As a molecular biologist, I can tell you that you are not more likely to get an infection if you do or don't sleep with your pets. Bacteria is everywhere all over you and in the air always. Of course your pet should be reasonably clean but same with your clothes, bedding, or anything near your tattoo.

@@Katrinberndt the bacteria found naturally in dogs/ human mouths aren't dangerous, but of course it's a problem if they're licking the toilet bowl for example. Avoid the slobbrey kisses, but if it happens just wash with some antibacterial soap and it's all fine!

Isa ericson as a tattoo artist, please don’t listen to this person. The one and only time I’ve had a client get infected is when he slept with his dog and the dog licked his tattoo. It went fine, he came back the next day and I sorted it out. But take the healing process serious and don’t start cleaning your tattoo with antibacteriel soap during healing period, that’s beyond fucked up. Make sure you get info from your artists, since there’s so many different ways to heal a tattoo and the artists should know how to take care of their own work

I think the biggest problem with kids in a tattoo studio is when they’re very young and the parents can’t/don’t watch and pay attention to them. There are so many things in a tattoo studio that kids shouldn’t be getting into or touching. This isn’t to say that all kids are bad, but it’s better to be safe than sorry and we wouldn’t want someones kids distracting other artists in the studio.

Agreed. It’s good to see videos like this to see the tattooists like this lady that you want to avoid. Sounds rude and snotty. Asking how much for a sleeve is a Normal, reasonable question someone might ask, you can certainly give them a ballpark figure and show some styles that would cost the minimum and some that would cost more. My sons tattoo artist knew how long it would take to do his whole tattoo and said ‘it may go over time a bit but that’s what I would expect it to take me’. No one should be afraid to ask anyone for a price when buying something or employing someone’s services. The way this lady reacts isn’t how most people would react and if you find someone acts haughty, rude or annoyed at you asking things like how much it costs, find someone else as you can be sure that if you had any actual problems with their services, they’d be dealt with in the same rude way. Always Avoid people who are rude, dismissive and arrogant when you ask questions about products or services they offer. It’s a huge red flag that they don’t respect their customers and will be difficult to deal with regarding warranty or any other issue. This goes for any shop of course, not just a tattoo place.

@@bloodsord9 ... That being said, if it is going to be permanently on someone's body, then their opinion definitely matters more. If a chef was cooking a meal for someone and that person would have to eat that meal every day, they definitely have more of a say on the seasoning than the chef does.

It is pretty unprofessional not to tell somebody what something will cost. I have several tattoos from European Tattoo Artists and never didn't they tell me what to expect price wise. I love it when tattoo artists get annoyed with clients who are picky with their tattoos. It’s something that’s being put on your body forever is it really that crazy to make sure it’s to your liking first? As far as asking how much a sleeve is, yeah I agree that’s not cool but if you want a rough estimate for your tattoo if you’ve already discussed the idea with the artist is that also crazy? Like tf

@johnjacob3160
@johnjacob3160 4 жыл бұрын
I can understand why they get annoyed when people are picky. There’s a difference from asking for a couple changes and being picky. Some people are never satisfied with shit and act spoiled, and there’s a type that already has the attitude that will result in them finding something wrong after their tattoo is finished regardless of how many changes are made. When you get a tattoo, you should already be happy with the concept before its even on you. Seeing the personal taste and style the artist puts on it should be exciting because it makes it unique.
@notmyfullname909
@notmyfullname909 4 жыл бұрын
I just assume that generally a sleeve is made up of several tattoos. Thus, you can’t get a price on a ‘sleeve’ because pieces are per tattoo, and amount of time and effort. Also the term sleeve doesn’t cover if it’s color, multiple sessions, etc. And like she said later, sleeves are not usually a single session.

There is technically no legal age here in Utah to get tattooed. Your parent has to be there during the entire process, start to finish, and we collect photo ID/Birth Certificates of both parent and child and if the names don’t match then there has to be a guardianship paper. That keeps it so minors can’t come with someone who is old enough just to get tattooed. Many states have different rules.

So, I have a few notes. At the tattoo shop I work for, we have a policy that clients only bring up to one guest into the work area, anyone else is limited to the waiting area. Also no children are allowed outside of the waiting area at the front of the shop. Also, it's one thing if someone doesn't know what they want, but we actually have a "free reign" option where our artists basically charge their daily rate and people just get whatever the artist wants to tattoo. More people take advantage of that than you would think and they usually walk out with really great work!

