The man Reacher bumped into entering the restaurant at the end was Lee Child, author of the Reacher books.

I was disappointed by the fact they changed who the recipient of the war medal belonged to. It was Reacher’s mother’s in the books. She was part of the French resistance.

From KJ's perspective... he hasn't seen what we've seen Reacher do (and the exact way Reacher thinks). He assumes Reacher will be like 90% of earth's population and cave to save the women. KJ doesn't understand how smart and more importantly, how brutal Reacher can be. Reacher didn't look for Hubble before because he assumed he was dead. KJ killed his dad because KJ didn't think his dad was as committed/ruthless as he needed to be to be successful.
@dustysmoke4996
@dustysmoke4996 9 ай бұрын
Also because his dad blew up on him for all the unnecessary and insane killing he was doing, and said something like "I should have put you back in the insane asymlum", or something close. I'm sure that popped KJ's lid enough to kill him.

Book readers had to deal with the Roscoe thing decades ago. The way I see it, Reacher won't be able to settle down. Not for very long. And she can't go with him. They'd end up resenting each other, and it's better this way. If you read the books, and get to Tripwire and The Visitor, you'll understand better.

Thanks for reacting to Reacher ❤ I am a huge book fan and I know it’s hard for non-book fans to understand Jack Reacher. He grew up all over the world when his dad was a Marine, then he lived all over the world as an MP in the Army. If you want to listen to the audiobook “The Affair” by Lee Child, that book explains how Reacher went from Army life to a full-time resident of the United States for the first time in his life. He’s uncomfortable owning things or living in one place because he’s never done that (except once for a very short time). He has also never seen the country he is a Citizen of so…now he travels light (in the books he has a toothbrush, expired passport for ID, a bank account passbook, I think (and perhaps a roll of cash he either stole from some bad guys or money he had sent to a Western Union from his bank account). He hitchhikes, takes buses, steals cars from bad guys, whatever is necessary at that point of time. He travels the country spending a day here, a couple days there, always looking for things he’s never seen and moves on as soon as he’s done looking. Of course occasionally he runs into trouble that needs solving but then he’s back on the road. He doesn’t own a cell phone or keep mementos, or stay in contact with friends. His closest friends are those he served with…the “Special Investigators”, of which Neagley was one of. The show’s Season 1 is based on the Killing Floor book and Neagley wasn’t in that story but I imagine for character continuity sake, the writers of the show need someone to appear in and out of Reacher’s life. Hence they write in Neagley’s role here…good move by them. As a Reacher book reader for many years I always have trouble when someone doesn’t understand why Reacher does what he does but I hope this helps explain it 🥰

I think it's because people are used to their cookie cutter story lines and happy endings. We know that Reacher is unique exactly because he doesn't fit that mold.

This was the very first Reacher novel, so it was fitting that it was the first season. Reacher is definitely a wanderer the entire series of books, so much so that Neagley starts calling him “Sherlock Homeless”. Remember, he grew up a military brat, so he moved all the time. The longest he lived anywhere would’ve been his four years in the Military Academy at West Point, before he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. As for Finlay, he definitely grew as a person. There’s a saying that if you get in a good place with your head and your heart, you’ll be able to eventually get through what you can never get over. And that’s what we see with him going back to Boston. Also, I’d like to see you make a short clip reacting to the Season 2 preview, if you haven’t seen it yet.

Each season is based on a book. They are all standalone as far as being in different locations with different people, so there will be very little carry over from one season to another, except Neagley or some other people from the Army days will be in multiple seasons.

Enjoyed your reactions to season 1 very much! The Reacher books are all stand alone stories with he, and occasionally Nealey, being the only recurring characters. He just wanders and the overall theme is that he doesn't seek out or cause conflict but will not walk away from innocent people being victimized. Looking forward to enjoying season 2 with you.

I had the same feelings about Roscoe and Reacher that you did. This show was really my first exposure to Reacher (aside from half of the Tom Cruise version on a plane). I get that it's essential to the character of Reacher to wander. But the two of them had SUCH flawless chemistry and I just wanna keep watching their story together. Richardson's portrayal has such hard-edged perfection and brutal charisma, it's hard even to believe a love interest could stand up to it, but Willa Fitzgerald matched him so well with a mixture of hardness, delicacy, and self-possession that they just made perfect sense together. Really enjoyed watching this again with you, in prep for S2. Great reaction!

The guy reacher passed entering the cafe at the end was Lee Child, Reacher's creator and author of the book series. He was a TV producer in the UK and was downsized out of a job and needed to figure out his next move. It was Reacher. Reacher is a wanderer, and he explained why early in the series. His dad was in the military which meant he was in the military with him stationed on one military base after another all around the world. Reacher then went to West Point and into the military himself. He spent his entire life being told what to do and how to do it. When he quit, he wanted to live on his own terms unbound by anything and to finally explore his home country. That's why he never stays anywhere for long, not even for Roscoe. The good news is Neagley will be back for season 2.

The finale was a great episode, someone pointed out some interesting symbolism. When Reacher first enters Margrave. It's raining and cloudy wich symbolizes the corruption and greed that goes on, and when Reacher leaves the skies are clear and sunny indicating that all the bad things have been cleaned up and a new beginning for Margrave. I'm super excited for season 2, the book that season 2 is based off is called "Bad luck and trouble". I hope you'll react to the season 2 trailer before season 2 comes out.

I know a lot of Reacher fans dislike the Tom Cruise movies, but they're really good at showing the encapsulation of one book in one movie (or season). I haven't read the books, but I doubt that Roscoe was a continuing character across multiple books. In my opinion, the movies are great. Reacher isn't 6'5", but Cruise has other advantages.

