This was so helpful. I need to restock my mat so I bought those high tack attachment sheets, well it may have been help to know I needed to attach it with some kind of glue. Good thing it comes in a 4 pack.

Excellent tutorial! I have watched Sandra at cresteinspain's videos but did not remember her mentioning that all the registration marks are not necessary. I got my SDX125 machine through Facebook Marketplace. (It took about a year to find one this way, but it was worth the wait) Mine came with a 12x24" mat and a Joy size Cricut mat that she said she placed on top the the 12 x 24" Brother mat. I didn't think it would work since it only had a few of the registration marks on it (exactly like you showed in method #1)and so I ordered the 12" x 12" SDX mat. Now i can see she was right. I cant wait to purchase some 12" x 12" Hobby Lobby Paper Studio mats to have on hand when my mat goes. Looking forward to watching more of your tutorials on the Scan n Cut!

I'm a new Scan n cut SDX 125 user since Jan, 2023. I noticed how upon using the included boxed project the mat got permanently marked. I thought how over time these cut marks would eventually weaken these expensive mats. At lot of concern is placed on the stickiness and rightfully so. I had discovered Create of Spain's hack, but I really like Debbie's 3 hacks better. People should have options that work as Debbie has demonstrated. I focus on Debbie's first option. With the Brother mats being so expensive, Debbie's option 1 keeps the mats pristine condition. The cut marks and loss of stickiness will affect the very affordable multi item pack mats that can be easily replaced while your original expensive Brother mat stay in mint condition. This $$ saving hack makes me happy. As for the fear of auto blade function, I have noticed that placement of the mat as shown by Debbie is genius! The hack mat goes right under the registration mark. When the blade drops to measure depth, it's falling and nicking the hack mat, therefore measuring that the level is on the hack mat and its performance is not compromised. My proof of this is from a birthday door decorated in my daughter's bedroom. I made a Birthday card with 250gsm holographic, metallic, glitter cardstock successfully with this first hack option. The few cut marks are on the low tack hack mat only that I used. These mats are available in various stickiness and colors and bundles. My favorite is the clear color mat. I can create with money saving confidence and have fun. I even have my emboss mat on a hack mat since this type of mat is not so easily exchangeable with every use.

I believe the issue with spray or any type of DIY retacking is about getting adhesive outside of the original area as this can then transfer onto the rollers causing issues

I might try the mat method since I purchased a cricut mat years ago when I started card making. I thought it was a work mat and didn't really know about the cutting mats. I have the scan n cut sdx125 also, and I ruined it my first time when my cardstock got stuck to it. I scrubbed it off, but then the tacky wore off soon after.
@DonnaJo3452
@DonnaJo3452 2 жыл бұрын
You didn’t ruin it! Just run the mat under water for a second enough to get it wet and the paper can be easily lightly scraped off without removing the glue.
@giggityq853
@giggityq853 Жыл бұрын
For the pink mat method, wouldn't it be easier to apply the adhesive to the back of the mat? You wouldn't have to worry about getting glue on the SNC mat outside the area of the pink mat, which can cause problems.

Thanks for this, very interesting video. Just so you know the spatula that can comes with the snc works way better than those metal ones because it's much thinner and so easily gets under the paper. People think it's just cheap plastic but it's not, it's very strong. If I ever lost mine I'd get another one. I don't think I'd do the first method as I wouldn't want to risk messing up the auto blade function. Probably will just stick to method 3 because the mats eventually wear out anyway, like the edge problems for loading. I may try the contact paper one on an old mat just because I like to experiment. I've had my current one for about a year and plan on replacing it soon. It's hard now to get it to load. I did try using packing tape to reinforce the loading edge, didn't really help though. Really wish some kind innovative person would make cheap knockoffs like they do for cricut. I guess the patent clock has to be run out before that can happen.
@WendyColeArt

@@DebbieJsCraftingCorner no, it's the same for all the machines. I tried a thin metal one and it just doesn't work as well. I never have to bend my mat to get things off using the white one. I'm so frustrated by these darn crappy mats. I shopped for a new one on Amazon and they are 31.00! I paid 18.00 for my last one last year and I'm just furious!

