their valvetrains clicking and clacking BADLY, but they run fine. This engine should, as you mentioned, have hydraulic lifters, so why so much noise? Just severe wear?

Biggest and easiest way to tell a type r from any other integra. The vin should start out with: JH4DC231 Red stitching interior No sun/moon roof b18c5 engine Typer R logo on rear quarter panel will be paint under the clear coat. NOT A STICKER Red lines at i beleive 8200rpm (correct me if im wrong please) Always 2 door 5 speed This is coming from a huge integra fan :) if im wrong id like to know too so let me hear it haha
