I really like No Face character. He seems the representation of someone without identity. He has no face or name, when we have identity issues, we wish to be validated, recognized, and we give ourselves in order to be loved. And we copy our surroundings to fit. No Face does all of this, but Chirriro simply respects him, she cannot be bought, she is someone who SEES him. Because he is like a mirror of his surroundings, Chirriro had to take him away from the bathouse, a place of greed.

no face is one of the most interesting characters in the movie to me.

2002 all over again. The first time I watched this movie and fall in love with Studio Ghibli instantly! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The overlay video was slightly delayed throughout the reaction, lol. Fun fact: until “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train,” this had been the number one grossing theatrical release in Japan. Fun fact number 2: the bathhouse was based on a real building in Taiwan. Fun fact number 3: the little coal worker spirits were also shown in the movie Tonari no Totoro (in slightly different form). To me, this is my favorite Ghibli movie (pronounced with a soft G, not hard G: “jiburi”). Other great Ghibli movies I recommend you check out include: My Neighbor Totoro (Tonari no Totoro), Kiki’s Delivery Service (Majou no Takyubin), Nausicaa (Kaze no Tani no Naushika), Howl’s Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime).

the bathhouse is actually based on Dogo Onsen in japan.

My most favorite Ghibli movie is Princess Mononoke!!😊 By the way, Ghibli films, including this film, and some Japanese anime, strongly contain Japan's unique values and ideas. That is, the world view and nature worship ideas and religions that have continued from ancient times to the present. Learning about these is necessary to fully understand those anime. For example, it is often said that there are eight million gods in Japan. It is believed that every being in this world has a soul. To be precise, they are not “Gods" as expressed in English, but are beings called "KAMI". The concept is a little different. Some of them are also called yokai. They are sometimes great gods, terrifying demons, spirits, and fairies.

thank you for the info! So i have some understanding of yokai but im curious about kami. if they arn't "gods" like in english then is it just more like a powerful spiritual being that has some domain of some kind?
@akasa8jp6 ай бұрын
I don't think “God” and “Kami” are completely different. However, they are different concepts, so I still feel a little uncomfortable. I think the English word "God" originally refers to a very special, absolute being in the world, like the gods of Christianity and Islam. Our concept of “Kami” is something closer to us, something that just exists there. For example, nature, animals, tools, the land itself. Sometimes dead people are worshiped a Kami!🌳⛰️☀️🐕🗡️🪞 They are just like nature: sometimes they are good for humans and sometimes they are bad for humans. In fact, all of the unique bathhouse guests in this anime are like that. Indeed, I think it would be more accurate to translate them as spirits. Here, the ideas of animism that have continued since ancient times, Japanese mythology, and the many folk tales passed down throughout Japan. They are intermingled. Do you know Shinto?⛩️ Generally speaking, it has a longer history than Buddhism and is the most central religion in Japan. However, for the Japanese, it is more like a world view than a religion. It has myths, but no scriptures or doctrines. Just culture. Most Japanese people probably don't think of it as a religion. I am Japanese, but I am not an ethnologist, so I apologize if my explanation is incorrect. 😅 For me, it is very hard to explain the traditional Japanese worldview in English to others, especially those from monotheistic cultures. Sorry The shrine’s website has an explanation of the “Kami”. This shrine is the most important and prestigious place for Japanese Shinto. ⛩️Please take a look if you are interested. There is also an explanation on Wikipedia.😉 www.isejingu.or.jp/en/pdf/soul-of-japan.pdf ( www.isejingu.or.jp/en/ )

@@akasa8jp thank you for the information. i knew bits and pieces of that but you gave a more thorough explanation. especially the part about shinto being more a part of the culture than religion as iv heard as much in some older youtube videos but didn't fully get it. thank you!

Continued. Regarding 2 of 3. Mari Natsuki, who played Yubaba/Zeniba, is currently playing the role of Yubaba in the Spirited Away stage play being performed in London. It was so well received that it was extended until late August, and since it is released twice a day, there are several actors playing the same role, and they alternate, but the other actors include Hange from Attack on Titan. Voice actress Park Romi also participates in the role of Yubaba. By the way, there are four people who play the role of Chihiro in the stage play. One of them, Mone Kamishiraishi, was in charge of the voice of Mitsuha, the other main character in "Your Name." I apologize for the long message from Japan.

great immersive reaction. A shared experience. I love the world of this movie .. no simplistic "good" guys and "bad" guys .. just strange mysterious circumstances, everyone is their own personality and character and everything emerges from that. PS: i think No Face was the essence of loneliness .. and felt an empathy for the little girl lost and alone in this world. NB: He could see her on the bridge when she was holding her breath, when none of the other people of the world could. She's the only one who acknowledged his existence when she invited him into the bathhouse.

It's so fantastical that it's hard to believe that it's already 23 years old. Well, I would like to provide you with more information. First, we will introduce the dubbed making footage that was broadcast in Japan just before the movie was released at the time. With English subtitles. Copy the title at the end of the arrow, paste it into the search field, and press enter. (3 of 3 not found.) Please watch these two videos first. → Spirited Away Sound & Music 1of3 → Spirited Away Sound & Music 2of3 Regarding 1 of 3. Around 3:16 Bunta Sugawara is the model for Sakazuki from One Piece. Around 5:00 Ryunosuke Kamiki played the role of Howl's disciple Markl in Howl's Moving Castle, and in 2016 he played the voice of Taki, the main character in "Your Name" which you watched last month. Furthermore, he played the main character Shikishima in Godzilla Minus One, which was released last year. (In the past, he played the role of Sojiro Seta in the live-action version of Rurouni Kenshin.) I'll end this for now since I've exceeded the character limit.

Chihiro's parents are baburu-sedai, they're from the economic boom era of the 80s. That explains their very consumeristic behavior.

The super sad Ghibli movie is Grave of Fireflies. It's great, but too painful to watch twice, seriously. Even more because it's based on a true story

Spoilers The story was written by the brother, but he felt so guilty about his little sister dying that he changed the ended so that he died as well.
