The comment is rude, but I kinda undserstand the frustration. There’s some really odd things said here, so I guess I’d just like to ask Kish a few questions. 1. why did you think return by death was confusing? Season 1 makes it extremely clear that Subaru doesn’t understand why he has it, or how it works. That’s the whole point of nearly every conflict. It’s THE core mystery of the story. Why can’t he tell people about it? Why does the save point go to the point it does? What causes it to update? Why does he smell like the witch (giant plot point you didn’t mention at all)? Why does he hear the witches voice? These are all huge hints that we are not supposed to understand return by death. 2. How did you not understand Subarus relationship with death? It’s extremely situational, but he clearly hates dying. Why is he traumatized sometimes and not others? It’s because sometimes he dies painlessly and other times he dies while learning a horrible truth, experiencing crazy pain, or learning of something he doesn’t think he can prevent. And sometimes he thinks his death could genuinely solve the issue. He also doesn’t know how many times he can die, if he’ll go back too far, and more. Having those he values lose their relationship with him is very painful. 3. What made you think the series was like Tokyo ghoul? Other than it having psychological elements, i was genuinely baffled by that assertion. 4. Why did you think the characters randomly liked Subaru? The ones he got to like him, were through him forming genuine bonds and showing them his good sides (remember they only remember his successful loops) and there are a ton of characters that completely crap on Subaru or who couldn’t care less about him. It was a very strange point. I guess those were my main issues with the video, but I understand that you only saw the season once, so maybe re-watches will help. Last thing, you really have to pay attention in season 2. There’s way more to keep track of and there are a few content cuts/ small mistakes in the anime that make some things more confusing than they are supposed to be. Also the crystals in season 2 kinda suck. Honestly. Other than that though, if you really pay attention to the dialogue, season 2 makes a lot of sense and is REALLY good. But if you missed some stuff this season, I’m a little concerned about season 2 since it’s a lot more complicated. Good luck man. I hope you enjoy it

@@SilverSaw988 1. Maybe confusing was the wrong wording but I felt there should have been some time spent at least implying how he saves 2. I think that's pretty fair but in the situation I was talking about it would have been really important for him to die because it was life or death for him and Emilia, and I'm a little bit into Season 2 and he did exactly that for REM 3. I think they're very similar in terms of how they treat they're main characters which is why most of the video was centered around kenaki and Subaru 4. I still feel like characters take a liking to Subaru for little reason that being said them only remembering his successful runs is something I should of thought about more Tbh I was watching the first like ~11 episodes at a decent pace and literally binged the rest of the series in one day and then wrote the script for this on the same day so I probably did rush and should have watched some other peoples Re:Zero Season 1 videos but it's hard to look that up without getting season 2 spoilers good comment tho boss

⁠@@4chigi4have you not watched season 2? an entire plot point in there for his character is that he stops caring for his own life because hes so willing to die. he does in fact get used to it. and its presented as an entirely negative thing because this is a psychological show. its not a battle shonen where the mc gets more badass, its more about self love and appreciating life. so no, subaru should not get used to death entirely. the pain death brings, from a physical and mental perspective, is something no human could ever get used to. we are hard wired to fear death. and while subaru does get used to dying, he does not get used to the pain it brings or the horrible ends he has to witness. which is very much a good thing, subaru is a very loving person who is full of life. he shouldn’t get used to it entirely. season 1 he fears death because hes not used to it, i promise you he does in fact grow more resilient to dying and pain. but he never takes a life for granted. im not sure why you expect him to get used to it AFTER A COUPLE DEATHS. Do you not see how ridiculous that sounds?

Didn't watch the video, but most people I know miss when Subaru mentions it a couple of times: he doesn't know the limit of Return by Death, or how many resets he has. That's why Season 1, Episode 7 is so impactful because Subaru could not live with Ram's hatred and did this, even though it could be his last Return by Death.

