I'm sorry.. when you develop a product and work with a manufacturer, you sign off on the ingredients. There's an FDA sheet that lists every ingredient. This is a total cop out on their part by blaming someone else. A great marketer obviously wrote the rebuttal on their website to try to sweep this under the rug. Imagine if Coca-Cola told you that it only had half a gram of sugar in it and you found out it had a hundred times more than that. This is exactly why we need complete transparency in labeling. People that were intermittent fasting drank this first thing in the morning thinking it was the right thing to do, not knowing it was spiking their blood sugar and breaking their fast. This is completely unacceptable and I feel these "lawsuits" will never be heard of again.... If they hadn't been exposed, you would have never known... So for those of us who wish to completely avoid sugar we need to know if a product has maltodextrin etc and if it’s hidden behind ‘natural flavouring’ we are not fully informed. @@stvcolwill I buy real sea salt in bulk. I buy local honey with the comb and pure maple syrup from local sources. I buy whole leaf tea from a small business based in Japan. Ginger root is produce, you can see very obviously it’s just ginger. I never said we should make our own sea salt. To that point, you’d have to create the universe and oceans first, and I’m not god. If you really wanted to “grow your own electrolytes”, you could grow just celery and spinach. You’d have to grow and eat a lot of it every day, but that would provide sodium, chloride, magnesium, potassium and calcium. You could make it easier by adding tomatoes, lettuce, sweet potatoes, and peppers, broccoli or any citrus fruit. Add eggs or meat and you could live off of that. My point was that we should focus on whole, real food. A measured amount of single ingredient, whole food sold in a bottle, box or bag is very different from chemically processed powders, plastic-lined cans of vegetables, and shelf-stable meal kits that make up most of a typical grocery store’s offerings. Those are usually loaded with refined oils and an assortment of synthetic or chemically treated ingredients. They will eventually cause disease.
@w1975b3 күн бұрын
@@sl1456 Everyone also has a different definition for what "real" food is, though. And that's another problem. Some people understand that animal foods are real food for humans, while other people will consider plants as food for us. It would be more accurate to say there are levels to how bad things are for humans. The highly processed things are obviously toward the top level of being bad, but plants in general are also on that list because they naturally contain (without processing) things which are detrimental to human health (antinutrients, fiber, fructose, too much glucose).
@sl14563 күн бұрын
@@w1975b I understand what you’re saying, but if someone is eating a diet with sufficient calories, fat and protein, any negative effects of plants would be absolutely minimal, if any. Unless, I suppose, if someone is truly allergic or consumes one food item in large enough quantities. As with most things, moderation is key. I do not subscribe to the idea that refined oils and most convenience foods can be healthy in moderation. I understand many here would disagree.

“Natural flavorings” can be just about anything like MSG because it derived from sugar beets which are grown in the dirt. There is an MSG Lobby in DC that makes sure label laws are flawed so they can get paid by billion dollar chemical companies. It will never end. In fact labeling laws say that the “macros” can be 20% off due to the nature of natural products - they vary. The only people that should be flipping out are doe eyed youngings. Everyone has to grow up at some point. 🤗

Also included in the INCORRECT labels is "calories" on everything. Humans can NEVER consume or access calories, which are JUST A MEASUREMENT OF HEAT as a result of placing something in a machine called a bomb calorimeter and BURNING IT WITH FIRE. Humans don't create fire inside their bodies, period. We use stomach acid and enzymes to break things down into carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. I have said this to many people and most of them come back with the INCORRECT parroted claim that it's valid as a measurement of energy humans consume. IT'S NOT in any way, shape or form. Humans consume mass (grams of carbs, protein, fat). Our bodies then convert the carbs or protein into glucose and the fat into ketones, given the correct circumstances (no ketones if consuming too many carbs, for one). The human body uses glucose or ketones for energy, again period.

