@NK-bk3bz Жыл бұрын
Agree but I think people misunderstand what cultural appropriation is. For someone to participate in a culture's traditions and show appreciation for it is generally accepted. Simply wearing outfits or eating food, respecting the meaning behind certain traditions, imo, should be encourage to bring cultures together and allow people to celebrate diversity. But appropriating is more like stripping the tradition of it's cultural significance and meaning and claiming it as your own type of thing, while not respecting the culture itself. For example, spirit animals. Appropriating a culture is different from appreciating one.

@3434animal Жыл бұрын
None of what you cited is appropriation; those are instances of cultural exchange in which both parties are mutually agreeing to share in something to better understand or learn something about one another. Appropriation is when one culture uses something from the other culture without any recognition or respect to the culture they’re getting it from. Most everyday people aren’t appropriating all that often, but it happens a lot in show business because of the pressure to market with novel aesthetics that will make you stand out from your peers.

@interestedbystander196 actually cornrows and dutch braids are different. Dutch braids, you cross your strands under while holding the hair up at an angle, to create a bit of height, and you often pull apart the braid at the end for added volume. With cornrows, you braid going down for a tighter, flatter effect against the scalp. Also they look nothing alike.

I'm not speaking as a Michael Jackson fan, but as a common man. How Michael Jackson is problematic? Yes, there are some controversies surrounding him, that doesn't mean he is problematic. There is not one shred of evidence that Michael Jackson did anything wrong. The FBI and CPS investigated him for years and years, and since 1993, every place he went, every encounter he had, every telephone conversation, electronic chats, and every computer/internet page he cracked was *monitored* by the Federal Bureau of Investigations. His home was raided by around 77 police officers at different times. That’s more than what serial killers get! And yet? NOTHING was found. Not even a *smidgen* of questionable behavior or material was found that Michael Jackson had committed wrongdoing. To this day, (July 23, 2023) there's not a single damn PROOF that Michael Jackson did anything wrong.

funny thing about cancel culture is that if we all had public lives like this, we'd all cancel each other. i mean some people do genuinely terrible things, but other times is like- really? they did cornrows and now we should cancel them? mxiim..

Will Smith shouldn't get all that hate. He is a human being who was defending his wife. When she was feeling uncomfortable, his emotions got the better of him and did what he did. He even admitted that he could have done better.

Chris Rock was asking for it. He mocked her alopecia, which she was already openly upset about. A woman's hair is a huge part of her identity, so it was far more than a "joke". I'm sick of "comedians" thinking making fun of people at their expense is funny and people just going with it because they're assholes.

I wish we could cancel the cancel generation. They aren't helping anyone at all and are only making things worse and dividing us more.

What's it with Amerincans and "cultural appropiation"? You can't wear a poncho if you're not latino? You can't wear a kimono if you're not asian?