A mat should last more than a week! Are you sure it didn't lose stick because of dust/fibre from your paper or material? Don't forget to clean it from time to time, most people use baby wipes

@DebbieJsCraftingCorner
@DebbieJsCraftingCorner Жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry that it took me so long to answer.... and the reason is that I don't know. I haven't used if for fabric. I would assume that the fabric mat would work. That being said, the only thing I'm pretty dissatisfied with on my SNC is that the mats lose their stickiness way too fast, and replacements are so expensive. Hence the reason to restick them every so often. I use paper, and the paper fibers may be why the stick goes away so fast. I have heard that some folks use contact paper for use with fabric. I plan on using my SNC more in 2023, so I'll be doing some research on this. This is a fantastic question. Please remind me if I haven't put up a video with a solution within the next couple of months. It really sucks that this doesn't work better.

@DebbieJsCraftingCorner

That may be the best solution. I just came across a video where someone uses a tacky glue for cutting out cardstock instead of trying to restick the mat all the time. I bet that a temporary fabric adhesive would work for your issue. Give it a try and let me know if it helps!

I also have another question if you wouldn’t mind ? I received a scan n cut mat just for copying and it’s not reading it and rejecting it . Are there more than one kind for various scan n cut machines ?
@DebbieJsCraftingCorner
@DebbieJsCraftingCorner Жыл бұрын
it's possible. check the mat and machine to see if they are compatible. Some mats will only work with some machines. When I got my SDX with an autoblade, none of the mats for my previous machine would work in it because they changed the markings at the top of the mat. If it is the correct mat for the machine and it still won't work, contact Brother. I had an issue a couple of years ago and it turned out there was a bad batch of mats. They sent me a replacement. Even if it's not an issue with the mat, they may have a suggestion for making it work.

Thanks! To be honest, I need to use my ScanNCut more. It's a fantastic machine. But, I don't have as much time to just play... most of my crafting is on camera and I'm still working on a better setup for recording the SNC. I'll have to do a follow up video to see how each has held up over time since this last video. Anyway... I like each for different reasons. The pink mat seems to stay sticky. The glue method is simple and easy to re-do. And the contact paper gave me real good results the last time... when I used a brown contact paper. In the video, I re-did it in clear... and I think the clear may not have been adhered well enough, or it was too sticky. I turned out that the contact paper STUCK to my cutouts... and it took a while to see it, because they were clear. Also, I couldn't see where the mat wasn't sticky anymore for the next use... because some of the CLEAR contact paper was missing from the mat. Considering how much time I fiddled with it, (time = money) I think this one cost me more in time than buying a new mat was worth.

However, when I go to canvasworkplace.brother.com it does not show the file under my Projects. Weird, but I just watched Sandra’s video last night! I couldn’t get any of the items to work properly but will contact her. I don’t mean to encroach on your methods but I had just typed the below for something else and thought I’d add it here. Let me know if you want me to remove it! I’m going to try your methods too! “I restick my mats with Zig 2-way Glue Jumbo stick. I spread it on and let it dry. It’s a temporary adhesion then. (This method was originally on the internet in a Jen Blousey video. She’s an excellent SNC video source. She’s a different kind of person but she knows the SNC inside and out, literally. She takes hers apart to repair it! She is a brusque person and tells it like it is but she is extremely kind. She’s had health problems for 2 years and hasn’t been doing many videos.) Just today I put card stock on imy mat without de-stickifying it some with my hands. (Man, some of the words we crafters come up with!) I removed as much of the card stock as I could then ran it under the faucet just enough to get it wet. I was able to lightly scrape off the remaining paper without removing all of the sticky. Next time I need to restick my mats I’m going to use this method. I think that will be easier and less time consuming that putting glue remover on it.”