"I haven't read the books..." if you check out the books, even the audiobooks you get a real feel for the character. So it's easier to like Tom Cruise as Reacher because you don't have anything to compare it to.

Your pure enjoyment of the series made watching your reactions a delight. Thanks. It was fun. If you read the series of Reacher books, you very quickly get into the mindset that he's a nomad at heart, and so, no matter how much he may have liked Roscoe, by the time the storyline for the next season starts, he's going to be in a completely different part of the country. The sun sets in the west every day, and Reacher moves on at the end of every novel. Anyway, Dec. 15th is right around the corner, so have a happy season 2!

Happy days are here again! Thank you for your videos, Steph. - Concerning the romance/love: We are now 8 billion humans on this planet, every single one with different experiences and opinions on how life should be. As much as you don't "get" or"understand", why Reacher keeps wandering instead of settling down. I guarantee there are folks out there in relationships loving each other in all sorts of ways that can't understand the 2-persons-only-forever-and-ever-model. Or at least they will question why people think that THAT is the ONLY way to TRULY find happiness. I'm not saying: "Stop feeling this way and scrap that opinion of yours, Steph!" That would be presumptuous of me. On the contrary, I'd love to hear more. As long as you don't fall into the trap of saying "something IS bad", because you just got something you didn't LIKE (at first), then all is well. (BTW I don't think, you're actually doing it. ;) ) I fell into that many years ago when I watched The Mist: I think, I'm not spoiling, when I tell this: First time watching I hated the movie, because so many characters in the movie acted/behaved in ways I don't LIKE. Only later after some discussions I realized, that the movie wasn't a BAD i. e. badly crafted movie because of that. It just showed an example of how a story could play out if people behaved in a certain way. It was entirely my problem for taking it too personally and getting frustrated. - Then I appreciated the variety. Also, you already watched the Jason Bourne movies. Wouldn't it be boring if Reacher and Roscoe did the same thing as Jason and Marie? Including the sequels? :P

I enjoyed this reaction so much. This show was so much fun, and I'm very happy you found it. Loved your emotional reaction to Jack, and Reacher leaving. I too will miss Roscoe and Finley. I love action, dramas, thrillers, etc. But romantic comedies are my absolute favorite, so the Roscoe/Reacher relationship was a highlight for me. Not to mention the Roscoe character and actress playing her shined in every scene. Next season looks great, and we will get more Neagley. But Roscoe's heart and Finely's humor will be missed. Gonna be a fun December with your more adult Christmas movies and season 2 of Reacher. 😁

Small point but this book is set in the 90's, and the war medal belonged to his mother, not a grandfather, who had served in the French Resistance as a child. Something that Joe and Reacher do not discover until that visit to their mother.

The series is going by the books, so, new towns, new problems, new people. As for Reacher not settling down, that is just part of who he is and how he grew up. As a kid, it was always moving to new places. As an adult, he was always getting new station assignments, so, always moving. It's all he knows. As for Reacher and Roscoe, and how that is going to go in later series, well, you see it. Reacher meets someone, they bang, he has his adventure for that book and he moves on. New book. New town, new girl to meet and bang, new adventure to solve. When series 2 starts and you do your reactions, you'll see.

When I first began reading the Reacher novels, I used to wonder why there wasn't more of a fanbase for this series. I realized much, much later on that there actually was and that just because I wasn't a regular presence on social media didn't mean other fans weren't. And then I watched the first movie starring Tom Cruise. My first reaction was... "This guy, really?" I mean, he's a great actor and has screen presence and all that, but Reacher is supposed to be bigger. And then this series came out and all was good with the world again. Also, others have already commented on the Reacher character and why there is no Mrs Reacher, so to speak. Reacher is in his own words one of the "wandering type"... essentially the lone ranger. Also, having been an avid fan of the books, it's kinda satisfying to watch him walk away into that proverbial sunset by himself. Thank you for reacting to this series, Steph. Glad you were in time with the second season that's beginning on the 15th. Looking forward to watching your S2 reactions.

The main reason Reacher left is because that is how the book series goes. He wanders around across the country, and always seems to find himself in a bind where he has to help the locals and solve some sort of crime, and after the dust settles he moves on to the next town/disaster.

She isn't in the next season because every book happens in a different town as he wanders the country. Neagley is the most common recurring character in the books, although his other Army team members appear in some of the prequel movies. The only other major recurring character who is not a former Army compatriot is Susan Turner(played by Cobie Smulders in the Tom Cruise movie) who was his replacement in the 110th and is a voice on the phone for two books before he meets her in the third one after leaving a trail of death and destruction across the country as he heads toward her. He is also with the daughter of his former CO in the second and third books, as I recall. Season two takes place in Los Angeles, so there is really no way that Roscoe or Finlay could reasonably be a part of it.

I agree with you. It would have been smart for KJ to take care of Reacher right then and there while they had the upper hand. But, one of KJ's biggest flaws is his hubris. He probably believed he would always one-up Reacher because the Kliners had been getting away with their operation for so long. KJ also needed Hubble back under his control, whether it was because Hubble was a loose end, or because Hubble was so good at his job (being able to move millions in paper bill currency in a couple hours) that he was too valuable to lose. KJ was smart enough to realize that Reacher was his best chance at getting Hubble. If you recall in one of the first episodes, KJ had access to Reacher's military records. So, KJ would have known that Reacher is the best at finding people who don't want to be found. Also, at this point, KJ was backed by all of the money and power of his operation, as well as the resources of the FBI through Picard and the Venezuelans, and he still couldn't find where Hubble was hiding. That made KJ even more desperate to find Hubble. Desperate people don't really tend to think logically in those sorts of situations. I'm excited for season 2 and I hope you continue to watch the new season.
