Mega dope conversation. Love keeping it honest with nostalgic classics.

First time listener, found this through Murph - this was a great podcast! I actually loved how big/vast Hyrule Field felt when I played it as a kid, because it felt like I had so so much left to explore 💖Great show, sub'd!

How did y’all hone in on Metacritic’s top 10? As of the day this was posted, Metacritic’s 4-15 all have a 97.

We did fudge it very slightly - we went with the order they’re displayed on Metacritic (however it's determined?) for all of the 97s, except we swapped Prime in over GTA5 for number 10, just because it was a game we were much more familiar with.

Awesome stuff here! I want to share my personal scoring metric for games because I’d be interested in seeing how you guys rate things to a standard. I use a 5 category system, 1-10, to score a game out of 50. For most games the categories are: Engagement - How easy it is to pick up and sink time into. Do you want to keep playing? Or does it constantly give you opportunities and reasons to quit? Polish - everything from UI, to art style and aesthetic, to controls and graphical fidelity. Is it pleasing to look at and play, or are things overlooked? Story/World - Does it have an identity? Do you remember what happens in it? Is it a place you’d love to visit or live in? Or is it just interesting and memorable. Longevity - Has it left an impact on you? Do you keep going back to it and enjoying it? Has it left a legacy in the industry? Do you expect it will? Personal - just free points for how you feel personally about it. It may be sentimental or just something you loved despite all its flaws. That’s just how I do it. It helps me sort out games against each other to find what I value most. Great stuff again, keep it up!

It would be very interesting for us to think about this and developed our own (subjectively objective) review scores. We love your rubric, it’s got us thinking!

maybe it’s just because im younger but ocarina doesn’t hold up for me, everything it does i find more enjoyable in breath of the wild but i do recognize its still really influential and whatnot

i do not wanna come off as one of those rdr2 people but geez. 92 for metroid and 76 for rdr2? insane it's probably the opposite i'd rate it lol and rating a borderline unplayable game almost the same as possibly the most well written game of all time 😭 and also, i never got the hype with mario galaxy. it was... ok?

I’m ngl I think we were way too easy on Perfect Dark 😅

I hate the recent RDR2 slander. It's an all-timer.