For Suicde in mansion arc that actually hold more weight than what anime only know, first of all initially subaru actually thought his power work like video game character, where he only have 3 chance/3 life for each loop, and that exactly the number he died when fight elsa. But in mansion he uses all of his chance without getting any clue what happen and without have plan how to solve it, this genuinely make him so scared he ended ask beatrice to hiding him until the day of his death passing. So for people that said "subaru is not scared with his death" no he not, he scared with his own death, the reason why he is fine because he know he will not die, and that what satella scene in arc 4 have more weight.

I found the adaptation to be actually extremely good. Biggest problem being the Al cut content, but that should get brought up in S3 anyhow. Also, I don't remember if the [Ryuzu spoiler] was shown. Other than that, there weren't many important things cut out (then again, it's been awhile since I read the earlier books, so maybe my memory sucks). Mushoku Tensei is quite a masterpiece. A LOT of cut content, unfortunately. A LOT. Still, it includes most of the important parts, and an anime-only probably wouldn't know what they missed.

Something about Subaru being a sage candidate(not really all that important right now). Some monulogue that made it clear that roswal was responsible for the elsa attack in episode 1. some interactions between subaru and emila were cut out The echidna resurrection was also cut out. I get a lot of your points because you were only watching season 1. It kinda feels lazy to say that but by just watching Season 2, a couple of your complaints will be answered. Also, this Story is reallyyy long, like as you said season 1 really was only the Prologue. Therefore, a lot of question will get answered eventually over time. And for the last two points: I think you can't really argue about the artstyle, some people like it, some don't therefore I don't really complain as it's your opinion. The direction on the other hand is something that has been critiqued before and I feel like to some degree rightfully so. Funnily enough the complaints you had about season 1 aren't actually something that bothered me but yeah, season 2 had some production and direction issues, partially caused due to Covid. Edit: While Season will definitely give an answer to some of your questions and complaints it'll throw like 100 more questions at you so yeah, be prepared lmao... However when it comes to where Return by Death comes from it's pretty plainly spelled out to the audience who's responsible, and by the end of season one it tells the audience that while Return by Death is something only Subaru can use. It doesn’t mean he can control it. Hence the save points aren't something he can control. The only part he has any control over is when he dies.

Tbf All the Cons you mentioned like how they should have fleshed the politics a bit more were executed perfectly in the Novel and each Candidate had their fair share of time it's just at that point Whitefox wasn't sure about the success and continuation of the series so they were hesitant to introduce more plot points to the story and wanted to wrap up season 1 by introducing as little plot points as possible even the "Who is rem?" scene wasn't included in the orignal season 1 and it was only included in the after credits of director cut.

Alright biggest rezero meat rider here, So lemme explain the ability stuff you had an issue with without touching s2. Basically in season one there's alot of refrences to a character called the witch satella, and she's hinted at from basically episode one and is something people should be aware of by the episode 5 i think. Idr when but I'm pretty sure rem explains that she doesent trust him because he had the scent of the witch, and at that moment it's pretty obvious that satella is the reason for his issues since later we see the scent get stronger with each death and the things associated with satella notice the scent. Long story short its a curse from a (basically) God. Now about subarus dying. This is easy, he just needs a reason to do things. Subaru does not kill himself for no reason or if he fucks up because the anime shows how much it hurts. Subaru feels every bit of pain, sees every face, feels every emotion ofcourse he doesent wanna die. It's a mental scar expanded on in s2.

Actually, the EX novels for Re:Zero have several side stories all told from the perspectives of different characters. Wilhelm and Theresia have 2 whole volumes dedicated to them which also chronicle the events of a civil war with the demi-humans in Lugunica 50 years prior to Subaru's arrival.

