I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. Thank you for being brave and caring enough to share this heartbreak. Our beautiful granddaughter, Aliyah drowned in the Erie Canal July 19, 2018. It was 12 days before her 7th birthday. She was with two 25 yr olds who failed to keep her safe. It is almost 3 months later and we are still stuck on July 19th. It took 2 hours for the Police Scuba divers to find her. 😥

A family friend lost her 3 yr old daughter to drowning in a pool at a friends house. Thank You for the sharing of your loved ones stories. How a precious life can be lost in minutes. How can I honor Kinsleys life. I want to teach infants and toddlers water awareness and how to swim. There is no substitute for watching your child around water. I live in Arizona. Drowning is the #1 cause of death for children under 5.

This was emotionally painful to watch itself. I can't imagine what you all have been through. I am 17 and have a lifeguard certificate and hope to make a difference, but prevention is still the key.

I grew up with an in ground pool in my backyard. I remember when I was 8 years old my two cousins came over to swim. We were diving off the diving board and have the fun that 8 and 9 year old girls can have. My cousin Nancy was also 8 and after one dive in she was struggling to make it back to the stairs. She was drowning. I jumped in and tried dragging her to the stairs. She was in such a panic that she was pulling me under by grabbing any part of my body that she could. I screamed for my cousin Mary to grab the net for the leaves and somehow I got Nancy to grab the net. Mary and I pulled her to the stairs where she was gasping for air. I still live at my childhood home and the pool is still in the yard. I have taught my four kids and my four grandchildren to swim before they turned a year old. It really does only take a minute.

I am watching this in honor of Clinton Andrew Tebbs. He was a 32-year-old Navy veteran that loved the water and loved LIFE. Drowning can happen to anyone. RIP Clinton!

I learned the hard way when my 20 month daughter let go of my hand, walked about 4 paces and into the swimming pool. She had been swimming since she was just 4 months old but now she was floating, face down, arms and legs spread, in the water. I grabbed her leg and pulled her out. She spluttered and began crying hysterically. We were inside the pool fence at our friend's home. From that day forward I never took my eyes off her for even 1 second when she swam at our large pool. Until she was 10, and a competitive swimmer for her school, I never allowed her to swim at friend's pools unless I was there. This is a worldwide problem. Luckily, we are bound, by law, to have 6' metal fences around our pools and double child proof latches on the gates.

My primary school teacher knew a parent whose two-year-old drowned in a puddle, in less than a minute. He fell in face-first, inhaled, and the shock of the cold water entering his airways instantly and irreversibly stopped his heart.

YOU DIDNT FAIL THEM. YOU WERE THE TINIEST PART AS YOU Are the ones who didn’t want this to happen. There is the nature of the water, it’s known it tempts people in, there’s the fact that children and people don’t always listen. Who listens all the time? People love the water and get all excited about it. None of us always see the danger. For the teenager, maybe there was something in water, you’re not aware of. Maybe he suffered a seizure,
