Chris was a Navy Seal - among America's most elite warriors. When you qualify as a seal (very hard to do) you earn the right to wear the seal's symbol on your uniform - a gold pin with an eagle carrying a trident, anchor and flintlock pistol. When a seal dies, all of the seals in that part of the country attend the funeral and hammer their trident pin into the coffin lid. That's what was on Chris's coffin.

That's not what I understand the meaning of hammering your pin into a fallen soliders coffin to be. First off, let's see if I got your reason right. You say the pins are fixed on a fallen comrades coffin, right? While that makes some sense, what if more than one member of your squad dies. How do you choose where to put the pin? I heard, and I believe this, that the solider who saves your life is whose coffin you put it on. That's why at that funeral scene earlier in the movie you see the coffin with only one row of about 5-7 pins on it. Chris's coffin was covered with them because he saved so many soldiers lives.😢

Yes,Chris and his friend Chad Littlefield were both killed on a shooting range on February 2nd 2013 by a former marine Eddie Ray Louth,who both men were trying to help. Routh was suffering from PTSD and was also diagnosed with schizophrenia,(although at the trial, forensic psychologist Randall Price suspected that he was faking symptoms) His reason for shooting them was that he was in the back of the truck and both men were ignoring him and wouldn't talk to him. He is currently serving life in prison with no chance of parole

I feel proud to say that I used to teach at the high school from which Chris K. graduated. Chris is certainly an American hero that will never be forgotten. Thank you to Chris and all others that have served to make the world a better place.

Taya Kyle, his wife, was forced out of her home after Chris was murdered. They were promised the house but the company that owned it changed their mind and told her she would have to buy it or start paying rent. She moved. The company was holding Chris's rifle he used in the war as a down payment on the house. Taya bought the gun for $50,000. That company that screwed this family over so many times is gone. Bankrupt. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Taya and the children are doing well. She wrote a book. A memoir. It's called "American Wife: A Memoir of Love, War, Faith, and Renewal". I haven't read it yet but always meant to. I will someday.

spotter Snipers usually work with a spotter in teams of two - they're rarely in the field alone. The role of the spotter is often left out of movies, but it's actually the more important of the two. The spotter is the team leader.

Fun Fact: Most seals averaged 7-10 tridents on their coffin out there by those closest to them usually their teammates and other seals they served with. Chris Kyle had 160 Tridents in his coffin more than any other SEAL a true testament to the amount of lives he impacted.

Those are the seal crest hammered in to the castet. Yes the man had ptsd and jealous. Chris was a nice guy, got to meet him a few times. And his percesion was huge. Culturally America is snared in this romanticization of the American War Machine - y'all are falling for propaganda. Chris Kyle and snipers from Team 3 covered my unit in Sadr City. Those guys helped immensely, but I didnt know Chief Kyle though we were in close proximity. Later, on my way through texas I called his office and he invited me over and signed a copy of his book for me and we had a nice chat at craft. Short but it was nice. He died shortly after. I was very sad for Taya and Chris' children. They are doing well now, so I hear.

Snipers usually have spotters with them so the spotters usually have telescopes or binoculars to spot the target the sniper needs to shoot and says the distance and wind direction if he has the info. Or hes there to protect the sniper or he’s another sniper to replace him when he needs a rest or gets hurt

Chris Kyle and a friend took the 25-year-old veteran, Eddie Routh, to a gun range in an attempt to help him with his PTSD (like was shown in the earlier clip with other vets). However, Routh had also been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and on the way to the shooting range, Kyle texted his friend, "This dude is straight-up nuts." Once at the range, Routh shot and killed both Kyle and his friend with Kyle's own guns. (They had obviously been surprised, as they both had holstered weapons with safeties on when they died.) Several months later (in jail), Routh told a former sheriff's deputy, "I was just riding in the back seat of the truck, and nobody would talk to me. They were just taking me to the range, so I shot them. I feel bad about it, but they wouldn't talk to me. I'm sure they've forgiven me." Routh has been imprisoned for life with no possibility of parole.