About the politics side of things and their regions, i'm pretty sure they introduce them later on. There are a lot of hints about Subaru's death ability, qith the witches smell all over him. To be fair, are explanations of why an isekai protagonist gets his powers ever really that satisfying? Since there's no way to explain them scientifically, most authors who do bother just tend to go with something like a god gave them to him or that it's part of the prophecy of the hero or something. ​​​hmm, not always, i have seen alot of MT fans who don't like re:zero. Re:zero is my favourite anime but i get it if some don't like it as it isn't your typical isekai. This is just my personal take, but i feel like re:zero characters are more complex than those in MT(not that the characters are bad in MT or anything, but just that they are easier to understand). Mushuko tensei is probably easier to like since even if you are not vibing with the characters, the world is still interesting, but re:zero main thing is it's characters, if you aren't vibing with them then you probably won't enjoy it as much, except if you just simply like shows with violence. After all the biggest reasons i see re:zero haters give is subaru is a simp or why doesn't subaru use RBD to get stronger or learn multiple spells or re:zero is dumb. At that point it's an issue with them not understanding the series.

Why do you assume Subaru DIED outside the store? Notice that he looks both ways before crossing the street... then gets isekaied before his first step! "He has no trouble killing himself." I may be remembering wrong but he killed himself *once* in season one. (and once he begged Julius to kill him) Ref killing himself for a second chance... he doesn't know when the "save point" will be. It changes from time to time and he doesn't know why. Ref s1 vs s2. s1 has the most peak moments. s2 is the better season overall.

re zero is a slow burner, a lot of details and world building are revealed over time. you can already tell it is, but the story is also just more focused on the characters. the little bit of lore is really nice. theres also a season 2 which does a lot of good things, and some okay things. production was pretty meh there. im not sure how you dislike the art style tho… the animation and character designs were pretty stellar in season 1. the directing was phenomenal and unique compared to other anime. VA work was great, music was great. pacing felt nice. i genuinely dont understand how you had some complaints about it when it was pretty damn good. re zero has some of the most inoffensive art and designs, not even in a boring way the designer for RZ is just that good. i also dont think a story is required to give you answers this early. the lore and world building are only one part of the story, a very minor one. i feel like episode 18 either makes the story click for you or it doesn’t. that was the moment i realized re zero wasnt your typical isekai about saving the world. its a story about the characters, self love, and moving forward. each arc has a very personal and isolated story that very naturally builds up to being something more important. but at the end of it, it was mostly about the characters overcoming a personal flaw or insecurity. or something about love and its effects on yourself and the ones around you. thats why i dont mind how slow the world building can be. or why i dont mind there not being a direct “plot”. its why re zero is still such an interesting anime for so many people despite this. because when you see that ghe characters ARE the plot, then everything works together so well. people have this expectation for anime, isekai, and fantasy to fulfill some greater story or purpose. some fantastical goal, but re zero is more grounded. if thats not something you like the thats understandable. some people do just want big stories with big goals. but subaru has always been a character that dreamed small. its just that the series is slowly building up his character and achievements. he started out small, by the end of season he accomplished big things. and that continues into the rest of the series.

By the way, there is ab it of foreshadowing about overusing Return By Death, when Rem Mentions she smells more and more like the witch of Envy , and. while the anime doesn't show it , Subaru DOES in fact start using RBD a lot during the White whale Arc, the anime just skipped that because it only foreshadowed stuff for season 2 (specifically Beatrice's viewpoint)... If I remember correctly, he arrived several times at the ending where Beatrice sends him away from the Mansion and dies to Betelgeuse... you wil lhave way more questions after season 2 lol, just not the same ones.

@@Outerdebt3-on6fv Compared to Mushoku Tensei, yes. Because Re:Zero novel is 5x better than Mushoku novel, it shouldn't even be debate that Re:Zero is superior than Mushoku but here we are. First season adapts 9 volumes, imagine the cut.

If you haven't watched season 2 yet, then your points make sense. Season 2 reaches that depth and brings much more depth. Also what you don't get is that Subaru is depressed and borderline suicidal before being brought to the world. So the hesitation with using his ability does make sense reliatically. Also Rem is overrated. Season 3 will tackle that political stuff and ACTION. Just watch season 2 and tell us what you think then. Good vid tho. Also, it really helps to watch Re:Zero through Subaru's perspective. It changes the entire show.
