0:03 BlackHeart59 the dude that got to GoD with every character said that Devil Jin and Steve were the hardest character to reach GoD. I think the reason MainManSwe considers Steve harder than Devil Jin is probably because he is a long time Mishima player.
@kristianbojinov67153 ай бұрын
Harder to reach GoD with doesn't equate to harder. Character might be super hard but be full of gimmicks making them an easy rank up. A character could also be easy but super weak making them harder to climb with

@@kristianbojinov6715 You are speaking in general terms. WHO is the "super hard but full of gimmicks" character you are referring to? WHO is the "easy but super weak" character you are referring to? I assure you Steve doesn't really have gimmicks and he is also super hard. Therefore, he's harder to reach the top rank, even if you are a very good player. In this example, its a player who has managed to reach the highest rank with every character. I think he has credibility, not sure about your opinion on it considering you went straight for semantics that has not been directly applied to the characters being discussed.

@@bonfist7277 Yoshi is an example of a really hard character who is also full of gimmicks. Do you really need an example of an easy weak character in fighting games? My comment is directed at the OP not at the person who resched GoD. I'm also clearing up his statement. He's not saying Steve is the hardest character in the game, but the hardest to get GoD with. Sure Steve might as well be the hardest, but that's a different topic.

Steve's game design feels unfinished. Namco want him to rely on counters (like Bryan), but gave him only one true option (b+1) - if they made df2, db2, and ALB2 crumple or launch on ch, then he would have a way to enter the neutral/reverse the pressure like Kaz and Bryan.
@tristanherb493 ай бұрын
they didnt need to nerf steve that much coming from tekken 7
@VermilionGates2 ай бұрын
They also made B1 launchable on whiff, while it's supposed to be -1 even according to frame data when transitioned into flk. With the time it takes to go into FLK and duck cancel, I've still been launched which is a first for Steve in any Tekken. It's more of a hard read tool now and not as good at keepout, which sucks because ws2, df2 and b2 not launching anymore means Steve has way less keepout tools. Only one that launches really is fc df2 as a punish for high strings, but any characters who have strings that mix lows and mids and aren't like -14 are super spammable against Steve.

My biggest issue with Steve in 8 is Bamco's decision to strip a lot of his tool to force players into using his LH stance (which they retracted somewhat now that you can cancel it, before you couldn't and it was just a horrible 50/50 AGAINST you) and practically every other character in the game having better tools than him all around. It's like a boxer known for his punches getting out punched by a someone random.
@zato-17662 ай бұрын
Yea idk how they built him around LH essentially and didn't notice that the risk reward of the stance was stacked against him. Even outside of the all options lose to power crush originally it was: safe but -9 mid that does like 20 damage outside of a heat engage but it loses to any punch parry, mixup GC that does 19 damage max and leaves you plus 6 but is launch punishable if your opponent does anything but stand block or rockets the oppoent away to neutral for like 20 dmg on hit, and an unsafe launching mid. The options were awful for how unsafe LH was. Bad mixup stances work for steve because he can cancel out of all of them for fake pressure and fish for counter hits, hut LH is commital. First stance that Steve can't safely cancel out of or block in and the mixup is so weak that their means of balancing it was allowing you to prevent yourself from entering it.
@Im0nJupiter2 ай бұрын
I really wish we had the df2 ch launch. The mix of CH options between b1 and df2 was so strong
@JohnGlow23 ай бұрын
Its weird because, with how Steve’s tools work, you would think that he’d be a perfect counter character because of how aggressive the gameplay is, but in actuality, its hard to get people to respect your tools and gameplan when they can force their way through your defenses. Most of your counterhit tools have been heavily nerfed, you lost your launchers, several damage nerfs, in a game where powercrushes are way more prominent, Stun Gun’s year long start up is only useful when someone commits to a move with a ton of startup or a super lengthy string. You just have to straight up constantly outplay your opponent. He’s heavily momentum based, neutral dominant and very safe, but he does okay ish damage and his big punishes are net losses considering how you want to play him. He’s a balanced character, in a game where others can do what he does but better for way more reward. I honestly think Yoshi plays more like Steve than Steve does in 8.

@@IWantToStayAtYourHouseI play both, and I would agree though Lee has his own issues. Low committal B4, CH D3, 1+2 CH, WS2, and CH 4/ D4444 are great its just that if the opponent gets a life lead you’re fighting for your life.
@kachucho8722 ай бұрын
What tools? Basically no good mids in neutral and your only good ch tool is a high. Df2 should CH launch again, and b2 should also launch.
@JohnGlow22 ай бұрын
@@kachucho872I have mixed feelings about b2 honestly. I agree with you about DF2 cause honestly its kinda cheeks, but I actually really like how B2 works in conjunction with heat since they’re pushing it. Gives a guaranteed engager, its plus enough that you get a few mind games too, keeps them close to you. I see what they were going for with it anyway. I don’t see that changing anytime soon, but I think if they make sonic fang wallsplat or stick more consistently, you’ll get an overall net positive damage wise from b2> Sonic fang> some kind of tornado at the wall> gatling

its hard to rank steve because he has lesser answer in almost all options, you rely in people messing up and punishing that optimally with steve which is very hard considering he even needs execution. you barely got mixups and some (if not most) of his heat dashes on hit only gives guaranteed hits and not combos unlike most of the roster like Jin's ff2 on hit. he is somehow pretty safe and if you have no knowledge of steve youd have a hard time knowing if its the end of his turn or not. so overall id say he is the hardest to rank up despite the other rosters even with their nerfs
@ranges7872 ай бұрын
steve relies on character knowledge. you need info on nearly every single character. for example if opponents character has a 12/13f MID punish ALL his back sway setups fall apart. same with his side sways if opponent has good tracking stuff you just can’t use them haha. and on top of everything his inputs are imo the hardest in the game. df2 ws22 all his wall splat throws pab f1+2 etc everything super good with him is locked behind a 1/2 f window and thats ridiculous in a ungabunga tekken edit: oh and you basically play without lows haha

