Join me in this vlog as I switch things up in the border beside my shed and recycle some wood to make a new bench ready for my seedlings in the polytunnel. We'll talk about shade loving plants such as climbing hydrangeas and a new 'pest' that I find in the soil.

I enjoyed this. Great window box renovation, it looks very attractive. I'll share an "oops rule" we hold to at work... if you make a mistake but catch it yourself before anyone else does, and then fix it, it doesn't count as a mistake. It becomes a learning experience and counts to your credit. Feel free make use of it if you wish. 🍀

Hi you ended up with a table leg of 90 cm, yes? then that would be 90cm x 2 = 180cm which was the length of the first pieces of wood you bought if im not mistaken but hey ho thats life 😂😂 I love the replanted raised bed next to the shed very pretty 👍 Perhaps some of the grasses could go in the dahlia bed to provide some interest after the dahlia tuber are removed for the winter.

Thanks for sharing your garden! The hydrangea between the grass clumps looks perfect! A good way to stabilize your table would be to tack on a ~35 cm wide piece of plywood connecting the two back legs. (Or any wide board). I’ve been building tables in my greenhouse too , 60x120cm, for flooding trays of about the same size. Got 4 trays, 3 already set up. One end drains into my sump tank or water trough and the opposite side has a 1.25cm hose securely attached for water input. Got 3 10 gallon grow bags (woven from recycled plastic) which sit in about 3-4 cm. of water. Got potatoes, yams and a dahlia and ginger planted in them. The trays are topped off with expanded clay pellets in which I have planted strawberries. I filled the bottom of the grow bags with perlite to about the height of the water in the tray, then compost and potting soil half filling the bag. Will fill them as the potatoes sprout and grow. Harvesting my worm compost for castings. Got 5 trays of them. 2 done and 3 to go. Still have a couple of wicking beds outside the greenhouse currently covered in snow. Sun is out so should melt by later today, but won’t plant them until later in April (mid April is average last freeze). Got tomato, squash, & pepper seedlings waiting in the greenhouse for warmer nights for these beds. All of my dirt beds are wicking beds; they are the most efficient in water usage. A thick layer of mulch keeps evaporation to a minimum, with only loss through the plants transpiration. Perfect for the desert. Our last snow storm has topped off all my water tanks. Ready for summer!

Sure, I have a saw I maybe could have used but with the fork method you prise the roots away from each other rather than cutting them. Makes for a quicker recovery, faster growth and less chance of them not succeeding due to damage. 👍🏻

If you put a diagonal piece of wood from the front leg to the back that should help reduce the wobbling a bit (but if you've seen my build quality you might want to get a second opinion on that ;) ) Looks like a great bit of potting space!

So your original pieces of wood at 180 cms would have been fine, one cut giving you two legs of 90cms from each piece, it turned out fine though 😉Enjoying your vlogs learn something new with each video. Going have go at growing potatoes in tubs this year, and adding a few dahlias to the garden, been over 50 years since I last grew dahlias.

Hello Love, What a fantastic fun video. So much information and activity.I really liked the replanting under the window of the shed. The most fun was the building of the work bench. It was so cute that you showed the wrong size post when you measured it. So many folks would cut that so they only show all the perfect parts. You did fix and finish the working bench and I love the rustic look it looks perfect. A lower shelf with help stability and give place for storage of supplies. Thank you for a fabulous video take care bye for now

Because it is a 'bummer', few may not appreciate that there is a kind of 'perfect storm' globally that is causing food prices to escalate rapidly. There are many reasons that this is occurring, and that this situation will not be temporary condition. In fact, the price for fuel and everything else is becoming unhinged. I will be expanding my garden so that at least I will not need to buy much at the store. This is one way that one can mitigate the rising cost of living. I also recommend the KZbin channel, Ice Age Farmer. I mention all this because I care....

Absolutely lovely. To help the top last, after it dries out thoroughly this summer, saturate it in a veggie oil of any kind. I'll attempt to get potatoes started early this year by putting some in buckets off the ground and simply covering them with poly. And I've start to cobble together a green house.

Getton!, as they say down 'ere in the South West. Just recently found your channel. As a self employed gardener whom also has an allotment (sometimes I wonder!) I fully appreciate the work / allotment balance. Also living in a city with no garden slightly more advanced in years than your good self, I still muchly enjoy the relative peace of the allotment. Mine was a six foot mess three years ago, couch grass and bramble added to bindweed and red ants all sound familiar. One does like one's hellebores doesn't one. Anyhoo your plot is wonderful, in an amazing place and your soil looks delicious, mine has taken three years to finally get going. Biggest achievements so far, the loo planter and poly/shed that took some head scratching and about 8 quid, used willow and hazel from the site for bendy roof! Take care and enjoy the spring! That was great. Your newly worked ornamental box bed is really nice. Personally I would have kept that box the way you had it arranged the first time, lol. Still, what a nice showpiece for your garden. Strengthen your work bench up by adding short diagonal supports in the top corners. Adding boards for a bottom shelf will sturdy the whole thing up too. Good job! Thanks for sharing your video! Enjoy the spring! Cheers!

Those vine weevil are a pain. I didn't know much about them until they destroyed all my Astilbe and Heuchera in my shade bed. The plants just fell off in my hand at surface level. I didn't find them as grubs but as pupa, they looked like tiny white alien creatures. Disgustingly fascinating but frustrating. Love the grassy texture added to your shade bed, I'm inspired to add some to mine now too. I've got a over grown Acorus(?) languishing in a pot that desperately needs separating so that may just work - I've had it about 5 years in full sun the poor thing, before learning it likes to be near water and in shade. I'll be sticking the rest in my wildlife pond!
