The Gamecube was so amazing! RE4 was my favorite game for the system, but Killer 7 is my pick for underrated gem. It wasn't exclusive, but it ran with much faster load times and less grainy graphics on the GC over the PS2. Great episode! I'm excited to see a Dreamcast episode!

Talking about the controller: The button placement was golden for the gamecube because it was the hayday of 3d platformers / action adventure games with simple imputs. Having 1 primary button has it's issues in other genres of games that have gotten bigger since the gamecube. Any action rpg or action fighter that has more system depth than "each button does 1 simple thing". As soon as you quickly need to swap between button prompts on a regular basis quickly, the gamecube's button layout starts to be less ideal. (Also, FINALLY someone else that thinks the Wii U gamepad / pro controller layout is the ideal layout.)

There's so many great games on the gamecube that I grew up with. Kirby Airride, Chibi robo, Paper mario, Mario Sunshine, SSX Tricky, LoZ: Windwaker, etc. I think people that grew up on those games definitely had their taste in games heavily influenced to enjoy the weird and wacky. The fact that the wii largely used the gamecube's internals shows how much power it was packing if it wasn't held back by the minidisc storage capacity. When it comes to game library, I think the Wii actually gives the gamecube a run for its money. Wii Sports and Wii Sports resort was the best tech demo for motion controls and, Mario Galaxy series took 3d mario to a completely new level. I'll fight people that Skyward Sword was an amazing zelda experience because the gyroscope controls were amazing at the time (and better than the switch port). Pikmin finally had a control scheme that made sense for a psudo-RTS, we saw the return of 2d mario to consoles with the "New" super mario bros games before it was done to death. Xenoblade Chronicles was a masterclass RPG and was one of the first markers that the West was ready for the more weird and niche JRPGs. Super Paper Mario was genuinely a sleeper hit with an amazing story and really weird and interesting game play.