“Act of Valor” is a pretty interesting movie if you’re into this stuff. They got real active duty Navy SEALs to star in the roles. It took them a while to complete the movie because they could only film in between their deployments. IMO, the acting is rather subpar ( understandably ), but having real SEALs, real tactics and a pretty good plot line makes up for it.

I absolutely agree with you. The unfortunate thing is that most good deads go unnoticed or aren't considered headline news while acts of evil such as theft, cruelty and violence are front page news. As well as tragedies that are not man made like earthquakes, floods and tornadoes. I graduated High School in 2001 and after 9/11 I joined the Army. My MOS was 96Bravo and stationed at Fort Lost in the Woods. Only did 4 years which is one of my biggest regrets, I wish I had spent more time but was young.

I remember the day Chris died very well. I did not know him i had only read his book and watched his interviews and such. But as an American i loved and appreciated him and every single other service member. But also as a fellow Texan, we all have a special bond and relationship with each other. I am unfortunately a callus and hard man, but this story cuts me deep. Seeing that funeral procession, as proud as it makes me how we sent him home, it destroys me every time i see it. A man that did all he did, to come home and die like that. I know God knows all and is all knowing, but i am a man and it makes me angry. When you're looking down the scope of a gun for hours at a time, it's hard to be aware of your surroundings. You're too busy looking out for othera, so you need someone looking out for you.

I used to drive Over- The- Road (18 wheeler, tractor-trailer, big rig, etc.), I was supposed to deliver a load about a block away in the rubble zone, I would have been buried add crushed. I got the call Sunday morning that my load had been canceled at the last second.I woke up Tuesday morning just before the second plane hit the tower, I thought it was a movie or something, until a local newsmember came on the screen. At the time I had a 2 year old daughter and a 2 month old daughter, and I have never been so happy to not have worked a day in my life. That was the luckiest phone call of my life. 13:54 - Snipers are never alone, so he's there to protect his back. Snipers don't just kill, most of their job is to survey the area, keep watch and take notes. While they do that, they got someone with them to watch over in case the enemy tries to sneak up on them. They also help the snipers with distances, wind speed and point spotting.

Set during the invasion of Iraq it follows the exploits of an American marine reconnaissance battalion. It’s only 7 episodes and some of the antics of the main characters will crack you up. It’s based on the experiences of a Rolling Stone journalist who was embedded with the troops.

The ending broke me. The film went into production while Chris Kyle was still alive and the ending was changed after his death. I vaguely remember seeing video and photos from his funeral. Everything at the end was all real video from his funeral.

In the Marines, you didn't choose to be a sniper, the STA plt chose you. We were selected from the conventional infantry based on our field performance and proficiencies. Most are lCpl or junior Cpl. It's not what you would if you wanted the safe route in combat. 2 men klicks inside the enemy territory, scouting, tracking, and surveilling often outside the envelope of supporting assets.

Close those groupings means aim all your shots on one target closer together so a perfect grouping would be like 3 bullets biting same area as the first bullet hit. So it it it’s one shot then the other 2 shots through the same hole that the first bullet hit looking like one shot. Just means what you are aiming at to make sure your bullets hit the target closer together

I live here in Dallas, Texas really close to where the Kyle's lived in Midlothian, Texas. I was on one of the bridges when the funeral precession passed under. Chris and another friend both got shot and killed at a gun range by a veteran with PTSD they were trying to help.

After the movie came out they began tearing down that building. I suppose it was to keep people from wanting to go up there. "close those groupings" Just means to get your impacts closer to each other. If you look at the steel he's got 3 or 4 bullet impacts in probably a 6" area. More than likely they're shooting at 100y so a 6" group is pretty garbage. You want at most a 1" group per 100y- 1" @ 100, 2" @ 200, 3" @ 300, etc The guy sitting with him is supposed to be his security.