Also he has a LOT of tech like B2 , clinch 1 and db1+2 into pkb f1+2 for wallspat (without it you lose a lot of damege and pressure) and some specific set up with while running 1 and sonic fang. He has not a homing mid move only the heat smash can be used as such. all this while you need to stay consistent with the duck cancel and if you mess up you are. completly open to any kind of launcer.

No offense I love mainman but he was hating on Jin for no reason. Yes he is easier than in 7 vs now but cmon, all characters got gutted in 8. some more then others. That Jin was doin zen/zan cancels, elecs, good combos, good general movement, great neutral, like cmon bro, ye we know that in his opinion kaz is supreme but by his logic: why is he this rank too? Maybe he recently picked up Jin’s ranked journey. Maybe he aint a streamer that can play 24/7. Just cuz he play‘s a harder character atm? Jin has a lotta tools that still make Him harder to play then for example azu (atleast mid ranks)

Why does mainman always use heatdash really early? Is Steve during heat really that mediocre?
@ratbag41273 ай бұрын
He is pretty rough in heat. His chip is subpar and he doesn't get many options.
@kingkino21163 ай бұрын
because quick and/or long range mid check into +frames +wall carry is better than throwing out heat gimmicks for most characters, esp. if opponent is low hp. Unless its someone like Ling that gets a +6 mid string in heat to use instead, nina and hwo with their ungodly chip block strings, or Kaz with an even more busted hellsweep

Steve's heat engagers suck. His armor moves are scarse. His special moves in heat are a counter stance, a faster duck and duck throw 50/50. That's it. His heat smash is ass: Linear as fuck, doesn't wall break, can floor break, shitty damage and sometimes it doesn't ch for some weird reasons i still don't grasp

His combos aren't actually THAT hard. They are easier than the T7 Steve combos. Combos are your least problematic thing when it comes to Steve honestly. What's hard about Steve is that his tools are just limited compared to most of the cast. His lows are terrible, his CHs aren't special anymore as many other characters have equally strong CHs or even better ones, he has pretty much no launch punishement, his heat is garbage, and his mixup utility is very weak as TMM said in the video. You are pretty much relying on your opponents making mistakes and pressing into you, and you having great timing, spacing, defense.
@user-hf2zi8bk6r3 ай бұрын
@@disruptor6550 his CH arent special anymore? genuinely asking what do you mean by this? his b1 is still the #1 ch tool ingame imo. his running up and uhh idk UF+2 (?) is a pretty strong launcher too and not even launch punishable for what you can get. sorry language barrier makes it hard for me to give more examples but he still got some very good tools but utilizing them in a proper way is a lot harder than it was in T7 because everyone is just rushing you down if you arent rushing the enemy down. well, except of this point i fully agree
@disruptor65503 ай бұрын
@@user-hf2zi8bk6r what I meant by that is that many other character have insane CH launchers in T8, compared to T7 where Steve and his B1 kinda stood out. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great move, but his CH identity is not that unique anymore since many other characters have similarly great CH launchers. And yeah, his UF2 is a solid move since it's only -14, but it's not meant for launch punishment. Usually it's more a tool to launch hard reads or sidestep launch people, as it's pretty slow.
@cloudcoastgaming2 ай бұрын
@@user-hf2zi8bk6rSteve’s counter hits are not as good as they were. Back 1 is duckable and often doesn’t function as good as it should given the types of attacks you get from others that interrupt it. Fengs shoulder is way more useful than b1. And there are a few others that just get way more mileage. I’ve even heard some say that his b1 is bugged.

@@JJEHUTYYI feel you homie trust me! Bryan lost counterhit tools and a launcher as well. All of Bryan’s lows are punishable to the point of being wall splatted. None of Bryan’s lows hit grounded if they stay there and they don’t track well (d4) if tech rolled. Steve on the other hand has a few lows that are great pokes and that spinning low that is guaranteed after certain moves, and it’s basically homing. Steve doesn’t get nearly what Bryan does from his counters, but man what I’d do for a fast counter like b1! I think both characters are change of pace fighters, neither are counter hit paragons like Nina/King/Lidia/Jin/Ling/Feng/Law are. They’re not keep out characters either, especially when Bryan’s main keep out and counterhit move (3+4) gets him countered and launched by df2 and much more way more often than it works as it’s intended. Steve is one of the harder matchups for me with Bryan, I fight a lot of Steve’s and play him to a small extent. He keeps Bryan out pretty easy and definitely out-plays him with small Tekken.

bryan is definetly the counterhit paragon, steve now is like the poke paragon maybe not aure if he is even the best in that. also bryan can open up people with his hatchet steve can't, the best yiu get of guard break is 19 damage aftereards if your opponent ain't mashing like a monkey, because you actually have time to prepare since he only can do it after entering lionheart. The reward for bryan is just waaaaaay morr than steves reward you literally only need one good launch and your opponent is basically dead 😂. @@BustaNAugusta
