The kids now think we are famous after seeing their enclosures on the channel! Thanks for including all our enclosures in the video, we have found something really good out of what has been a strange year for us all and brought the family together. I am just pleased we had the right advice from the start and found such great youtube channels to always make me think about trying to improve what we have already. I have to give a massive thanks to Julian Clare from Wrigglies in Leighton Buzzard for all the sound advice on the animals we have purchased from him! The crestie build is in full swing with a foam background, which is a first for me. Will send pictures over once it is complete. Just waiting to collect a new viv for the corn snake as well which will have a halogen/heat bulb.

This video was such a treat!!! My husband has finally (mostly) warmed up to the idea "letting" me get a snake, but the compromise is that we have to wait until after we buy a house (which will hopefully happen next year). However, I am hoping to start assembling the enclosure soon. My hope is that, if I start slowly working on it between now and next year, by the time we move, the live plants will be grown in and well established by the time I finally bring a snake home! This video certainly served as some lovely inspiration! Thank you so much for taking the time to assemble these images/video and for offering really thoughtful, individualized, and thorough commentary. I have found that, on other channels with videos such as this, the commentary gets kinda rush and repetitive. However, you really took your time to comment on each enclosure. And if you are one of the people who submitted an enclosure, thank you SO MUCH for submitting these images and videos and for being such awesome role models!

He recently confessed that he was forced to watch Anaconda against his will as a kid, and so that was a lightbulb moment for me as to WHY has has been so against me having snakes. I have not seen the movie, but just judging from trailers, it completely unrealistic. But I was telling my husband about rosy boas and sand boas and he was like "Could they constrict around my neck???" And I was like... ,"No... If anything, they'd just slide right off your shoulder." It is a work in progress, but we're getting there!

I spend a lot of time thinking about what is wrong with our hobby - all the things that we could be doing to better the lives of our animals but aren’t. I look at my own enclosures and know that they could be so much bigger, better laid out, and better lit (no matter how confident I am about a lighting setup when I install it, it generally isn’t more than a few months before I know how I could improve it). Then, when I go online and hear about racks, heatmats, and how “SnAkEs HaVe No UsE fOr Uv”, it makes me despair. It is nice, then, to be able to look at images like these and know that we are at least heading in the right direction: long may it continue!

Joseph I have to say thank you for talking to me about IR-A and B. I have also phased in the lights so it simulates dusk and dawn. The changes in behaviour came much quicker than expected, and I was just overcomplicating things.

This is awesome. 😊 I worked within the industry indirectly for 5+ years but I've never housed a reptile myself. But I just recently decided to get a gargoyle gecko, and I'm planning everything out, doing my research, and making sure I start with a good set up before I get my little guy. My favorite way to provide hides and usable surface area increasing the floor space of an enclosure is stacks of staggered cork flats which works great for a number of species. Under the bottom pieces you can throw in some damp moss for humidity.

This was incredible!! It's so exciting to see first time keepers setting the bar so high. There is really no reason at all why there should be this preconception that we can keep reptiles without adequate substrate, enrichment etc. As I have said before, I definitely feel that their unbelievable resilience to survive is their biggest downfall in the pet keeping industry. But anyway, what a standard to start with! (as a fishkeeper I also would love for the fad of "ornamental" or "contemporary" aquariums to phase out as they're just boxes of water with nothing for the fish to interact with). Also, amazing to see families growing up with this kind of thing! It seems more and more of the old fashioned myths are being challenged too, and look what we get out of that when it's done properly. Hopefully we'll leave those people in the dust and keep moving onwards and upwards. Fantastic stuff! I will be there for part two haha

I definitely agree with the fish tank situation in this comment, we have 14 fish tanks, we dump a load of planted substrates in a load of bogwood, as many plants as would be natural and just let the tanks go wild as they would be in nature, and I think that's how they should be, none of this crystal clear water, we let the algae grow, loads of botanicals to stain the water and give the fish the most natural set up possible

Hey Matt. The ackie tank is mine. It's kind of difficult to type this but I will try.. The tank topper was designed by me and made by a metal fabricator. It's more like an aluminum frame with slots / groove in it. 1/4 inch plywood fits in slots and becomes walls. There is a lip around the bottom portion of the frame that keeps it in place on top of the tank. The frame is held together by bolts. It's strong and can come apart. Hope this helps

I can picture the design and I bet it's very light weight. I was thinking of building it all from acrylic or something pvc. The fitment around the top of the aquarium is where I haven't figured out. It's great to see it's been done and yours is an amazing enclosure. Thank you!

I wish more people did bioactive tarantula setups. My pink toes been in bioactive for a year. Just be careful what isopods you use as they will eat the tarantula in molt D: avoid scabbers

I have a junvinile redfoot in a 4ft X 3ft raised garden bed enclosure with a green house for humditity she has a baried hide a rock a branch to scartch herself and another rock for food, other then that a whole lot of room. How can make this more creative for my animal. Tried a bunch of different ideas amd nothing can up hold her trampling (anyone who asked no we dont have a water dish) we found while talking to the vet she would lay in it till she would get sick and refuse to bask we opted for soaks a couple times a week to keep her hydrated and regulated more. Alao humdity is 75-85% so it isnt due to lack of humdity

I have two thoughts: 1) google pictures of their natural environment (iNaturalist is great for this), it might help you brain storm some new ideas, 2) I would add more hides/shelters... it's hard to say way she would spend so much time in her water dish but it might be due to her feeling insecure.

When you say that a wooden enclosure would rot for a brazilian rainbow boa, do you mean just any plain wooden enclosure or a sealed one? I use a water based sealant on my wooden enclosures (silicone too) that I house my ball pythons in and I don't have any rotting issues.

Yeah I mostly mean unsealed word or melamine. Normal plywood/lumber that has been sealed typically holds up perfectly fine and humidity. I find pressboard/melamine tends to swell and crumble overtime in high humidity environments

Excellent post!!! I loved every minute of it! It did, however, take me more than a minute to figure out how to spell Eurydactylodes! Wiki has a nice article on what is called the chameleon gecko. They had the same photo you showed, in fact. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurydactylodes
