@@subtorren4928 the author once said that Mushoku Tensei was just the prequel for the story he really wants to write, so you can expect a sequel series in the future. For now though you can read redundancy, jobless oblige and old dragon's tale as it might contain some info on how the future sequel might go, as it essentially setups the future of the series lol.

"What subaru was seeking was growth rather than redemption" I feel like you couldn't have put this any better. I've been trying to figure out how to best differentiate Subaru and Rudeus at their core but this nails it. I'm anime only for both shows but this feels very accurate despite me being barely through both stories.

I think it's a distinction without much difference to be honest. What is the underpinning of both seeking growth and seeking redemption if not wanting to go from sets of circumstances that are judged as undesirable or less desirable to ones judged as more desirable for yourself or those around you. Seeking growth is another way to communicate a desire for change without accentuating the undesirability you have participated, it's more implied. They ultimatley denote the same description just in differing ways.

I've spent most of my free time this past month watching Mushoku Tensei content and discussing things in the comment section. This video absolutely made my day. I've seen some comparison videos before but most of them take the route of this one thing is better in MT than Re0 and vice versa. And none of those videos went as in depth as yours did either. Great video, I'm already looking forward to any future MT content.

Both are amazing series with several strengths. I have a preference for Re Zero because It resonates more with me. Getting isekai, traveling to a new country, escaping to virtual or new world will not solve your issues, it just brings your problems to new place. In the world of Re Zero You can’t just power up or level up like a game to get what you want while ignoring your core issues and trauma. Every single time that Subaru makes a mistake he gets no pass and gets punished. Over and over until he learns from his mistake and grows as a person. That what I like about the series so much. It makes every win that Subaru gets well deserved and earned. Subaru might be “weak” in terms of raw power, but little by little he is getting stronger as a person. Which is what I consider “real strength.” Funny enough I consider Re Zero to be the “anti-isekai” Isekai anime. You can’t escape your problems no matter where you go, it will follow you until you acknowledged and face it.That is how you grow stronger and hopefully happier.

I'm heavily baised towards Rezero but mushoku is definitely a goated anime. It's definitely in my top three Isekai alongwith Konosuba.🤔 And the only reason why there's a war between it's fandoms is because how good both the series are, nobody's gonna complain if someone said, "smartphone Isekai is better than Rezero" because he'd be a certified clown that no one would wanna pay attention to 🤣 but when it comes to these two, their fandoms feel threatened by the presence of the other one because they know they've got some good competition against each other. So I don't see a problem here, it'll make both the series want to be at their A game all the time.🤣

I think one key difference between the two stories is the metaphysical aspect. MT believes that if you take the most rotten person you can think of and give them a fresh start, some training wheels and a push in the right direction, they can turn their life around and become an upstanding human being. That is very much the underpinning assumption of the whole story and a very usual take when it comes to isekai stories (tough many of them were copying MT in this regard). Re:Zero, on the other hand, almost feels like a rebuttal to a story it technically precedes when it posits that giving someone with a rotten personality a fresh start and a push in the right direction is just the prelude to their vices taking over and leading them to the exact place they came from, like how Subaru leaves his truant life behind only to become a shut-in at the mansion in Arc 2. Tappei believes that only when you clear all the junk in your head through introspection and opening up to those around you can you actually become that upstanding human being. Before that, you can get as many redos as you wish, it won't save you in the long run. Neither stance is necessarily false, though I think Tappei's is a better message to the target audience. I think every social outcast have probably thought some variation of "being isekai'd would be pretty neat, I could start over and lead a more fullfiling life", that's why the genre is popular, but Tappei bring you back to reality by saying actually you'd probably crash and burn even quicker in an isekai world so instead of looking for fantasy to save you, start working on self betterment. It's not comforting, like the MT formula, but I think it's a good lesson to learn. That said, you made some interesting points I hadn't considered, particularly the part about family VS found family, so it was an interesting watch!

I personally have been more so Team Mushoku. I find the subjective 1st person of Mushoku a bit more interesting to read as we get a real unfiltered look into his thoughts and what makes Rudeus well Rudeus. Him being an absolutely disgusting and down right hypocritical person in many aspects early on was quite refreshing and a bold move by the author imho. As most authors are often too afraid to start with such an unlikeable protagonist due to it's innate risks (as we have seen especially with the anime adaptation). I think it was worth it though as it really makes his later development into the kind empathetic man deep inside all the more cathartic. Additionally due to the duality and the innate flaws of the characters as well as the consistent logic of the world Mushoku on the whole feels more grounded than Re;Zero to me which is something that is a huge personal preference in stories of even fictional nature. I also have a soft spot for family wholesomeness and drama so that also tips the scales a bit more and makes the emotional beats all the stronger for me because we see how much he has to lose. It just checked allot of personal boxes and despite being someone who often dislikes the vast majority of the Isekai genre I found myself loving Mushoku as a story.
@NatalieXHunter
@NatalieXHunter 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree all of those are good things, I'm just not so into the family wholesomeness stuff or emotional family scenes (I'm probably the only Re:Zero fan who found Subaru's trial of the past to be a bit boring in the WN, and wanted it to get back to Echidna and the plot a bit sooner haha!), and MT kind of needs to have a lot of that. It's probably just that I don't have a very big family myself (I'm an only child and my mom is dead, so my close family is literally just my dad) so I don't really relate to having those kinds of complicated or intense feelings around family as an adult, so I prefer to see stuff about friends and whatnot - totally a personal taste thing.

1h7min of incredibly well writen and well presented analysis. Personally, i'm a huge fan of how MT connects all his characters. I understand how it makes the world smaller, or erode the suspension of disbelief, but to me, the world was still so vast and immersive that it could afford a hit. On the flip side, it makes the characters so much more anchored in their world. Everyone has parents, old friends, maybe siblings, uncles, cousins, nephews, etc. They had a vibrant life before coming in the story and will have a vibrant life even after the story ends. It really plays into how each side characters feel like the protagonist of their own story..

I can't really compare these two. I find Mushoku Tensei to be more grounded to reality despite being a fantasy. The lore and world building are just really detailed, and the writing is so consistent that I find it really hard to criticize it. I like how Rezero depicts terror like when betelgeuse showed Subaru Rem's body being mangled and when Subaru's head got cut off while holding Rem's dead body and then the episode just ends like that. That gave me goosebumps. It was just executed so well.
@christianboi7690

Man, I love the world building of Re:zero and all of the mysteries in it are so fun to ruminate on. The anime is a bit more focused on the immediate plot though, so I guess it’s harder to get into the world. Also, they cut out a lot of the character conversations from the novel making the characters feel less nuanced because we don’t get to see a lot of the dialogue heavy scenes. It’s a little upsetting because good character building takes time, but I guess if they focus too heavy on the talking and don’t jump to the action scenes, then they won’t retain a large audience, I guess. Anyway, that’s why I prefer the novels, but I’m hoping that next season is better because it’s very action heavy. We won’t get to hear characters inner thought and rationalizations and get as much of a sense of who they are, but if they do it right with the directing (I think the Re:Zero director is pretty good.) and music then maybe they can convey the emotions and emotions of the characters well enough. I’ve felt really hesitant to get into Mushoku Tensai (no idea how to spell it) because I just hate fan service and inappropriate stuff and I also hate overpowered main characters generally. I remember I read the manga a few years before it came out and immediately he became insanely overpowered, arrogant, and lecherous, and I just don’t want to see that. A lot of people online seem head over heels for it though and it’s making me consider watching the anime, but even if he goes through a journey, that doesn’t make what they show in the manga (and anime probably) any more tenable. Maybe he does redeem himself, but I don’t want to be a part of the degeneracy just so I can see the progress. Re:Zero has its moments that I think are a little stupid and anime tropie, but nothing too stupid or inappropriate. You gotta take the bad with the good, but sometimes you just don’t want to jump into that pit. I’ll take the plunge though and watch the first two episodes to see if There’s gold underneath the crud they expect you to wade through and hopefully not enjoy. I’ve seen stuff like that in other anime and in a context that your supposed to enjoy it or something and I just hate it. I don’t know. Is it worth it? Are the scenes portrayed in a way that makes the audience rightfully uncomfortable with it or is it played for laughs? With my viewpoint clear, should I watch it?

It's a bit on my part, but a small correction regarding reincarnation in Bookworm: the MC did reincarnate as a baby in the new world. It's just her memories and "ego" from her previous life only came to her at the moment of her new self's death due to sickness. The burst of the now unlocked memories is what gave her enough willpower to not fully die (since her sickness is tied to magic and aggravated by a lack of will), and from then on her old world "ego" is what she identifies as, rather than the new "dead" one. That small and honestly unimportant comment aside, great video. I just had the urge to explain.