I hate that maltodextrin is so ridiculously prolific in our food sources, but I LOVE this perspective and the effort to expound on different potential sides to the issue. So many people feel like they have to skewer any company that appears to have been deceptive (and I understand why - b/c so many are intentionally deceptive) but sometimes companies are unfairly targeted because people are so reactive with little or mistaken information - and I don't have any affiliation with LMNT whatsoever. Even though you're open about getting paid by them, as someone who has fought my own health battles (and have accepted the reality that not all toxins can be avoided all of the time) I believe that you are speaking truth as you see it and appreciate the push back toward the haters. It's easy for people to criticize from the cheap seats (Brene Brown). Flavors and fragrances have been synthetic chemical landmines for a loooong time, and I believe that LMNT wasn't aware of it and/or they wanted to increase their own awareness and decided to be open with the public. I'm going to choose to trust them, even though I tend to be pretty cynical toward food companies, because I do feel like LMNT has been part of the movement of people that want to move away from the nonsense of the mainstream food industry, and I'm willing to give them another chance. Like you said - because of the proprietary nonsense with flavors (and fragrances), many companies don't know what all is in their own products and I applaud their efforts in trying to be honest and make things better. I also hope for more foot stomping and the demand that pushes flavor and fragrance companies in positive directions for health. But I also question some of the behind the scenes of those who may be targeting them wanting to take them down. There is a whole load of shady behind the scenes stuff that happens when big food feels like someone is digging into their profits or changing mindsets of consumers. But, I'm also not trying to fuel the fire of conspiracy theories because paranoid people are just as dangerous sometimes as the companies that may be conspiring. I also love the suggestion of donating the supply that people may want to get rid of. These are first world problems, and there are people even in the US living sub first world because of poverty and other challenges. I would still take LMNT over most any other electrolyte drink out there, even though I look forward to when they hopefully work out dumping maltodextrin from the ingredient list altogether. If a low income family were to take up drinking LMNT over soda, they could see a dramatic increase in their health! So, I hope people will think about donating it too if they don't want to consume the maltodextrin.

As we dive deeper into understanding the food we consume, it becomes clear that industry regulations and labeling laws shape what we see on packaging. Some regulations even limit the disclosure of certain ingredients under terms like 'natural flavors.' Ultimately, the responsibility to be informed lies with us, the consumers. Reaching out directly to companies can be insightful, though it's worth noting they may only be able to share limited information. In the case of LMNT, I appreciate that they conducted a third-party test and shared those results on their website. However, my one reservation is that this information was embedded in a blog post that you had to know about to find, rather than directly communicated to consumers. The inclusion of 0.4g vs the previously stated 4mg of maltodextrin may or may not be a concern for you personally. As I mentioned in my video, it's not my place to advise whether anyone should continue using the product; that’s a choice we each need to make for ourselves. Thank you Nili for making this video. You're one of my favorites in the community! ❤❤❤

my wife is T2D and has been drinking the flavored LMNT. She does not have spikes in her glucose because of it. We had some issues with insurance and a new Dr that caused my wife to be without meds for about 3 months. Her fasting glucose right before her meds were finally approved was over 500 mg/DL. that was just 7 weeks ago. She has been eating 95% carnivore and using LMNT for the past 5 weeks. Her glucose this morning was 95. She was on ozempic for 5 weeks and that was removed by her Dr. she takes a shot at night and her dr said to use 6 units of it. She is only using 2. LMNT has not hurt her nor has it affected her glucose. If it has she would have been using the Raw LMNT like i use. So unless you are having an bad reaction to it and are following a no carb diet, relax. I found the information on LMNT website before i heard anything on youtube. I researched it prior to ever letting my wife use it. some of you all act like LMNT is putting 2 or 3 tablespoons full in their packets. 1/4 teaspoon to 1/2 teaspoon? once a day or once every few days. Do you own due diligence when starting a new product. research it.

There is a huge difference between 4 and 400 mg! I was having a reaction to it but always pushed it off as something else since I believed & trusted this company. Maybe it won’t adversely effect a metabolically healthy person, but as a former diabetic who’s A1c is now in the pre diabetic zone, I feel betrayed! What if they put 400 mg of some kind of drug in the formula and didn’t disclose that? It says “zero sugar hydration”on the packaging. If I knew it contained any kind of sugar, I wouldn’t have ever used it, let alone for over a year. I’ve been sugar free/ keto for 10 years. I believe I have the choice of what I allow inside my body & that choice was stolen from me! I’m not angry at you but if you think the head of a company is not apprised of the concentration of the ingredients in his products, you are mistaken.
