It's very instructive, this video. I also originated from bacolod and is still fluent in hiligaynon. Sometimes western visayas people would call the language ilonggo. But the correct term for the language is hiligaynon. Ilonggo would refer to the people. I'm not sure but I suppose ilonggo should refer specifically to the people from panay island, or from iloilo. The people in the island of negros are referred to as negrenses. The island of negròs is divided into two , Occidental and oriental. Those in the oriental side would be speaking bisaya ( or cebuano as is commonly known) while those in the Occidental side speak hiligaynon. The hiligaynon language is very "malambing". I lived in negros as a child and when we transferred to Manila I missed hearing the sweetness of the hiligaynon language. The people in luzon are sometimes shocked when ilonggos speak in tagalog because we don't automatically use pô or hô to convey respect. It is because these words are not present in hiligaynon. Hiligaynon does not need these because its intonation already conveys cordiality and affection.

Upon checking, it looks like Karay-a is a language as well. Its just that some speakers are also able to understand Hiligaynon. But, Karay-a is also a Bisayan Language not dialect.

Yes, if you check ethnologue which is the bible of languages of the world, Kiniray-a is a language.

Cebuano also understand hiligaynons like 70 per cent of what they were saying because their root words were similar to us although they added different layers to it. It's still understandable to us.

Nice reaction, love it... I am actually a Bisaya (Bol-anon and Cebuano) but my Bisaya is a Dabawenyo version with a little mix of Mandaya since I grew up in Davao Region

Same. Mom is from southern leyte and speak bol-anon.. They love J a lot. Pajong, maajong, haha Then my dad is from Mindanao in north cotabato that speak Davao Cenuano. I also knew hiligaynon since the south side of Cotabato where dominated by hiligaynons so their radio frequency reach us. That's why I understand some of their words.

PANGASINENSE HERE, I speak Pangasinan. There are 2 languages spoken in Pangsinan, Pangasinan and Ilokano. There are some words that are similar with both languages but I can't understand someone speaking Ilokano fluently lol

I'm from Mindanao, Agusan specifically. We speak Bisaya/Cebuano. But Agusan speaks Surigaonon, Dinagat sounds like the Boholal anun with lots of Js. Then when we transferred to Davao, my vocabulary expanded more! My classmates and workmates speaks different languages. Some of them are even from tribes. Hiligyanon, Ilonggo, Maranao, Tausug, Maguindanao, Manobo, atbp. I really thought Hiligaynon is ilonggo. 😂 My ilonggo classmates did not correct me for that.

Alamat is being alamat!!! It answers what we used to know before... I used to call Philippine languages as dialects but now it's clear that it is a Language and we should be proud!

same with Claire, Im from the south katagalugan (cavite) and ill be speaking tagalog thinking that it was just a regular word but then people start not understanding questioning if that;s even tagalog lol and im like how can I explain a tagalog word to others when I never thought that people dont use this kind of tagalog words hahahha btw I say "Parine/Parini" instead of "Halika dito" even if I have to say "Halika dito" it naturally comes out as "Hal ka dini"