Re:Zero was the first web novel I read so I have a soft spot for it. I love the mysteries it asks the reader and the unique perspective of the main character. That being said, I read MT after the anime came out and I would have to say, from the conventional story structure elements like plot, setting, and characterization, it is simply more polished. There are a couple of flaws I had a problem with in Re:Zero. First, it is too dialogue-heavy. This is a common problem when an author has a complex plot but has not worked out the plot threads with enough certainty so that he or she can show the audience through the characters' actions. The common "show" don't "tell" problem. MT read more like Tolkien in that the lore was both more immersive and clearly plotted before the pen was put to paper. This makes me afraid that Re:Zero will not be able to tie the many plot threads in a satisfactory manner. MT was easy in this respect because the plot was Rudy's redemption. Another problem I had with Re:Zero that I only really began to notice after I watched MT was the failure to adequately show the reader Subaru's back story. I am an older reader so teenage angst simply doesn't click but anyone who is older can relate to opportunities missed and the incessant doubt about whether they lived a good life. Finally, return by death has one big problem. It asks the reader to repeat settings over and over which I found honestly tiring. In this aspect, MT borrowed from Tolkien the idea of going on a journey, which kept things fresh. Finally, I find bad people to make good characters because there is more room for character development. I love both stories, though, and this ultimately is just my personal opinion.

I havent actually read mushoku yet so i wont speak on that but i think rezero does the show dont tell really well. I cant remember many moments where they tell us instead of show us expect roswals ideals and plan and maybe some of emilias trial, but theres alot of times where they show rather than tell really well, Like subarus mental problems, how his trauma played into his personality, the five stages of grief, his heroism, and alot more. And with how return by death functions it should be no suprise that they spend alot of time in one setting. As far as arc 6 return by death hasnt really been used in a way that changed the setting its been more used in ways to develop characters and show different sides of people which is done perfectly and it also adds alot to worldbuilding and lore most of the time there in one place. One more thing is rezeros heavily phycological before anything else and its a web novel/light novel so heavy dialogue isnt something thats really bad or suprising.

Return by death do got kinda stale, since it’s basically just how many deads till he got talked to and miraculously find the right solution again. I am talking about later arcs, not the first four Arcs. The situation maybe different but the structure is the same. That is why arc 5 and begin of arc 6 are great cuz subaru doesn’t get RBD too many times, confronted with an entirely new problem.

I agree with you. The biggest point toward Mushoku Tensei is that it’s finished. And it consistently got better during its run time. There are so many stories that was fantastic in the beginning but write itself into a corner or just repeat the same formula to infinity. The singular light novel I have read that make it worthwhile till the very end is only Mushoku Tensei. I have hope but still afraid that Rezero can’t delivered the massive expectations about the mystery of the entire series. P/s: MT would strongly resonate with readers the older we are. I mean , I did have teenage angst but it’s feel so minor compared to real life expectations and family obligations. I read MT a long while ago and now it resonates harder to me when I revisit it.

Great analysis, great voice, I do hope you get more views. There is a bit more things I would have like to add to the world building of MT such as the geography and how it influences the people living there. For example, in the Central Continent the Asurans don't show much prejudice against the Demon Race where as people from the Milis hate them to the core. You might think initially this is because of their belief and I agree but there is more to it. You see they are the Nation that lives closest to the Demon Continent if you have seen the Map. During the Human-Demon War they suffered the most casualties being at the frontline of it. So their hatred is more deep rooted than the Asurans.

Haven't watched the full video yet but I just wanna make a prediction, hopefully this comment doesn't age badly: I think NatalieXHunter prefers Re: Zero overall. Now it could be any number of reasons why but I think what it most likely boils down to is: Subaru. Subaru might be one of the best MC's I've ever encountered in media. Maybe it's just my own biases speaking here, but if I were to venture a guess I think Subaru is the factor that sets two series most apart.

Haha - actually not something I say in the video. I do think Subaru is one of the best MCs in anime (even in fiction), but Rudeus is extremely well written and interesting too, and I find them both really entertaining, so the MC is not the reason I give for my slight preference at the end!

