Reaching the heights of professional cliff diving

Professional cliff divers plunge from platforms as high as nine stories tall, all while being judged for their artistry as they twist and flip at 65 miles per hour. They compete on a six-country tour as part of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. Correspondent Seth Doane watches a competition in the Italian coastal town of Polignano a Mare, and speaks with athletes Molly Carlson, Aidan Heslop and Ellie Smart about what it takes to compete in this jaw-dropping sport.

Awesome. Like that they feature someone in second place . It’s not about always coming in first . Plus I’m always about people sharing and normalizing their stories having come from a fam where everything was so hush hush all the time which makes everyone cray cray

This seems sensational. She is usually a professional, but when it comes to cliff diving, it is definitely dangerous. Swimmers and divers must stay safe.

I've jumped off 30 ft platforms as a kid and that's high enough for me. I mean, that hurts even when you hit the water correctly.

I have seen this young lady (she has a show on you tube).. jump of things that look like something Base Jumpers use with Parachutes would jump off of.. I like flying airplanes and I am not afraid of heights.... But.... this scares me everytime I see her jump... More power to her.. GO FOR IT!! but not for me.... 😮

There are only two type of cliff divers. Grand champion and stuff on a rock.

When i was in middle school (11 or 12) my church youth group did a mission week in the southern part of Missouri and we got to use a pool at the university there. We were jumping off a platform dive and i was dared to dive off it. Stupid me, wanting to be apart of the group, did that and had a headache for days. I think if i had been less lucky i might have broken my neck

I used to easily jump feet-first (no flips or dives) 40 feet into a quarry in Vermont when I was younger. I tried 50 feet in Massachusetts twice, but twisted myself one time and it hurt for a week. No more, thanks. Quarry jumping is a rite of passage for younger people (mostly guys) in places like New England and southern Indiana.

Is the real “why” just adrenaline addiction? Sounds like they’re trying to hit a college essay character limit describing those other reasons. “Totally empowering and forces me to think outside the box while jumping from atop a box into the unknown of the water which is really just a large box of water like Boxed water which helps my anxiety and the environment.” Also why do the men jump 30ft higher?? Would’ve liked to hear more from the men about their reasons. What an insane sport.

And also... they were asked a question about a feeling, and they attempted to describe it. Saying, "Because I like it," is a lame answer. Would you NOT feel empowered accomplishing something dangerous and difficult that you had worked extremely hard for? 😂
