I'm going to tackle ELDEN RING soon, as someone whos never played a souls game before! The only RPGs I've played are witcher 3, skyrim, and a few other games similar, so I think I'm in for a real struggle ;-;

If you have never played "Souls-like" games before, by far the hardest thing is to understand that death is not a failure. You will die hundreds of times, but it is fine as long you learn something. Explore and try different things.

When you think about it, this used to be the attitude for ALL games. Like, people didn't freak out and call Super Mario Brothers the hardest game of all time because you die a lot learning the levels. Souls games have some of that same mentality, you play a level, die, learn from that, play again.

The lie soo many Souls fans tell everyone is that the games are hard. The games are a buffet of difficulty and only as hard as you make it for yourself. In elden ring something feels too unfair or too hard, you go explore somewhere else and you'll be stronger and more confident when you get back. The secret to the game is to know when to open your map, mark the spot with a skull, and go somewhere else.

Expect to die a few hundred times (maybe even a few hundred times on one boss) but it’s so worth it. This game is beautiful and the story is amazing, one of the few games that made me emotional once I beat it, especially the dlc for it. 10/10 game and I’m definitely going to play it again

That completely depends on How you play the game, If you apply the right tools for each fight you won't die nearly as much. Just don't be afraid to experiment and explore.

Few hundred times in whole game - yea. Few hundred times on one boss is an insane exxageration, that is not needed, and will only make ppl afraid to try soulslike genre. Malenia can be couple hundred if you dont use right tools to kill her, but shes an anomaly, not a rule. Most bosses are between 5-20 deaths, many are doable in two-three tries (assuming you learn the RPG part of the game, mechanics, resists, weapon unique attacks, bosses weaknesses, etc...). And 1/3 of deaths in playthrough will be from mobs and enviroment, not bosses. Mine first playtrough was something like ~400 deaths, with probably half being at the beginning (up to Godrick, because you are weak and dont have many tools to fight and buff), plus Malenia and Final Boss. Rest was stretched through whole game rather evenly with pretty smooth experience. Itemization and amount of tools in game that let you buff yourself, debuff bosses/enemies and fight more efficiently is insane and you must just use then to your advantage. And im not even talking about Mimic. Its insanely well designed and rewarding game (and the second best open world i ever experienced in video game), and not really THAT HARD (except things that i write about). There is no need to demonize this so much. Its hard but in a "good way", and when there is too hard part or too frustrating part for someone, then there are always npc summons and spirits/mimic to bypass the difficulty. Or you can grind and level, etc. PS. I just watched whole reaction. Yea, you can have a dragon arm... if you manage to take it from previous owner ofc. ;)

Words of advice I wish to give thee, wee Tarnished. Thou shall value exploration the most, check every nook and cranny, slither every corner, peek through every crack. If thou'rt facing a tough opponent, take a break or explore even more, thou'rt clearly still too weak and frail so use whatever means necessary to fell thy enemies. Death is naught but a wall to be overcome. If thou'rt wishes to learn about the history of The Lands Between, read item descriptions, listen to dialogue and look at visual cues such as the architecture, it may surprise you to realize that certain buildings may used to have been part of another or heed inspirations from older civilizations. The lore of this land is deeper than great roots. Fare thee well, little Tarnished.

Elden Ring was my first Souls game as well!! Biggest tips I can give you: when you run into a character (NPC), talk to them multiple times to exhaust their dialogue. The first thing they say to you when you interact with them is not usually all they have to say. There are instances where you need to sit at a “site of grace” as well to progress their dialogue. Other than character dialogue (quests, essentially), here are the biggest tips: read the descriptions for the items you get, be patient (if you come across an enemy too challenging, run around exploring for a bit before returning to that enemy), dont forget to have fun, and above all, remember to pick up your “runes” (the money of the game). When you get killed, you’ll drop all of your money in the spot/ area you died and you NEED to pick that money up again BEFORE you die again, otherwise it’s all lost to the wind. Have so much fun playing!!! I’d love to see videos of your journey/ gameplay!!

