@@Kelibarth Oh yeah!! I included Minerva because in the canon route, she’s the one who interrupts Echidna and Subaru’s contract. She’s the one who appears and tells him it’s a bad idea. Her significance in Kasaneru IS the fact that she doesn’t appear-or at least, those were my thoughts while I was making this!

He also seems to have an interested in a book that Roswaal had, which was one of the things that Witch cult needs, if I remember correctly

Greed IF is definitely one of the saddest ifs. Subaru has to go through millions of deaths to get through everything by himself, but he never gets his happy ending. Emilia’s broken, Beatrice is depressed, Reinhard is depressed, Garfiel is resentful, Ram is cold and distant, only Roswaal and Echidna are happy.

I guess that really depends on how long it takes to get from one checkpoint to another, it makes a big difference if it's daily, weekly or every few hours. I guess that 270 000 years makes sense with daily checkpoints, but we can't confirm it was always the case.

I’m pretty sure the checkpoints are pretty recent if he’s not in a life threatening situation, like when he killer himself to try and go back to save Rem. The only reason he goes back multiple days is if he needs to go back that far to be safe.

It's implied deep down that Subaru knew he made the wrong choice to accept Echidna's offer - which is what further motivates his desire to be inhumanely perfect in the eyes of his friends (right down to correctly guessing the weather - which mildly surprised Echidna at one point when she and Subaru spoke again at the end of the story). It's gotten to where he feels "I dug myself in too far, might as well go further."

Re:Zero is the only series that makes me go from, "wow, these first episodes of the arc are so cool, everything is chill, a lot of interesting dialog and interactions between characters" to "How did everything degenerate into this, my boy Subaru only wanted something to eat from the convenience store" while reading it, this happens to me in every arc however this if story makes that feeling even stronger, it pains me a lot to see Subaru in such a state, i mean in the other if routes at least he has a bit of control over what's going on, but here? My respects to slothbaru though, he got the girl and formed a happy family, good for him.

@@srimanjha5112 - at least Greed knows who he is and has some sort of guidance - he is achieving his goals with the price being the complete lack of self-worth and the Emilia camp never solving their own problems like Emilia never getting over her childhood trauma or Garfiel coming to terms with his past. (that's partly the reason why Otto left, because Subaru took everything on himself). As for Gluttony, he doesn't even realise he IS the real Natsuki Subaru and it is quite obvious to the audience that Gluttony's plan to read all the books of the dead is doomed to fail from the start.

On the other hand we have Subaru who is living with the false notion that once "Subaru" is complete, he will fix everything. So he goes and kills everyone and reads their book in order to become "himself", but it doesn't do shit and never will. I am just amazed how Subaru is always on the brisk of taking the wrong decision but ends up doing the right thing 🙏🏻🙏🏻👌🏼

This is really good! I especially like the part where Subaru is holding his hand out for the butterfly. It can be seen as him accepting Echidna's contract. On the other hand it can be seen as his willingness to die using it as a tool as butterfly's can be seen as symbol for death as well

Butterfly is not as much a symbol of death, as of rebirth, change, renewal and hope. Come to think of it, in the S2 ED you can see Beatrice reaching for a butterfly, but it doesn't land on her hand, implying the future rejects her.

Everybody is safe and will continue to be safe because Subaru gave up. He did not give up and stop, he gave up his freedom and feelings for the sake that everybody is alive and in some distorted way...in peace. Everybody is not happy and Subaru is also not happy. Hell, is Echidna even happy, "Why must love fade?". even as Omega she did not feel any great sensation in being "alive" and sensing things again. Whether she has Subaru to clear all the routes of the world like a player from a VN or becoming Omega....is she really happy? I'm pretty sure nobody is happy. I bet even Rosawal is not happy, he just is delusional that he is. Everybody is safe, everybody will continue to move on in peace, but without being happy.

@Iamfromvjetnam Hmm, this is from a LN series. Although more specific this side story comes from a tweet the author gives every April first on Subaru’s birthday. They are a basically what ifs? What if Subaru would have given up on the moral way and decided for the sin. Each what if story is a cardinal sin like greed. This specific what if is the Greed route. They are also little easter eggs and foreshadow of future events.

Reading this if story after finishing the trumphant ending of arc 4 is so nauseating, sad, horrible and nauseating again. He'll eventually gets whatever he would want, but not what he really was after, a future where everyone, including him, could smile genuinely and be a happy ending. Great animatic!

well he is succesful, no matter which opponent, no matter how bad the situation, he will safe everyone, by sacrificing his humanity, his self worth, he become worse than any villain could ever be, by the time we reach the original greed if subaru is already are old man, unable to smile with in his friends, the people he actually cared about are empty shells, he has reinhard, but still feels guilty to what he did to felt and how it crushed reinhard, he has this guilt over all his decisions that he made, the thought alone that he may have made a mistake terrifies him to his soul, therefore allowing him to dig deeper into that destructive terrifying act for dying, he doesnt care anymore

The author stated in one of his QnA's once that Greed IF Subaru would never be able to wake Rem up from what I remember. I think because he'd never be able to find Gluttony no matter what he or Echidna tried. None of the IF end except for Pride where Subaru actually does die. Sloth IF seems like it has an ending but when Subaru dies of old age he'll just be return by death back to the appa stand. That's why he never dies once in Sloth IF. Aganau IF showed him returning by death 20 years back into the past and in another QnA the author stated Pride was the only IF he stayed dead because Subaru has to fulfil the goal of the person making him Return by Death which is either Satella or Subaru himself when he said he'd "absolutely save Emilia".