Great policies! And just like Linda said in her full-length video (not sure if I kept it in or not) of course there's a free range option and I'd gladly get a piece designed but the artist without my wishes in mind. BUT asking the tattoo artist "what should I get?" is still kinda stupid in my opinion. Either say they get free range or give some kind of guidelines. 😄

Seriously? There are tattoo artists who get pissy when a customer asks them about the price of your service? What? I mean, I get what you're trying to say, it is not a fixed number, but be a little less condescending about it. I'm apparently really lucky with my tattoo artis. I asked about the money for a sleeve, we sat down, talked it through, and she named a price (with some leeway for change of course). She certainly didn't seem aghast about me daring to ask that question. I seriously don't understand how self-important some people are. Why don't you just print a list of things people can't ask you and fix it at the entrance at your shop, because, believe me, most people have no idea that those even exist. And how should they?

Heck I’ve had my artist complain when I asked for a break when he was tattooing my inner and outer elbow because I was about to pass out from the pain. Yes I knew it was going to be painful af but a 5 min breather to get my head straight or prepare again mentally is better than having a client pass out and having to stop for longer or completely for the day

with when the person is asking an artist what they think the tattoo artist should do... its a compliment to the artists knowledge usually for them asking you what you think. especially seeing as often people get several tattoos in one area and then would like to fill the gaps.... as an artist you need to be willing to lend your imagination to your client to make business. If you cant lend your imagination then how do you expect to gain regular clientele and do anything different with your artwork. i really enjoy being asked this because it means that i can get my own work out there and onto some ones skin whom wants the design. There is no limit as to whether a design comes into the shop or is produced in the shop. The only limit is some ones imagination and personal preferences, the size of the needles and the surface area of the clienteles skin. (Texture , depth etc...) maybe materials available but thats around abouts it. It was an interesting video to watch the first time because i have a few tolerances myself, but the main thing to remember is it is up to the tattoo artist to give the after care information because often some advice is tailored to that tattoo artists work ethic and style. ****No one is allowed to use bedpanthen on tattooes anymore, the content of lanilol in the nappy rash cream, burns the skin and makes the ink fade and fall out.... so just a quick not to anyone still using it. Bedpanthen have told tattoo artists to stop because its not for tattoos +hashtag free information***

I agree with you that you should always listen to the artist about aftercare, but unfortunately some people just don't tell you. I have 4 tattoos. One artist casually said "Just put aloe gel on it" and the others told me to just do what I normally do. That's partially on me for not asking them to be more specific, but I wish they wouldn't assume that I already know everything.

Yes I went into a tattoo shop and asked for an owl. I had shown him some ideas and he said straight up that I would not like it that way. He asked me questions to get an idea of style. So he said he will draw something up for me right there and see if I'll like it. Well it was very nice. It was a water color. I am getting another in 2 weeks of a rose. I was talking to my Mom and she suggested I get it a little different. Considering I am sure he is always doing plain roses and probably. So instead I am getting a climbing rose bracelet on my wrist. I am so excited 😍. Next is my dog does sleep in my bed. But I keep her very clean and I my environment very clean. It's not like I let her roll on me when I have a new one. My last tattoo healed really good.

Honestly saying tattoo artists don't care what you get. That's not completely true. The one I had was so good to me. He asked me questions about what things I like and my personality and he matched my tattoo. I am a very bubbly person and the tattoo shows my bright personality with every color he could fit. And he was very informative about the after care. My tip is going into a tattoo shop and when you can speak to the tattoo artist then ask about the after care. If he seems very informative about it then that's a good person to work with.

When I was getting my latest tattoo (a little over a week ago) there was a guy getting something done and as it got later his family came to see him. The shop was super cool about it. When I asked my artist about it he was like "yeah we don't allow kids to hang out in here but we all got family, we can be understanding." It was cool. They were in there about ten minutes, hugged their dad and left. It was fun listening to them comment on the tattoos and ask about the equipment and stuff.