Also it’s still an open world RPG, so getting better equipment or levels/build usually helps if you’re stuck (making things easier than in other Souls games). Many enemies move in ways made to challenge players of the former games, those are easier if this is your first game. Aaaaaand there are good cheese ways to beat almost every boss lol

It's a *very* challenging game.....but you can make it *very* easy. No matter how difficult anything is, there is some item, some combination of items, some weapon, some summon, some spell, somewhere, that will drastically deflate the difficulty if not trivialize it. Knowledge is the key. I have minimal skills at these types of games, so I was scouring KZbin for what builds did the most damage, how to maximize damage, etc. The difficulty is all dependent on what you know about the challenge you're facing. I've platinumed the game twice. It's a very fun, rewarding experience.

If you can’t lock onto someone they are most likely an NPC and you can talk to them. They have questlines that are sometimes very obscure. Also, particularly for Elden Ring, if you get roundly spanked by an enemy, hop on Torrent and run away. Find dungeons and catacombs and build your stats. No shame in it. There is also no shame in looking stuff up or asking for help.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey! The important thing about Elden Ring is to never give up. It can be brutal, but every failure just makes that victory 1000x better. It taught me to persevere even when the task seems impossible. I've beaten this game 24+ times now, and I still love it to death. I always play games on easy mode, and I employ all the underhanded tactics I can, but beating my first Elden Ring boss without any cheats or broken builds has to be one of my proudest moments. Cannot recommend enough, it's a 10/10.

Some things will really seem hard, but the game is designed in such a way that you can figure out how you want to succeed. There is no right way, but instead several easier ways, several harder ways, and then ultimately the way that works for you. The journey that you take to find your way, is where the magic happens, because when you succeed that is where you get a level of satisfaction beyond other games. That's why Souls games grow in popularity more and more, and why once people try one entry, they go back for all the others. Also beyond the gatekeepers, most of the community is pretty welcoming because we're all trauma bonded and just want others to be able to enjoy it too. This is also the most open ended Souls game, which means that you should not underestimate how many things are optional and that if you're ever struggling against a boss there's probably dozens of hours of content you can go do right now that can give you new items, abilities, and experience for levels.

one big thing about elden ring specifically is that its open world and non linear to a degree. so just like in bethesda games where you can kinda wander off and run into high level enemies, in this game u could end up in an area where enemies will fuck you up lol. so the phrase of path of least resistance can come in handy just to give u a starting path while you wrap your head around the basic mechanics.

Honestly if you are entirely new to the franchise it can feel like its a lot. But ultimately this is by far the most casual friendly game in existance of the entire franchise ever. It is so casual that you do not need to kill a single enemy or boss to even level or get good gear for a good chunk of the start of the game. Legit, just explore, pick up items by running around outside (like Runes or weapons and such) and you will be roughly around level 30-40 in no time for a good early game setup. Granted you will still need to "git gud" as they say. What that mostly means is that you have to understand how you play the game and how the game plays with you. As someone who isnt that skillful and certainly not "gud" I ended up with a build that I loved to use regardless by the end of the DLC. And I ended up being so powerful that I killed 2 of the hardest OPTIONAL bosses with very simple magic setups (And to those who think its the laser beam, nope not even that. Faithbased baby.) If you face a roadblock, try and find a way around it. There almost always is one. Unless of course you are at the end of the game, then it gets somewhat linear. But even then there are so many different ways to face the roadblock. So never shy away from experimentation. Just be sure to have some Larval Tears (which are finite). I will not tell you why these are important but you will see it in due time ^^ --- Once you have beaten the game, also be sure to check out Maxors videos on Elden Ring. They are... a sight to comprehend as a player. xD

Oh this was my first Souls game as well wow I never watched any of these! I just heard it was good and ordered it together with my Xbox when I could finally get my hands on one! Kinda glad in my case that I went in completely blind but also glad for you that these trailers got you hyped! Good luck! And don't let anybody shame you for using magic or summons, the ER streaming community can be weird about that like "YOU MUST SUFFER AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!" I suffered quite enough in my first playthrough as a full Intelligence build mage using ranged spells and summons. Also I'd recommend looking up how the leveling mechanics work because there are things like soft caps and I've seen some players severely under-level and make things so much harder on themselves for fear of becoming "too strong."

