The point where the young man finally understood the music video, classic! I can't remember where Lorde originated from in New Zealand, but the music video reminds me of what I see, and experienced as a teenager, moments of pure fantasy (while travelling on a bus, or sitting at home) because there wasn't much else to do on those days :)

I'm kind of disappointed that the Fine brothers did not delve deep into the lyrics and notice the inherent contradictions in Lorde's song. All of these kids agreed the message was that she is not power-hungry but yet, she says, "Let me be your ruler (ruler)/ You can call me queen B/ And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule." The only Queen B I grew up with is Beyonce and if Lorde isn't looking for fame, why would she even sing such a line?

It's "super relatable" but you "don't get it". The fact that these teens were utterly unimpressed because the video wasn't glamorous and flashy should be a serious red flag to anyone with a functioning brain. They couldn't even relay the fairly obvious message of the song even though she sings it several times verbatim. I weep when I think of the future generation I'm a part of. That was just saddening to watch...

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this music video. Listening to the song for the first time gave me the idea of the music video being the same pop-music shit where a group of girls are driving in a fancy car down the road whilst singing and drinking beer. But what i got was a music video showcasing the bleakness of the reality of teenage life compared to the fantasy life so many girls ( and sometimes men ) seem to be living inside their own head. Or i'm just some dumb guy that feels the need to overanalyze everything.

This is fantastic. Like countless other kids at heart out there, I discovered "Royals" through Weird Al's parody, and at first glance I dismissed it as yet another run of the mill pop song, but after listening to it a little more closely and watching this video, I now have much respect for Lorde and what she is trying to do with her music. (And like many, of course, I can't believe she's only 16!) I'd love to see a Teens React to "Foil" after having done this video. I think it would be fascinating to hear what their opinion is of a parody based off of a song that they are already quite familiar with (not to say that they wouldn't know any of the other songs Al has parodied just because they're younger than I am, though).

When you find someone new, that's just how it starts. You hear them, and eventually you start to learn about them. It's not like we're going to find out who they are the second we know their existence or the second we hear them on the radio. Unless you were that curious as to look them up. But like what worldwide said, you don't have to know every little piece of information about an artist, to enjoy their music.