A new Bookworm book is out and I can't even bring myself to start it because I KNOW it's gonna make me sad just by looking at the cover. Back on the topic of the MT manga extras I really do recommend checking them, they're newly written by RNM for the volume releases. V7, for example, has Paul telling Norn a story about himself and Zenith in their adventuring days about how he tried to woo her. It's pretty adorable. The main difference between them is that Re:zero is more fantasy and optimistic while Mushoku Tensei is more suspenseful and realistic. Yes, I agree, RZ is moving toward a complete ending with all lose ends being tied up, this is more or less why for me RZ > MT, it's a story about hope and good winning the day. I love MT, don't get me wrong, I am very attached to the characters and I think the story is amazing. It also feels a lot more real. There are some antagonists in MT that are honorable people whos goal is protecting their family/race. Also on Rudy's side some people are murderers or (a word I won't use so youtube's algorithm won't have a problem with this video being promoted, but you know what Paul did). Our anti-hero's goal isn't justice, sure justice would be preferable, but he would never sacrifice his family, friends or his own body for morale justice. The first person narration and the fact that we live inside Rudy's head I believe is necessary in order to sympathize with him enough that you actually want him to succeed. Else I would have a hard time rooting for him and not his enemies. On the romance side, sure, you can say that Re:zero isn't over yet so it's to early to talk. But, if we assume that RZ is halfway done, you have to admit that MT had A LOT of romantic development by the same point in its story. Also to quote Plinkett's review of star wars "why ayn't nobody married in this story except -Jimmy Smits- Wilhelm?". It really does feel like married couples in RZ only exist to justify the main characters coming from somewhere, other that Wilhelm and Teresia, whos relationship was first and foremost about them (at the beginning at least, before we learned who their child and grandchild is). "That Chapter" was deleted because it was against of the terms of service of the website the WN was hosted on. The author said that even if he were to rewrite the story it would have the same story beats so we will have to see what happens when the redundancy light novel comes out. I believe this infamous part of the story will return in print form since a published book would not have the same censorship rules applied to it like a public domain website has, but maybe it will not be translated for western audiences. Rudy only meeting people he is related to is absolutely blown out of proportion and just false. He met waaay more new characters than people he had an indirect connection with. Yes, he did """stumble""" upon Roxy and Ghislaine's villages, but that doesn't happen overnight he met Roxy when he was 3 years old and visited her village SEVEN years later... and it wasn't even that eventful, they just arrived there and the villagers were nice enough to aid them on their way. Ok, saving the Doldia village only to realize that the chief is Ghislaine's father ( Roxy's dad by comparison was either just a regular guy or the village gatekeeper lol) was a big coincidence, but I had bigger coincidences happen to me in my life. [Novel spoilers] Also, we know that fate is an actual -game mechanic- thing in the story. Yes, because the author said so, but the author also said that magic exists in this world so why is that easy to swallow, but not fate? Honestly it should just be treated like it's own subclass of magic and that's that. Side note, I would like to know which is stronger between Rudy's fate and Kazuma's luck.

dunno about others opinion about "that chapter" but what really bugs me about it is how uncharacteristic some of the characters are when they faced the situation, like eris for example, like she had little to no reaction about it if I remember correctly, like what happened there? I hope the author properly flesh out that arc when it finally becomes a light novel, as it is really a risky move to do, props to him as for not being afraid to do such a thing. I would really like to see what consequences it might bring once the sequel series eventually comes out, since you know this is rifujin we're talking about, this would have consequences. Kinda scared tho on how the western fans would take it as its a really controversial topic, as some might say it destroys aisha's development(like me, but as long as the author fleshes that arc it would probably be fine), but we'll see.
@VarticTube
@VarticTube 3 жыл бұрын
@@kaikiriya2761 Oh man, I could say so many things about that chapter. But I'll just argue the points here avoiding spoilers. I think Eris' reaction was on point, violence. It's just that her mentality is divorced from Rudy's western civilization mentality, she wasn't mad about what happened, but has disappointed that her lesson of 'protect the weak' was ignored. As for Aisha, I think this story completed her development, hence the name of the chapter. For years she was trained to serve, now at long last she wanted something, for herself. Was it wrong? Yeah it was. In a way it was the sins that Rudy, Eris and Lilia committed in they youth combined and coming back to bite them in the ass. I agree with you that parts need to be fleshed out since some of Aisha's interactions were out of place and hard to believe.