Use the tools the game gives you Check your surroundings. Entering a new room? Check corners, check ceiling. Check bloodstains and messages, they could be a warning, hinting at a secret, funny or trollish (which is why checking your surroundings is a good idea) Running away/through is a viable tactic to many encounters Otherwise, explore grab everything you can, use any tool weapon and tactic at your disposal and don't listen to anyone who'll tell you "using x is cheating" or "using y is making the game too easy". and you will have a much easier time than people who rush the game and complain. If you feel a boss is too hard, go exploring and come back stronger. Death will happen. Death is part of the experience. Death is also not as punishing as people make it to be.

20:20 no it’s not a Dragon arm it’s Dragon Communion which is a incantation/spell in the game. If you defeat Stormveil’s boss Godrick you can trade it in for an actual dragon arm.

The difficulty of Souls games is often really exaggerated. As the one trailer said, there are many in-game ways to make things easier if you want, like summoning other players or Spirit Ashes for help, or finding just the right fighting style that feels good for you. The best tip for the game is to READ EVERYTHING. Every item, weapon, armor piece, you need to read their descriptions in the inventory. Also when you go to the status screen it will let you read about what every single stat is and does, and it looks daunting (there are lots of stats!) but it will save you a lot of trouble. Also for the most part, these games reward a careful, methodical play style and exploration; if you try to rush in without being careful you'll get punished. Take it slow and enjoy the ride! :)

I’m sure someone somewhere in the comments may have mentioned it but when you saw the player character summon a spectral dragon head to breath fire, this is a special class of incantation in the game known as “dragon communion” You can hunt and defeat lesser, mortal dragons and consume their hearts to unlock various draconic powers. It’s very cool. I use a dragon communion build myself so yes I’m absolutely soliciting this right now lol

In no other game will you get so many emotions - from disappointment and helplessness and then a feeling of superiority when you can defeat an enemy on whom you spent a lot of time. Eldenring is not an easy game BUT there is many ways to make it a LOT easier. Using a shield, using magic, using elemental weaknesses of enemies, leveling HP early on, overlevel (a guide might help, best early farm is the soldiers outside the beast shrine in caelid) use spirit ashes (tiche can solo most bosses on her own) - so yes i think anyone with dedication and a guide can beat the game. Some frustration and deaths are however unavoidable until you learn the boss mechanics. Believe in yourself you can do it. Eldenring is technicly the easiest game of the souls series, but only if you actually use what it gives you, Also good armor helps a ton

Just passing by, so a im leaving a keyword to playing through most of these 'souls' games (i will check playthrough later). Patience. Basically: don't rush. Don't get discouraged. Stay calm and think. Running through locations and at enemies without thinking is the number 1 reason of death (other than maybe GRAVITY. Trust me, if you dont know yet after first hours, you will soon know).

The red haired woman is Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Widely regarded as one of the hardest bosses in the game. Elden Ring is one of the easier fromsoft games. There are bosses that are wild, especially towards end game, but while there are no difficulty levels in from soft games there are ways to make the game easier, including levelling up, upgrading weapons and skills, summoning spirits of the dead that the player finds, and summoning other real players to help you. Which basically means there are always ways to get through the hardest parts of the game on your chosen terms. I have fought Malenia hundreds of times, summoned to help other players fight her. She's a lot of fun but if you make a mistake she ends you. Once you start Fromsoft games other games dont really appeal as much, which is why there are so many "soulslike" games now. But it also means most people end up going down the rabbit hole of souls games, which is about 10 years worth of games.

If you can play this game you can play any game. when you start just remember dying is part of the process, it doesn't mean your bad, with every death you learn. also red hair is a boss, one of the most difficult bosses to fight, but if you beat her you can wear her armor and look cool af.