I can understand the how much $$ dilemma, and how that can annoy some professionals. I've heard hair stylist complain of this same thing. How much is so and so, but to be honest I always say can you give me an estimate so that I can make sure I have enough because that's what the client wants to know. I went to a salon once that I would visit quite often and the stylist was I'm going to do this and I was like okay and she continued at the end the session cost more than $250.00 while I had the money to pay I couldn't pay for the tip because the 250 was just on the border line of the $$ i had on me. I returned on the following week and gave a tip. If the stylist was to tell me the whole thing will be around 250 to 300 I would have prepared myself. Bottom line if the person (client) really wants something they will pay anything. I as a client just like the honesty up front an this might cost $$ or $$$$ so that I can prepare. Imagine if I couldn't pay that day. Then what? Wash towels.

In NZ there is no age limit, but parental consent is required for under 18s. Tattoos are very important to the Māori culture, it's called Ta Moko, and it's very common for high school students to get a Ta Moko. The shape, designs, line work/weights, etc all have a really deep cultural significance. It's basically your biography written on your skin, and it's common to get it as a coming of age rite, and then it gets built upon as you age and grow and have more life experiences, but the base of your identity (who your tribe is, where your tribe is located, significant landmarks like mountains/rivers/Marae, your parents/grandparents/siblings) will never change, so that's the base that is put on you, which is why many start at high school. Then your experiences shape the evolution of your Ta Moko, so you can add children if you have them, significant places, big life events, etc. It's beautiful and seeing a Ta Moko change with the wearer is incredibly fascinating. There are many out there who can read a Ta Moko and find out your life story through it without you ever uttering a word, but at the same time they are usually the only people who are capable of designing and tattooing them. It may be this reason that our govt hasn't tried introducing an age limit. One of my old school mates got his Ta Moko at 12, his mum was pregnant and he delivered his younger sibling - it was an emergency situation - so that prompted his parents to discuss with him if he wanted to begin his Ta Moko because of that big life event and of course he said yes. It was a small piece on his arm that has now turned into a full sleeve! And it looks amazing to see all he has accomplished since then through the way his Ta Moko evolved!

One of the reasons why people are afraid to ask questions in a shop. It’s not like people don’t ask stupid questions in other businesses like hairdressers etc. Tattoo artists never hide when the are annoyed by a question which is pretty rude in my opinion. Not everyone knows these things, some people might get their first tattoo and are nervous. No reason to act so entitled, just answer politely and be annoyed later, like other people in customer service do🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
@Katrinberndt

I agree with you! I think it’s really shitty to treat customers poorly and act annoyed. And that is an opinion I’ve always had. Now I don’t necessarily agree that this video is like that if that’s what you mean. I think this video is about entitled customers who treat the tattoo artists badly and in a disrespectful way. It goes both ways you know. So if a customer is respectful and asks questions that’s very different than if a rude customer comes in and demands answers, you know? 😊

i completely agree with the age limit for tattoos, but you can easily get around that where i’m from. i’m not sure if tattoo artists id all their clients (please tell me if they do), but i think if you look old enough or have a friend that’s older to pay/sign for it, you can get around it. again, this is in my crappy state, i’m pretty sure it’s a lot more strict literally anywhere else 😅

I watched this video since I am in the process of getting a tattoo. It's been about 15 years since my first tattoo, so I wanted to be sure I didn't say anything dumb when going in for a consultation or while there. Turns out... I am none of those people. Lol! I'd ask for an estimate--pretty standard, I'd imagine--but otherwise let the artist do their thing. The only pickiness I would have is that my tattoo is a combination of crests from a video game, so it does--in fact--need to be exact without artistic liberties. I highly doubt I have to worry about that, though. Great video!

I get annoyed when I am on fandom facebook groups and people say "what tattoo should I get. I don't know what I want." If you really want a Harry Potter tattoo then by all means, but I personally would be dubious about it, given that you don't know if you are always going to like Harry Potter or any other fandom. If you do get one, however, it should be something you find meaningful, not something others choose for you.

What is up with all that hate about asking the price? After design and size and way before putting down a deposit all of the artists I have gone to have said the price/costs of it on their own. This was a set price, unless ofcourse I want to add color or make it bigger. I once went in a shop and they said they charge per hour and he couldn't tell if it would be 2 hours or 10 hours. I walked out there. You atleast got to be able to tell me if it is 200 euros or 1000 euros that is a big difference. And then if you go back again and again to the same artist I feel like the price gets lower, I am sure there is a formula for calculating it but being friends with the artist definatly helps.