I think it's fine for the story, but it did set up a lot of stuff that would happen after Rudy's life, and it's natural that we want to know how the stuff that would come after would go down. Unfortunately, there IS actually a legitimate reason for the rivalry between the two series: The success of Mushoku Tensei DID come at the expense of Re: Zero Season 2. It is well known that Studio Bind, the studio that makes the Mushoku Tensei anime adaptation, is made up of a joint venture between Egg Firm and Studio White Fox, the studio that makes the Re: Zero adaptation. Many of the most talented animators that now work on Mushoku Tensei have officially left White Fox to work on Mushoku Tensei, leaving the Re: Zero adaptation to fall to the wayside. We’ve already witnessed a significant drop in production quality during Re: Zero’s 2nd season (especially during the 2nd cour) and there’s rumors of even worse problems at the studio in regards to the production of season 3. Now, of course, this doesn’t justify hating on Mushoku Tensei, but the truth is that you can’t really “choose both” either. The fantastic production quality we see in Mushoku Tensei DID come at the expense of Re: Zero and it is understandable that some die hard Re: Zero fans are a bit salty about that. Personally, I love Re: Zero but I can live with just reading the novels to get my fix. I’m happy to get a quality anime production wherever I can get it and Mushoku Tensei is also a good story, so I’ll take it.

I mean, to me, while I did get into both of them because of the anime, I've read all of MT and am up to date on Re:Zero, so to me the anime is now just a cool thing to watch that is far behind - it's not what I'm judging the story and writing on, and those are the things I care about most (being a writer not an animation expert)... Plus, I don't really worry too much about things like a slight drop in animation quality (though I do have a video explaining all of the reasons for the issues with production quality in Re:Zero season 2, and it's not just the staff working on Mushoku Tensei - there was also the fact season 1 was supported by Nexus, whereas season 2 was all done in house by White Fox, and various other changes). I was more concerned by things like cut content in season 2, which would have happened whoever directed the animation. It's probably just a different perspective depending on what people value most about the media, but being annoyed at some internal stuff going on with animation studios isn't a reason to say a series or its fanbase are bad...

She's completely wrong about re zero being mostly in third person, it's just translated more easily that way in english. The narration constantly slips in the person's thoughts it's focused on, and not from multiple characters but focusing on a pov. The reason I think 1st person with Liliana was jarring to people was that most of the pov's are either focusing on relatively objective things, like Garfiel mid fight, or very self reflective meaning a lot of switches between narration and commentary, plus dialogue, as with Subaru in more peaceful moments. But Liliana as a character is mostly self reflective in dialogue, it's not a sort of internal battle and any of her questioning is put on the surface, I think it seems comparitively shallow. But anyway, re zero was always multiple povs with inner monologue going on somewhere or other. There's a tonne of stuff Subaru's not aware of as well.

For me are way too different to compare both, Re:Zero was the first time i cryed with an anime, and i'm referring to season 1, because season 2 devastate me... i couldn't re-watch for 2 too 3 weeks the episode parents and child because that hit me too hard, with this i saying that with Re:Zero i experienced more emotions and connections with the characters; while with Mushoku Tensei i experience adventures in a fantasy world with characters that i like, but that's just me maybe.