But if you read the description of this video you'll see that the only comparable games she's played are Witcher 3 and Skyrim. The souls games are great, but many people would recommend not starting with Elden ring. As perfect as it is, if you intend on playing all the other souls game, starting with an older game like dark souls remastered is something of a magical experience. Starting with elden ring will make the other games feel lacking when it’s really not the case. There’s just something you get starting from the beginning that you just don’t get starting with elden ring. Just something to consider.

Dont listen to the "real players" theyll say if you dont play with no armor, no hit, solo bosses and never even sneeze in the dorection of magic or spirit ashes then you are cheating. If you play, play the way thats fun for you. For me it was a pure magic and dex build with multiple maxed out spirit ashes so i can experiment. Its a.lot of fun if you dont let the stress get to you.

My advice is : don't be like other streamers that rush the main bosses. It's an open world. The optional content is very fun and will make you better, you will breeze through this game.

No game is ever too hard with enough time invested. The question is (if you're not innately good at them) are you willing to put in the literal hours to 'git gud'? Everyone can do it. They just require patience.

should react to the 20 minute gamplay preview too, saw it in the playlist you had on screen edit: you watched some of it, you should check the whole thing out- it will give you a basic rundown on some of the mechanics and how the game works and what to look out for. there aren't really any spoilers... double edit: damn too bad would have loved to see your reaction to it. people love to watch others react to all things elden ring lol (and fromsoft in general)

Should you play? YES God this game is amazing. It is hard but its mostly the learning curve, making sure you spec your weapons right making s good character and whatnot I always tell people who say they wont like Elden Ring that they arent into it, that it’s into them. Anyone can do it.

It's a fantastic game, and would definitely recommend it. It's probably the most approachable of their games of this type, I think. It's a very open world, which can be good for some, while others might need more guard rails to keep them from straying too far, too early. Difficulty wise, it will at times be challenging, but that is partly the appeal. And more than that, essentially, is not how often you die in game, but that you rise, again and again, to challenge whatever obstacles are in your way. Not giving up, or getting discouraged, but embracing failure, and what you can learn from it. And, this is important, use all the mechanics the game provides you to aid you on your journey. That might sound obvious, but there are certain players with very specific ideas of the "right" way to play, when really those are more self-imposed challenges than anything. Which is fine, but not for everybody. My advice? Use what the game gives you, and what works for you. If the creators didn't want players to use those things, it wouldn't be in the game at all. Certainly not after numerous updates. So if you like big weapons to bonk enemies, and heavy armor, you can do that. If you like quicker weapons, to slice and dice, and remain light on your feet to roll and run from danger easier, you can do that. If you want to focus on magic of one kind or another, that's fine too. If you want to use the various spirit summons you can collect, and/or use NPC summons (or summon other players for help) when available, you can do that too. If you aren't interested in PVP (where there seems more a generally agreed on range of level ranges to hit), truthfully, you can max out all your stats eventually and do anything, though with diminishing returns on the stats beyond a certain point (depending on the stat, some soft caps are higher or lower than others), and higher requirements per next level up. When you play, pick a class that looks and feels fun to you, and know that you can respec later on if you want (to a degree, with a somewhat limited item), and aren't tied to the weapons, skills and stats you start with. But depending on your playstyle, it will be more or less enjoyable early game until you figure out what works for you. Best of luck, and do hope you enjoy it when you get around to playing it.

With souls games, it's more about do you enjoy the setting and whether you will get to grips with the mechanics, then is it too hard for you.

If you’re not willing to spend 30 minutes to a few hours trying to defeat one boss then don’t bother wasting your time because that’s gonna happen a lot. Also you will die in such annoying ways and lose tons of runes “money”many times. But as leveling up and getting stronger makes the journey a bit more satisfying

This game is not too hard for anyone, it is just if you are willing to go through failure to learn and come out victorious. If you are not a quitter you will learn fast. And in this game especially is something seems super tough don't be scared to go somewhere else in the mean time.
