Re-roping a 2:1 underslung elevator. Schindler 400A

This video was taken halfway in completion of replacing the traction ropes. It’s quite the setup and fairly complicated, but in short you support the counterweight, then hoist the car up a few inches, then use the old rope to pull in a new one. The process takes 3 guys a long day to complete on a short rise elevator.

Wow, one challenging job and no machine room floor to stand on. From what I'm able to see of the machine, it appears to be gear-less. Is there also a compensating sheave on the counterweight? A few years ago at a 12 story parking garage two Otis Gen 2 MRL's underwent updates/mods with their sheaves. Originally, the cab had two sets of hoist ropes one passed over the driven sheave, the 2nd over a set of compensating sheaves, top of the shaft above the machine down to the compensated counterweight. It was entirely re-roped, where the ropes passed under sheaves at the top of the cab (like an under-sling) Ends of ropes from machine and weight terminated in the hitch plates top of the hoist way.

Vlad, it’s about 10 years old. The original ropes were worn and starting to show some broken wires.