Mushoku Tensei is the best thing since sliced bread for me, love Re:Zero and all, and there are more hype moments in that anime so far, but the world building, art, and music, as well as some of the characterization are so immersive and well executed that it's always a highlight of the week for me. As well as the demon continent using a fake language, its incredible tbh. They're both great though, would sacrifice many anime on the altar before Re:Zero. Great vid though. For information, the language used isn't fake. There is actually a real language that was created for every single MT language, so if you want to learn it for yourself, you actually can (not actually sure you can find it though). And said language(s) is (are) used in the anime appropriately. Just thought I would share that since I find it really impressive ^^. Mine is an unfair comparison, but I can only tell what I've experienced and what both series made me feel... And it seems like I've written too much again. Re:Zero was one of the few works that really made me go for the source material (despite its insufferable moments in S1 that still make me cringe), mostly because of the premise and the mysteries. Won't state the things we start to notice Season 2 onwards cause it would be much more unfair as I have yet to experience more of Mushoku (but for now MT world feels more realistic and intricate, albeit more linear, whereas RZ world feels more real in the way it presents things and contradicts itself constantly, as real world events would be expected to do). As for Mushoku, season 1 was fine, but it honestly didn't take my breath away like I feel it should, and it still didn't compel me to keep looking and waiting anxiously (like ToG with 12 episodes did, for example). I've heard it picks up later, and I'm eagerly waiting for it. Art and direction were amazing, I must say tho that RZ soundtrack is an incredible rival. Mushoku was very well crafted, for sure, and it has an amazing world, but it feels like just another fantasy for now at least (for which we might have better contenders). Maybe the premise would be enough to make me interested if nowadays Isekai weren't oversaturated (even then, it seems to be one of the few that try and do it right). As for the protagonist, I simply hated him (as I hate most of S1 Subaru, and the fact I love RZ despite this is a statement in itself). It doesn't push me away from the work as a whole, since I also like character studies and feel no need to insert myself to enjoy a good story. I think Rudeus is much more insufferable than Subaru tho (my personal opinion), bearing being disgusting at some points. His self-loathing can make me interested up to some point, but after that I just want to smack him on the face (as I admittedly want to do with Subaru to this day in Arc 7 sometimes). I know it will be a long work so he becomes a better person and overcome the problems in his past, but there's only so much I can take it as an excuse for him and his actions. The disparity between mind and body also always throws me off in Isekai fantasies (a problem which Re:Zero avoids), but it's arguably a pet peeve of mine. In the end it comes to RZ picking my interest more than MT if I compare the start for both series, but I'm open to changing my mind as MT advances and I can experience more of it. Well, edited to fix a spelling mistake and lost the heart... can't be helped lol... But after finishing the video, I must say this as very in-depth analysis and I throughly enjoyed it, and I usually dislike such long videos.

I feel like in MT's case, Rudy's progression is what you would "expect" from the start somewhat, but the "how" makes it all worthwile, with all the worldbuilding and situations that make it work so much better. Now don't get me wrong the character building is great, but I think it would be a shame to call it a wish fulfillement when, other than the main character, it focuses on so many other important things I do have problems with the story as well, but there is this... human nature behind all of it that pushes it to the fantastic side imo Oh and I'm a big rezero fan for context, I don't think either should get a treatment above the other since they are about vastly different themes after all

I like them both but they both have particular quirks to the isekai set ups and (particularly in Tanya's case) the settings, that make them unique but also difficult to compare to the rest of the genre. Where MT pretty much plays it straight and Re:Zero deconstructs it, it's easier to see them as kind of pure but peak isekai, whereas Tanya and Overlord switch things up in different ways so are more like innovative stories that use isekai. I haven't read all of either of them yet though, so maybe when I've finished them both I'll reconsider that.

I dont think Overlord or Tanya as masterpieces. They are just good stories that is good at sth, and lacking in others. The characters are very one dimensional. There is no actual tension when the pro tag just wipe the floor with the enemies. There is no inner conflict no character development . The world building is cardboard cutout. The story trick us that it is going somewhere but it’s the same encounter in different clothes. They are great comedies, just not a great stereo typical story.

@@kirito-ud1qd I did, till Shalltear betrayal. The characters are just one dimensional and evil and lack of empathy for no apparent reason. The world building summed up in one word: “ like a game ” and I lose interest. If it’s like a game, that’s mean no internal logic. A rule of physic in one place can be totally different in another place? The author can pull any bulshit and it’s can be said “ cuz it’s a game”? How is it interesting when the MC can just pull any thing out of his ass and auto win the fight? Not relate to life or death of the MC but just if he win or lose. Shounen Jump mangas did it way better for decades. While Luffy or Naruto never in a danger of dying, their fight always nail-biting, dramatic, and full of suspense because we dont know if they are gonna win or not. @@nguyendi92 well, if you want a strong antagonist than overlord is really not for you because shalltear is the strongest antagonist till now volume 14 and probably always be, but overlord is very less about fighting in the first place it's more of a physiological thriller than shonen style fighting anime. It's mind game type anime, well i don't blame you because there isn't much of it in starting and in all honesty first 3 volume are very boring but it will become good if you read ahead, you can say we are villain this time taking over the world like evil mastermind and about physics law it's not different everywhere but new world's physics is different from ours and there are some irregularities in the world for reasons you will as world you see now is tempered and changed a lot by the people who were transported before ainz and the mysterious surrounding them and their transportation and Suzuki satoru doesn't even comes from our world but a dystopian world where even the air is unbreathable and his mother died from overwork when he was in elementary school, it's a lot dark. The tension will also increase later as he is powerful but not invisible and there are other npcs in his guild even more powerful than him and there is always the fear that his npcs will be mind controlled and used against him after shalltear incident, no matter how powerful he is je always lives in fear that there might be other hostile players which reflects in many of his decisions. Honestly it's just started from vol4 you should read ahead you will be able to see his character development and he also lives in fear that his npcs will know what he truly is and turn against which is what kinda of going on to thou for different reasons if you know about albedo conspiracy. I think you should just read something before criticizing it i doesn't blame you if you got bored after first three volumes but you shouldn't criticize the entire overlord for that, there is a reason overlord has such an big fandom when there are so many op isekai protagonist type shows out there.

