Re-designing BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2017)

The live-action adaptation of Disney's Beauty & the Beast... has some icky design choices. Let's fix that.

I was so flabbergasted when I learned they were gonna do the beast practical but switched to CGI. The props they had look so great what the heck was wrong with them?? The CGI model looks way too human-ish and soft, like you explained perfectly. Beast is supposed to look like this mix of all kinds of animals, almost like a chimaera. This is especially apparent in his face, but his body as well (they forgot that too, his body is way too humanoid). If I remember correctly: - brow bridge of a gorilla - nose, ears, horns and face shape of a buffalo - mane of a lion - facial hair of a goat (beard) - upper body of a bear - lower body of a wolf The only bodypart of him that was still human were his eyes. And this is crucial since not only are eyes windows to the soul, but it's how Belle recognized him when turned back into a man. BTW your dress for Belle is gorgeous!

Perhaps this was done to kind of combat the idea of beastiality. If he looks more human to the audience, the implications are less disturbing.

All in all, the 2014 remake of the 1946 Belle et La Bete was superior! Great sets and chemistry between Lea Seydoux and Vicent Cassell! The Costume designer was Pierre-Yves Gayraud, and he did a fantastic job! His designs were less historical and more fantastical I love the pale gold/yellow number, especially! I wish the 2017 remake of Disney's Beauty and the Beast was just as spectacular as Disney's version was influenced by Cocteau's version!

I love the 2014 version of beauty and the beast, it would be like that, in fact I was doing a journal of the story except if the other live action Disney characters were in it Dumbo Miss peregrine's home Simba Alice in wonderland Wrinkle in time And young maleficent as lily to be the cursed fairy to dark fey daughter of the beast but originally the daughter of the mistress of evil herself!!!❤

Them going full cgi for the beast was such a terrible decision. The Practical effect beast looked so GOOD. And yeah, Belle’s dress is such a travesty to my eyes.

If you want to hear my costume design ideas for the Sleeping Beauty/Maleficent remake, the Tangled remake, The Snow White remake, and the Princess and the Frog remake, you can leave a comment! I'll be inspired by different periods/designs! For Aurora/Briar Rose, Maleficent, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, I would take inspiration from the Victorian era/Art Nouveau teagowns and Artistic Dress! I want these characters to be dressed like they're in a Pre-Raphaelite painting by Millais or William Hunt!

Agree since with the first point of view was the dress could have been look it tach as an yellowish gold with dust crystal, and yii the scene in the library could have included some more light and color design in the library room. Hopefully that now Disney designers and costume makers should how full indeed meke things better for further future love action film.

I believe Belle yellow dress needed some work on it. But it far better than the little mermaid pink dress they really did halley and injustice. Right now disney in hot water for rachel zeglar mouth is the ridiculous statements she does be spewing. I hope is true that jenna Ortega is replacing her as snow white.

To my understanding, those rumors are just rumors, with Rachel making a joke about it: "the rumors are true...I'm only 3 apples tall." And I wish Ariel's green dress got more attention; it's far better than the pink dress she's always marketed in. And I think Cinderella's dress is so iconic since Sandy Powell put her own spin in on, and it worked because the OG dress is simple (yet effective), but she's in a tough sppt since Snow White's dress is multicolored and has a unique design.

I love your re-designs and ideas for the live action Beauty and the Beast. I didn't dislike the dress Belle wore to the dance, but it did feel like it was missing something. I do prefer your design of Belle's gown, however one thing I would change is the corset as the color can be a bit distracting so I would suggest keep the initial design but change the color of the outer part of the corset to match the dress color a bit more, while the middle part you could go with cream color or a darker shade with gold roses embroidered on it to make it stand out. Belle should also have lace gloves to match the original, but not necessary. This is just my opinion though. Love your videos btw, I hope you could continue on making them.

Thank you for mentioning that Belle's gown should have been GOLD not yellow. I think if would have worked a bit better if they had taken inspiration from how the stage version brought that particular look to life. As for the Beast, the 2014 french adaptation is a great example of how a mixture of make up, prosthetics and a dash of CGI works a hell of a lot better than just CGI. The thing with Mrs. Potts' design (and most of the enchanted objects') is that they took the live action medium as an opportunity to bring these characters to life as they were originally designed for the animated original.

I would've used a mid-Victorian evening silhouette for the gown, with pale gold/yellow lace for the Bertha neckline! Belle's dress could've been brocade, with pale yellow/gold rose designs all over the amply full skirt, limiting the use of CGI!! Belle's Village ensemble was perfect! I nearly screamed aloud in the theater "It has pockets!" It seemed accurate, and appropriate to Belle's character to carry her books in large and separate pockets, Belle could've even made them herself! I would've loved a lightly curled hairstyle similar to the one used in the redesign of Belle in 2012, add rose red lipstick and pale gold shimmery eyeshadow, used lightly on the lids! I love the idea of a rose pendant! The overreliance on CGI brought the artistry down a peg! I felt the castle was splendidly gothic and offputting, especially in the West Wing! Sorry, I have a lot to say about the design of Belle's ballgown, I'm very passionate about my disappointment with Jacqueline Durran's lackluster designs for the main dress!

OH MY DISNEY!!!!! There is nothing wrong with Belle’s yellow dress in the Live action remake of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. It’s so beautiful and stunning. It’s my favorite Disney dress. I own a expensive, custom made version of it (😁🤭🤗😍🥰) which I love to death and wear a lot.
