I know nothing of Reacher. When the Tom Cruise movies came out I was not interested in them at all. When I saw Alan Ritchson was starring in this I was excited to check this out. Binged the entire series in a day. I liked this series so much I actually went back to watch Tom Cruise's Reacher. I was bored and checked out half way through the movie. I need to start reading the novels as I am now VERY intrigued about this character and his world.
@CALLaBOOTY092 жыл бұрын
Having read the books more times than I remember it was hard picturing cruise as reacher but Alan ritchson is also way to pretty for book reacher. I still think Tom cruise portrayed reachers personality better in the first and I think I see Thad castle to often. And towards the end of this series they started adding and changing things which I hate but if lee child is a producer I can accept that. For me I still like the first movie the best, then the series, then 2nd movie. Books are always better though.
@Al-rs2rr2 жыл бұрын
@@CALLaBOOTY09 At first I thought the same thing, Ritchson is just too pretty to be Reacher. But I sort of understand the fact that the t.v. Reacher is more visual than the book Reacher that relies on our imaginations. They sort of had to make him a little better looking to justify him always getting the girl. In my opinion Ritchson is the perfect Reacher. Tom Cruise's only downfall as Reacher was that he just wasn't big enough.
@CALLaBOOTY092 жыл бұрын
@@Al-rs2rr ya and to be fair also, the casting sample will be so small for a character like reacher and what big ripped actor isn’t going to be to pretty for reacher.

Best thing about Reacher and Diez is how fast Reacher was able to sum up Diez as a person. Still careful enough about "the small details" such as haircut and shined shoes. That meant that you could count on him to make sure that things were done "by the book" in regard to how protecting someone should take place. Plus, he also knew as a former soldier that he could take care of himself under stressful situations. He also knew upon hearing his rank and unit, just how much Diez would know just how serious the situation was if someone with Reacher's rank and unit showed up and said that something had to be taken care of. The two men, summed each other up just from careful observation and familiarity of ranks/units. All of this with the minimum of words and no need to do any kind of wasted scene to establish new character that will (not a spoiler) not really impact the story itself. This was a simple "I know I can trust this guy to be on the level and capable" without having to waste an entire episode to establish this like other shows "feel" the need to do.
@paulcollinsyoga2 жыл бұрын
The series format works perfectly for the adaptation of these books. It all depended on finding the right Reacher, and boy did they ever nail it!!!! That final scene is just peak Reacher. Brutal, efficient, and intelligent. What I loved watching the series is how well developed the main characters were. Gradually we learn more and more about everyone, so we are fully invested in the story.

Well u noticed that Reacher went into a high end shop to have the suit done. That means high end ties made of silk. Silk is some of the strongest stuff on earth.
@anthonyperez57572 жыл бұрын
I was about to post about this exact topic. Silk is the strongest biological substance that is both elastic and strong. Five times stronger than the equivalent high-grade steel. Spider silk can withstand winds that would topple you. A pencil width strand of spider silk will stop a Jumbo 747 mid-flight.

Silk has VERY high tensile strength (comparable to steel on a one-to-one basis), as well as extremely high elasticity as well. That's why high quality, bespoke ties are usually silk - and why that tie could hold Reacher's weight. If you used a couple dozen ties, you could probably tow a car.

That is a bit hyperboble but you do have to do something drastinc to them, the two 300 ties I have that go with them you could repel if the were longer. / Clothes, Food and Travel never skimp on these you always get what you pay for down to the stitch (pun intended)

20:10 fabrics have a lot of tensile strength, spider silk is famously stronger than steel, silkworm silk used in textile industry is only maybe half as strong but still pretty durable, synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon are actually stronger. granted supporting a still weight isn't comparable to unstable one but a necktie of any material should still easily hold a human in the air even if he's kicking a bit.

What makes you think Reacher isn't sensitive. He is but he just doesn't care in most cases. He did get a smile out of Finley. The phone was a type of dead man's switch, he turns it on and if he doesn't turn it off within a certain time period it sets off a charge that may even be surgically implanted inside him. As far as the accountant goes, if you don't recover a body then it is only a possible kill. What he told his wife would be hear-say evidence, meaning we don't know if he was telling her the truth or not. I play poker and almost always have 5 or 6k dollars in hundred dollar bills. In the early 70's I carried 1000 dollar bills. Larger bills were also printed, 5k, 10k, and 100k, some of them were Gold Certificates, exchangeable for gold from the Federal Reserve. They started taking them out of circulation in 1969, partly because they weren't being used very much and because criminals were using them to move large amounts of cash into and out of the U.S.

The Supernotes urban legend goes back to the early days of The Internet. Supposedly in the late 1970's the CIA wasn't satisfied with the level of funding they were getting from Congress. So the CIA somehow got a hold of a Treasury Dept. printing press and they decided to counterfeit their own money to fund their operations. Since the CIA was using official paper and a official printing press their bills were nearly perfect and indistinguishable from the real thing and thats where the term Supernotes came from. The CIA had to hide where this counterfeiting was being done for obvious reasons so they hid the entire operation and equipment in the basement of the US Embassy in Iran. Everything was going great until in 1979 when the Shah of Iran was overthrown and the US Embassy was captured by the Ayatollah Khomeini. At this point supposedly the Iranians moved the press and all of the equipment from the Embassy to somewhere in Lebanon to continue the counterfeiting operation for their benefit. This all sounds like a load of BS until sometime in the 1990's a bunch of super high quality counterfeits started coming out of the Becca Valley area of Lebanon. Then around that time the US started changing to design of paper currency every few years for a while and all those countermeasure devices started showing up in the money. In the 1990's this story was floating around BBS systems and Usenet newsgroups but you don't hear much about it anymore. So is this true? Who knows but thats the urban legend.

So, to answer some of the questions raised, in a place where TBR may actually see it... 1) Reacher and Joe not being "close". As a military family, you move a lot. You learn over time not to get close to people, even family. So, Joe and Reacher not keeping in contact a lot is because of the fact they moved a lot as kids and learned how to not get close to people. 2) Reacher as Sherlock Holmes. In the books, it takes a little longer for Reacher to put things together than it does in the series. But, given the lack of time, even as a series, they have to condense it down. 3) Reacher as a hobo. Reacher spent a lot of time overseas, as a kid and when he was active duty. When he left the military, he decided to travel the US to see what he missed. He goes as a hobo because he learned to not have "things" after moving all the time.