Beatrice a over hundred year old psuedo spirit who is very much equally as powerful as knowledgable. so I think just them alone good defeat most Characters in mushoku tensei and if we gonna include more then main like witches of sins and puck and the vampire chick that name I forgot yeah than the dangerous maebeast that come with some witches roswaal. Rudy OTOH isn't a perfect person, but he always outperforms his own opinion of himself. Underpromise and overdeliver is an amazing strategy such as when he fights Orsted. Because we see the world through Rudy who doesn't hype himself up, I'd have never thought he'd be more effective than my main man Ruijard. Watching Rudy use wind to uncollapse his lungs, push himself to a safer distance, use earth magic to prop himself up after being physically broken and still able to deliver the most potent attack from his side had me on the edge of my seat. I really love both series,finished LN on both. Mushoku tensei is what i imagined what a isekai should be ,a new adventure where the plate is wiped clean off,a new beginning,i really love the world building/lore,the encounters in the adventure,all the turning points and some good cast of characters and their relation. Re zero on the otherhand is a complete slap in may face,its a wakeup call what mentally it would feel like to be in another world,your old habits aren't going to away,you need to face your self sooner or later,The great/deep characters/messages lies at the heart of an advanced plot/storytelling, To answer which ones is better ? It's Re:zero not even a question and as to Why : I will just give you one example of Re:zero,Parent and child episode, for the simple fact Subaru doesn't have actually a tragic/ptsd backstory of Parents Dying or bullying like rudeus,The problem lied within himself,he needed to change his habits,his outlook on people around him including parents,and have understanding of other people,not just go on assumption about them because of your insecurities. It felt more real and close to Home I also have to get it out of my chest about my qualm about mushoku tensei as much as i love it (9.5/10) ,its the later half of the story in light novels,I feel like it falss in same trap as shonen anime,At the end of the day Rudues is blessed and is a OP characters in the story and i feel the novels never addressed some of his character Traits(maybe that was the point some people stay like that) and through the series he never has to suffer any severe consequences to himself,obviously Stuff happens to other characters including deaths but its not a consequence of rudy actions its just what plot demanded,The later Half i feel like character development took a huge backseat and i felt it was left halfway though in Favor of the over arching Plot and story Secondly The sexual stuff (Not to what you think),i am indifferent towards it,i don't mind it too much in season 1,but when i read novels especially the next university arc in anime,i am like why focus on it too much ? like except rudues x eris or rudeus x sylphie there was no need for so much attention on the sexual part of the show,like little bit here and there fanservice is fine every anime does that,but like the entire plot dedicated on erectile dysfunction ? not to mention the beast girls. I am not criticizing it because of that but if it excluded that and focused on world/lore more or came with other way to tell the story it would have been much much better,i dunno it just felt awkward to me at times reading it,like author go get laid lmao,stop pushing horny into otherwise fantastic story/world building. I don't have qualms about re:zero but more nitpicks but they are also mostly addressed in later arcs as tappei is getting much better at writing professionally. Mushoku is family based, not to mention of it was mainly on in a single arc half of the arc’s time then it’s not that big of an issue, Re zero is great but the LN and WN are just too dialogue focused? More importantly, Subarus simpness, his lack of dedication to get stronger, his willingness to destroy his gate and other stuff i forgot is infuriating, Re zero’s WN is more skipped than MT. I’m a first person narration lover but I also enjoy third. Return by death is ok? But it’s exhausting, which is why I love arc 5 for its lack of deaths.
