A fun project Re-Webbing a Porch Swing that had seen better days! It took longer than anticipated, and much more webbing than I had. Please join me in my creative process. This is a bit off from my usual videos, but I wanted to share with you!
Note: If you are looking for the materials, search for "lawn chair webbing" online, or go to a home improvement store. Look through my video and see the brands I found, mostly at yard sales. The web is about 2.25 inch wide. Some new packs come 39 feet long or 72 feet long. It can be hard to find!

Love this video, i have the same problem. The only thing i need to know is how to measure the length of the strips.
@thePacadashery
@thePacadashery 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lucia, thank you for watching! To measure, I made a sample strip first. I took the end of the web and folded the end, wrapped it around the frame and put a temporary stick in it to hold it. Then I brought it where it needed to be and did the same on the other end, and added about an inch for the weaving ease. Marked it, then took it off and measured it. I marked that length on the next piece, then cut the first one. I put the first one on for real, and checked for size. You want it to be snug. If it fits, use that length. You can adjust and cut as you go along so you don't run out un-necessarily. Have fun with it!

@thePacadashery
@thePacadashery Жыл бұрын
Sorry just saw your comment, txtornado2007. I did not have holes in my frame, so did not want to compromise the integrity of the metal by drilling. If your chairs have holes, there is little metal pin you use to replace the webbing, it is much easier. I do not have a video for that, but I'm sure you can find one. And my bolt arrangement works well, but I'm finding the newer webbing is inferior to the old poly, and can rot after a couple seasons. I recommend finding the best webbing you can, not the "plastic" ones that are out there. Thx for watching, and your comment!
@linden5576

This is pretty cool. You can also punch tiny hole through it and add grommets and then screw through the tiny little grommets was not to get a bunch of pressure on the actual fabric. I remember these chairs from the 70s😅 I was researching on doing the same exact thing to a swing chair that I haven’t purchased yet! Lol😅 Going to purchase a swing chair, but I’m going over every inch of the frame and researching to find out which ones the sturdiest if the fabric wears out what alternative can I use for the frame etc. I’m thinking about one of the polls. What could I do?😅 Take gas, piper water pipe with the right elbows and angles you could make your own swing chair frame! Also, you can buy just the swing chair frames similar to what you have and then you buy whatever wing you want whether it’s chains or rope, etc. then you can have a wooden one one like your building a metal one or old-fashioned one from the 70s there’s so many different Ways that you can DIY a project once you have the basic concept. I’m looking for one to put on my 14 x 16 A frame covered deck , my deck is like a huge oversized gazebo! But it’s attached to my home 👍 great video although this was many years ago it still helped in 2024🙌
@thePacadashery
@thePacadashery 2 ай бұрын
Thanks @linden5576! You have a creative and inquisitive mind! Putting grommets on may not be necessary, if you push the threads of webbing aside, and not break them, the screws and nuts with washers hold very well. The most important thing is to buy the best webbing possible. Heavy duty fabric strapping may work, but might stretch out over time. The cheaper stuff I bought rotted out in 2 years. I do plan to make an update video, hopefully soon. Please watch for that. Enjoy your project!

Hi Tanna, thanks for watching, and your comment. I would avoid cutting the webbing with a hole punch, or melting it with a soldering tool, because that would weaken the material. I just spread the fabric to make the hole, keeping it intact.

What happens to the webbing when 2 adults sit on it? Does it work or does the screws rip out of the webbing? Did it last a season with people sitting on it? No whare can I find the result when people sit on it to use it, tho nice idea to fix - but did it work as intended?

Hi JamesJer Clare! Thank you for watching, and your questions. Yes, it did work wonderfully, just as intended. 2 people could sit on it just fine. No, it did not rip out at the screws. BUT, after 2 seasons out in harsh elements, the cheaper webbing started to rot. And so it ripped again, but not on the screw holes. I am planning to post a video showing what happened. Thank you for reminding me. The screws held completely, but the web they make now days is a plastic that can't last. The older web that was polyurethane is still fine. Use quality, it will survive. @@johnhohlt5342 Thank you so much John! Your compliments make me feel much better! It's a hard process to create videos, and I am grateful my content is helpful to you. I knew there are very few re-web videos out there so I felt I needed to share my version. The swing is strong and will last for quite a while now!

If you have a 10 min attention span, that's your problem. I watched the whole thing and enjoyed it! Great video. I'll be repairing mine this spring.
