Why did Clara become a Dalek? You said it yourself, she scatters herself throughout The Doctor's timeline to protect him from The Great Intelligence and scatters herself into several Clara's to protect him and that version of herself usually ends up dying, the Dalek being one of them.

With the regeneration thing the doctor can have 12 regeneration's. There's 1-8 (the original doesn't count as a regeneration) the war doctor 9, 10, then ten regenerates but sends the regeneration to his hand witch creates the 10th doctor clone then 10 regenerates witch would make him use up all his regeneration's. so it is possible fore there to be 11 doctors and still have used all 12 regenerations

I would start with the beggining of the ninth doctor, which began in 2005. DONOT SKIP THE NINTH DOCTOR. from there you can continue throught the rest of all the seasons.

well the beginning is kind of a wide term the beginning could be back in 1963 or 2005 i would recommend you start with series 1 of the revival because the show that early on focused very much on the companions point of view so you would learn with the companion. i would start with series 1 2005

I have a theory on why the doctor regenerated into an old man: The original doctor was portrayed as an old man and all doctors after him have become more and more younger. Seeing as as Matt Smith was the twelfth (and final) incarnation, the crack in time may have restarted the doctor's timeline. Thus his current incarnation as an old man (Peter Capaldi)

Time lords have twelve regenerations so therefore thirteen selves. He used up one on the War Doctor, and another when he stayed as the tenth doctor when he was shot by a dalek in season four, thus making Eleven the thirteenth self of the doctor.

The limited regenerations thing was a rule of sorts to make sure no Time Lord is immortal, a Time Lord is actually able to regenerate 500-odd times.
